Let's talk about BBB

We're going on a family Disney trip in 4 months and it will be my niece's first time. She's 11 years old, autistic, and absolutely HOOKED on the Disney characters (especially Mickey and Minnie). She's completely non-verbal and cannot speak at all.

We were thinking about doing Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, but it's hit and miss with her. She sometimes tolerates having her hair done, she sometimes loves it, she sometimes bites and screams. So if we booked BBB, would it be a problem if we realized earlier "this isn't happening--she's not in a good mood" and didn't show or cancelled only hours before? Or do you pay in advance??

How understanding do you think they would be?

you pay after it is all said and done because you may or may not want to buy costumes and accessories. You might have to give a CC# to reserve the reservation, but I think that can be cancelled up to 2 hours before your arrival time or something like that.

Look online to see the hairstyles they do at BBB - to me it looks like they scrape and pull the hair back rather tightly. Try this with your niece at home and see if she will tolerate it?

Perhaps you could get her hair back in the tight ponytail before your appointment, and have the stylist do the rest?

You have to cancel 24 hours ahead of time. Maybe if you spoke with the CM when you booked and explained the situation they could make a note of your ADR, but I don't know for sure.

On a seperate note (I am sure this could be different for your neice.) They do pull the hair somewhat tightly, but they are gentle, my kids wern't bothered by it and they went a second time, but they are used to it from buns for dance class.

I'd call and ask a CM, they are very accomodating.

My daughter HATES having her hair done. We went to BBB for the first time two years ago. She sat quietly while they did her hair, but was trying not to cry. She has a "sensitive" scalp and to her the fussing and tight pulled back style were very uncomfortable.

We decided to give it a second try last year. We booked the castle package. The day we were scheduled to go my daughter got very anxious about having her hair done again. When we arrived I told the fairy godmothers/CMs that we would like the makeup, nails and costume but we wouldn't be getting our hair done.

I don't think this happens often because at first they said the hair had to be done - there was no way to take it out of the package price. I said I didn't care and would pay the full price but if my daughter didn't want her hair done it wasn't going to happen.

In the end they did all of the rest of the package (she chose Jasmine :) ) and just brushed her hair out and sprayed it with the glitter spray. They then even gave ua an extra set of hairclips for use at home.

We just got back from WDW yesterday. My three year old did the BBB and there was a special needs child there just getting the costume, makeup and nail painting done. Then they brushed out her hair and sprinkled glitter in it. She was in a wheelchair..I don't know if they paid less for it or not! She was having a blast though!

Here are some pictures of my daughter...it was the highlight of her trip. She really had fun with all the characters at the park treating her like a princess!

You can also go early maybe and watch the other girls get done so maybe she will have something to look forward to.

From my understanding on what I have read in other threads, Main Street Barbershop also does hairstyles, like hair up in a bun, etc.. I think it only accepts walk-ins, so you you can just go if your niece appears willingly.

You can buy a princess dress and crown at home before you go or buy one at one of the shops in the parks.

The threads had pictures of the hairdos I think.

Besides having her hair done, how will your niece do with lots of people around her? BBB is a very busy place. I know from personal experience with close friends who have autistic children some of them do not tolerate crowds well. Just something to consider...
