Let's Talk About Bengal BBQ

We like it too, but stop getting anything there because of the price for what you get.....even for a snack.

We never try to do a meal from there. We look at it as more of a snack to tide us over when we have an early dinner reservation or for a late night protein boost.

DH and I each get a chicken and veggie and merge them! It's a nice protein snack as gerilyne said. Try that next time, it's pretty filling.

I like Bengal BBQ but I don't eat there a lot -- simply because the prices (to me) seem crazy for the portion sizes, and the portions have actually shrunk over the decades while the prices have increased here and there. I think that the skewers are great for a protein-rich snack, as others have said -- not filling enough to be a meal, but enough to tide one over until a meal.

I remember a DL trip back in the early '90s. I had recently lost a bunch of weight and was on a super-healthy eating kick -- no ice cream, fried chicken, spaghetti, burgers or Dole Whips for me at that point. Disneyland was just beginning to come to the realization that people were starting to want healthier (and tastier) dining options, and so those options were popping up more around the park, including much more fresh produce. On that trip I drank only water (also expensive when bought from a cart at DLR), and ate only fresh fruit and veggies for most of the day. By nighttime I was starving for something with a bit of substance, but I was not going to cave in and eat a burger. I was trying to eat a small amount -- not a full meal -- as well as eat something with a lot of lean-ish protein. The options were still limited, but I found myself at Bengal BBQ with a chicken skewer and some vegetables. I thought the price was outrageous even then -- and that was maybe 1992 -- but the size of the skewer was larger than what it is now. Most of the sauce was on the side, so I didn't feel too guilty about eating it. It was tasty. It hit the spot.

Agreed! Big on taste, small in size, big on price. Oh so flavorful though.

Same here! We stop for the bacon wrapped asparagus, but only for a snack. I couldn't imagine trying to make a meal out of Bengal BBQ....

The portion sizes are miniscule! I am a lightweight when it comes to food, it doesn't take much at all for me to feel full, but I would have to order at least five of these things to feel somewhat satisfied. One by itself is not too expensive, but added together it would be a lot. I see people mention that they eat meals here - how?!

I really do like the food a lot, and typically I feel that Disney food is not such a bad value compared to other theme parks. But in this case I was very disappointed.

You, my friend have hit upon the essential economic question inherent in all of DLR: "value" for price. The exact same criticism could be said for everything, including park tickets- compare Magic Mountain's roller coasters to DL's attractions; you obviously get more for your money at Six Flags. During a trip, I do my best not to eat in the Parks, but then will splurge on a single meal at BB. Yes, it is expensive, but it is really the only place in the Park worth it for me to eat at.

I will make one visit during our annual week at Disneyland, and one visit only.
I see it as an investment in a tradition...and as a snack only, not a meal. And for roughly the same amount of money I will treat myself to three Mickey beignets, and some overpriced marshmallows draped in orange sugar and chocolate(Tigger Tails) at Pooh Corner. All in the name of tradition.
I will set aside small bits of change/cash all year to blow on what may seem like a waste of money. But for me, it's all about the environment and atmosphere of the parks, and rewarding myself for working hard to spend time with my family.
I couldn't sit in my backyard and enjoy a Bengal skewer at $4 a pop, nor would I want to. It just wouldn't be the same.
This is all very subjective. Example: I won't pay for a coke with a meal in the parks. I'll drink water. I can get a coke 365 days a year.

I think I (well and my wife) must be the only person ever who did not like BB at all. We had it about 8 years ago. The 'Polynesian sauce' literally seemed like they took cheap catchup and mixed in a little pineapple juice. The Tiger tails at the time seemed like very unflavored bread sticks. As little as there was, and expensive (relatively) as it was, we could not bring ourselves to eat it.

I imagined that they must have made some major changes in the past few years for all of this love, but now I hear people saying how good it has always been... I am now worried again that I will be disappointed by the Plaza Inn fried chicken.

For me the allure of plaza inn fried chicken is the amount of food more than the quality of it. The chicken itself was just ok for me. It's good but not good enough to crave for me. But if I am really hungry then it's a good meal to get because I will surely be full when I leave. I guess if I am going to pay that much for food than I need it to be enough to fill me up for quite a while or it's not worth it to me.

Thank you for the fair response, Every other report I have heard, you would think it was equal in awesomeness to Dole whip

I get a beef skewer, a vegetable skewer and tiger tails and it's plenty of food for me. Sure it's expensive, but everything at DLR is expensive. :p

It's worth the price to me. One meat a veggie and asparagus is enough for me and I end up feeling I ate relatively healthy. Alladin's Oasis is a great place to find a spot to sit.
