Someone over on the Disney Tips board asked what folks do to feed their Disney addiction between planning trips. I was surprised that noone mentioned NFFC activities. I've been an NFFC member for over 15 years and we started our local chapter, CastleKeepers, in 1991. We meet regularly at members' houses, see our collections, talk about everything Disney, talk about recent and upcoming trips, look at photos, etc.

So who here is an NFFC member? Do you belong to a local chapter? What kind of activities do you?

If you aren't with a local chapter and you are in the Philly/S. Jersey area, we'd be happy to have you join us.

I belong to the Baltimore Chapter! I can't wait to see all of my NFFC friends at the Convention next month!!

Hi Suzi. Do we know each other? Our chapter used to do joint meetings with you guys at Frank and Bev's house in Delaware? Maybe we've met. I've known Dave and Sandy for years. I used to sell at the toy shows in Tyson's Corner.

I'm so sorry to ask this but what is NFFC?

No apologies needed.

NFFC is the international organization for Disney Enthusiasts. They are based in California but have dozens of chapters all over the US and some other countries. They hold an annual convention each year at Disneyland in July. They also hold a show and sale and mini-convention in January, I believe. Local chapters hold meetings and other special events, maybe have speakers come in or do group trips. All kinds of fun stuff. Its just a great way to get together with fellow Disney lovers.

NFFC actually stands for "National Fantasy Fan Club". True, not a great name, but Disney would never allow our group to call ourselves "Disney Fan Club", or anything else using the name "Disney". According to Disney legend Bill Justice, NFFC actually stands for "National Fat Fannie Club". If Bill said it, it must be true...

The NFFC was actually a spin-off of the now defunct "Mouse Club" and actually began when some members of the Mouse Club thought it would be better to hold the convention during the birthday week of Disneyland. Mouse Club rulers didn't want to do that, so a few folks broke out and started the NFFC. They were worried that they would not attract enough people if they held a convention, but a very wise Disney veteran told them, "If you hold it, they will come..." They did come...

It always amazed me how every year, people from all over the US (and other countries too), would plan vacations, get on planes, and head to Anaheim, never knowing what was going to happen. All they knew is that they had to be there. In the twelve conventions my wife and I attended, there was never a bad one, we always had a great time. The "Disney" friends we made long ago, are still our friends. The "Disney" magic we shared at Conventions was strong enough to draw us back every July, and we were never disappointed. It really was an adventure, year after year!

We've been members of the NFFC since 1986 and attended our first Convention in 89. Never missed one until 2002. Now, sadly, it looks like we will miss the BIG ONE this year. With my latest job, I will have one week of vacation as of July 19, but I need to save that for August because we are moving.

Hey Steve, you forgot to mention the summer cook-outs at Georges with members from 3 or 4 different chapters there! ALWAYS FUN!

Hey Dave! Funny you should mention that. We just had our summer meeting at George's last Sunday, but it was just our chapter this year.

Sorry you won't get to do Disneyland this year. We are actually making our very first visit from August 6-11!!! Can't wait. Won't be there for the actual birthday but hoping the crowds will be slightly smaller a couple of weeks later.
