lets talk about this Credit Card shall we. LONG

Hulagirl, I'll stick to my AMEX Gold Skymiles. In offers alone, I earned a free ticket last year. Joining gave me 10,000 miles, MCI gave me 5,000 then AT&T gave me 5,000 and Earthlink gave me 5,000.

I eat at the Skydine restaurants (many include pizza, Chinesse and carry outs) and earn 10 miles per dollar, AT&T's bill gives me 5 miles per dollar; pharmacy, grocery stores, post office and gas purchases give me double miles per dollar, buying tickets at the Delta website give me at least double miles, sometimes triple depending on the promo, using the kiosks give me 1,000 points and if I do not want to use my awards for tickets they have partners letting you spend them on other things...

It definitely has to be the best rewards card around. I really think Disney made another very poor decision in cutting ties with AMEX in favor of a card that offers nothing compared to AMEX's!

I also have a platinum LLBean Visa that gives me a dollar for each purchase and two dollars for each purchase at llbean or llbean.com. I also get free shipping on each order every time, FedEx. But I am sort of placing it in the backburner in favor of AMEX, for the rewards.

Thanks TreeofLife and NotUrsula:D I think I'll spend some time on the AMEX site this morning!

Hi,
My Husband got his new Disney credit card in the mail today.
I haven't read the info that came with it yet. I have to get out the magnifying glass to read the fine print.
The card is red and white. It has a hidden Mickey in the background. It says Disney on it, along with Charter Cardmember and cardmember since day 1.

I got a huge packet in the mail from them saying they needed more information before they could approve me. I dont want to give any information out, so I guess no Visa for me... oh well... I use the USAir Visa... works well for me....

My card came yesterday with an obscenely high credit limit (enough to pay off my new car). I'm very disappointed with the literature that arrived with it. It still tells you NOTHING about what those Disney Dream Rewards Dollars will get you. Even the website where you register your card tells you nothing at all.

What a great disappointment! No wonderful savings offers except if you book a package deal or cruise. No room discounts, discounted passes or meal vouchers. No list of where you can spend those rewards coupons.

I think I'll use it once, get the pin and then cancel the darn thing. There's no reason to let a relatively useless credit card with a high credit limit sit in a drawer somewhere. I've got better rewards cards to use.

Disney people, if you're reading this (and we all know that Disney does read these boards), you guys made a BIG mistake connecting your name with this card. It's not worth the plastic it's printed on.

You go, girl! After all, the consumer is the one that determines whether their offers stand.

Just let them know what their card was really good for after all. I plan to, and also request that a Disney AMEX be offered instead, with parallels to the rewards all their cards offer.

Not sure what site you went to, but if you go to www.bankone.com/disney, choose "view current offiers" You will see that they offered a discount code for Disney Resort stays CZF. This code saved me an additional $89 MORE than the AXA code.

As for what the Disney Dream Rewards Dollars will get you, the site also has this information. Select "Manage Rewards" from the drop down menu. At that point, you need to click on the "Rewards" button. Basically, each point equals a disney reward dollar. So, you can get reward dollars for WDW, DL, gift cards for Disney Store.

Hope this helps.

As for the other points, I agree, it is a measly 1%, but it's 1% more than what I started with.

I got mine in the mail today. I agree that it isn't worth using for the "reward points", but may be good for disounts and other special promotions as listed a few posts back.

I'll stick to my Skymiles AMEX and use the VISA only where they don't except AMEX.

Liv2CdWorld, thank you for posting those directions. You really need to dig through a lot on that website in order to find what you want to know! I was able to find the room discounts offer. You're right about them being pretty good. Too bad the current offer will be of no use to me.:(

I also discovered that the $50 onboard ship credit for the cruise cannot be combined with any other offer. That means that I cannot get my $50 DC credit AND the Disney VISA credit, too.:( I may have to think long and hard about using the card to pay for the cruise. I'm not seeing an advantage to it.

I'm still not pleased with how vague they are about the Disney Dream Rewards Dollars and what they will actually buy. There is WAY too much use of the words "participating merchants", "selected merchandise" and other legalese designed to give them a way out. I wish they would just come right out with clear definitions of what you can and cannot get for your rewards.

At least ther eare some good offers. I will be seeing AIDA next month with my DD's class. I can use the card to purchase a souvenir at the kiosk there and get a "special gift" with my purchase. Unfortunately, they don't tell you what that "free special edition gift" is.

I thought one of the better benefits from the card was that any Disney Vacation Packages charged to it can be paid for over 6 months interst free. However, the small print reveals that this only applies the packages that include an Ultimate Park Hopper Pass. This makes the benefit useless to those of us who are Annual Passholders. Why would they exclude their best customers from a benefit?

mad4themouse,

I agree with you in the fact that they should come right out and tell you what you get with the card - BEFORE you apply.

I don't have any other card for points of any kind - so the 1% (even though it's measly), works for me. I've been charging everything that I usually use my visa check card for.

On a side note, noticed your from PA - where abouts? I'm in the NE.

Hello All

I thought you all might want to check out this link. Reviews of the top 100 credit cards. The top five are all American Express. I am changing my American Express Delta Sky Miles card Rated # 20 to the American Express Gold Rated # 2 The # 1 card Is the American Express (Blue Cash) which gives you 5% cash back.

It’s no surprise that Disney’s Bank One is not on the list. As I said in my original post its just Disney’s policy of giving their customers less for more. By Appling for their card all you will do reward their Policy of greed.

What we all need is a petition to get our Disney Club Back . We could send it straight to Michael with all of the shredded Disney cards.
C.O.D. of course.

What do you think ?

Card type: American Express
Card category: Reward, Rebate, Travel
Annual fee: $65.00
"Earn points with the Membership Rewards program you can earn one point for virtually every eligible dollar you spend on card purchases. There is no pre-set spending limit, and no costly finance charges, since you pay your bill in full each month. You'll also enjoy 24-hour Customer Service, Return and purchase protection, a year-end summary of charges, and access to their Global Assist Hotline."

Hmmm. Just looking at #5 on that list from your link...I am try to figure out how Disney's 1% back with no annual fee comes out worse than this 5th ranked card that gives you 1% back with a $65 annual fee? ...... Could it be that Disney's card is too new to make the list?

Also, I could be wrong about this, but the last time I looked at the #1 card on the list in order to get the full 5% back, you have to carry a balance (and pay interest--which kind of defeats the purpose of getting a % back, IMHO).

Don't know if Disney is going to work out to a good deal or not. If it doesn't, I will not use it.... I figure that will probably send the loudest message.

Liv2CdWorld,
I grew up in SW PA (suburban Pittsburgh brat here) and now live in SE PA (raising 2 suburban Philly brats). I can root for the "Semi-Sixers" but can't bring myself to cheer for the "Iggles" or Phillies.

I already applied for Universal's MC, among the best credit cards in the market (#13 in your list but after the #1, AMEX, the Chase is second best company).

With front of the line privileges for just being a card holder, I challenge Disney to offer anything beating or even coming close to that!

treeoflife-hi i recently got a universal platinum mastercard from chase and would like to know where you read you get front of line privileges for having it which would be awesome but from what i know the only way to get this is by staying onsite(which we always do for this reason alone-not to mention their hotels are really nice)and the last time we went they scanned our room key at every line....so please let me know if this is really true.thanks

TreeOfLife,

Do let us know about how that FOTL access thing comes out. I find the information available for the Universal Mastercard even more sketchy than what is available for the Disney Card. I had heard about the FOTL access and was all set to sign up for the card when I read that it was a one-time thing (and it wasn't as good as the hotel room key thing). I would sign up for that card in a heartbeat, if it provided for FOTL access as good as what you could get by staying at one of the hotels.....

Here is the way I look at it. The card is not the best thing out there but there is no annual fee so having it doesn't cost you anything. You get a free pin, which for those of us that collect them, that is a good thing. And I plan on using mine for business mostly. Whenever I have to travel or buy something company related, I will use this card and then when they reimburse me, I will gain reward dollars for free. Also, as another poster wrote, they have already offered a code that is as good or better than what the public gets. That alone is worth it to me. I am sure (being optimistic here) that Disney will improve on this as time goes by and they get more feedback from guests.
