Lets See Some Motion Blur

These are photos from a skate race I was at. None of them turned out how I wanted, but I realize now my mistakes were not panning with the pace line and probably too long of a shutter speed. But they still turned out kinda cool, IMHO.

not to start any controversy but i just always assumed the no flash stuff was for the actual ride( i thought it was due to it making some of the special effects not so special as well as probably the annoyance of 50 flashes going off in all of the good parts), not the waiting area etc...anyone know the real deal about that?

great shots everyone ,,, something else i need to try...not a lot of traffic in my area though and some how i don't think an amish buggy driving down the road would give the same nice speedy effect ( although it might be a pretty funny photo )

nice effect...could you explain how to do this? i've tried a few times and it just looks like an out of focus mess so obviously i'm doing something wrong. i've tried it in daylight and even then nothing i'd want to use.

it's easier at night when you can set a slow shutter. you need a zoom. take the picture and zoom in or out whilst the shutter is open. try it with bright subjects with dark backgrounds, like neon lights.

It looks like he used a combination of a flash shot and zooming during the non-flash part of the exposure.

I guess it's a question of perspective. The trip was "lived" originally by me. So if I take you through it, are you "living" it or "reliving" it?

a good steady tripod...a long exposure, and very carefully zooming slowly during the exposure. if I hit the end of the zoom before the end of the exposure I'd zoom back the other way...
