and this is purely hypothetical .....that she (meaning us) should join the families at Dunns.
Without an actual excursion, just a visit to the falls, what might be the best way to get from the ship to the falls?
Of course, this would never actually happen since we get on the ship THIS SATURDAY and nobody would decide such a thing so late in the game....

but, just suppose...............

$20 per adult admission. Kids $12. I think it is about 45 minutes from Falmouth, though I don't know where the ship docks. Plus transportation

thanks.....how does one get there? which mode of transportation would be best/advisable?

We were just in Falmouth and their version of "uber" drivers are illegal there so make sure you take a taxi that is for sure an authorized taxi. I would never go there without a planned excursion but that's just me and my comfort level. Remember that the ship is docked in a gated area for a reason :)
Have a fun trip!

If you haven't done so already, you may want to check out the ports of call board on cruise critic - lots of great info there. We used Courtney Taylor while we were docked in Jamaica and everything went smoothly. I think we were docked in Ocho Rios though.

To verify, DCL dock in Falmouth and is 45-60 minutes. The port IS now in a "gated community" We were on a DCL excursion. We were in the "bus" and counted on the way out and had to show ID when we returned, we had to show photo id and KTTW cards before the bus was allowed back on the property. I assume that there is approved taxi service that is allowed in and out of the community (port)

Courtney Taylor Tours. Might be your best bet. They customize itinerary for you, google and look them up.

We used Marvyn's Paradise Tours to take us to Dunn's River Falls. He provided just the transportation as well as that the guide told us quite a bit about Jamaica and also took us to a really nice view point. They were always quick to reply, so if they have availability, I am sure you could still arrange a tour with them.

Dunn's is really like a mini park, not just the falls, so I am sure non climbers would have a great time there as well.

There is an authorized taxi stand within the gated area where we waited for a taxi to a beach. The downside was we were a group of 6 but had to wait at least 20 minutes for the van to fill before they would leave the area. It was hot and sticky while waiting in the van. The van was a minivan that had seen better days and was not comfortable at all....they want to maximize capacity in each van so will wait until enough people fill the van to the destination. This was our experience in 2014 in Falmouth.

We used SNL Jamaican Tours a couple years ago. The owner (Lindsay) used to work on the Disney Magic in the late 90's. We had a wonderful time with him and will use him without a doubt if we ever return to Jamaica.
