As you might already know, Walt Disney's original plan for "Fantasia" was to keep it in theaters indefinitely, but periodically swap old musical/animation segments with new ones. Unfortunately, this plan was scrapped when "Fantasia" bombed spectacularly in it's initial run. Much, much later on, Roy Disney oversaw the creation of "Fantasia 2000", the first official sequel to "Fantasia". Segments were made for a third "Fantasia", but the film never came to fruition, possibly because "Fantasia 2000" did about as well as it's big sister at the B.O.
As an aside, this is why we can't have nice things.
Now, all of the "Fantasia" sequences vary considerably in quality, so give me your "Fantasia" Remix: List your favorite segments in the order you'd like to see them shown.
1) Beethoven's Fifth - Does everything the "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" from the original does, but doesn't make me want to reach for the "skip" button.
2) Dance of the Hours and
3) Carnival of the Animals - Just to remind people up front that, whatever you think of "Fantasia", the film largely consists of dancing animals.
4) Pines of Rome - Because I forget to *breathe* during this segment.
5) The Nutcracker - Again with the dancing animals, flowers, whatnot. Seriously though, the effects here are jaw-dropping.
6) Sorcerer's Apprentice - Because it apparently can't be "Fantasia" without it.
7) Rhapsody in Blue and
8) Destino - Cause Eric Goldberg and Salvador Dali for the waffles.
9) Night on Bald Mountain - But skip the Ave Maria bit in favor of...
10) The Firebird - Why didn't the Brizzis get to direct a feature again?
