Let's Make Sundaes

Not being a chocolate lover, I'm ignorant of these things. Can somebody explain the difference between chocolate sauce and the vaunted "hot fudge"?

Chocolate sauce or syrup is usually thin and watery and it's literally corn syrup mixed with cocoa powder. It's always cold or room temperature and remains liquid.

Hot fudge is thick, warm, and gets kind of chewy as it cools on the ice cream, like fudge. It literally is warm chocolate fudge (fudge being a type of candy). When hot fudge is cold (like out of the refrigerator), it is a solid.

Hot fudge is one of my very favorite things to eat, however, I could go the rest of my life without having chocolate sauce and not miss it at all.

For what it's worth, in my opinion, a banana split counts as a sundae.

In *That* case then gimme a banana split with one scoop of mint chocolate chip, one scoop of chocolate, and one scoop of butter pecan...and then gimme the works. Crushed pineapple, crushed maraschinos, nuts in syrup, hot fudge, gobs of whipped cream, and three cherries perfectly balanced on top. Then provide an attendant to carry me out of the ice cream parlor feet first after I eat it.

Vanilla ice cream, salted caramel and hot fudge sauces, whipped cream, walnuts or pecans. No maraschino cherries, because they are gross!

Growing up in Western New York we would occasionally get take out sundaes that would come in Chinese take out boxes. The topping that I liked best that hasn't been mentioned on here yet was fruit cocktail! I don't remember if they used chocolate or vanilla ice cream or both but it had fruit cocktail then chocolate, whipped cream and a cherry. That is how I make them now. I find that one of the individual fruit cups is the perfect amount. I usually cut up a banana also. Now I want one but don't have any ice cream in the house.

Vanilla ice cream, strawberries, and chocolate syrup (NOT hot fudge).
Must have a banana, and almonds (NOT walnuts).

ETA : I like fancy flavored ice cream when eating it by itself, but in a sundae you need a more neutral base as not to drown out the other flavors.
Whipped cream and sprinkles are fine, but please NO candied cherry. The juice from those things are nasty even if you pull off the cherry itself.
