Let's Get Ready to Crumble!- COMPLETED!

Linda! great to have you here! I enjoyed your food review so much. I thought of you lots whenever I had a cocktail - you inspired me to try so many new Disney drinks!:)

 good to know that I am turning people into cocktail fiends :rotfl:

I loved your Jiko review - I am going to try and get an ADR for our next trip. I have wanted to go for ages but DH doesn't really like spicey food but it looks like he would be able to find something that he would enjoy :thumbsup2

Oh my! Jiko's sounds so good!!! I am trying to figure out where to eat when hubby gets back from Afghanistan. Thanks for the info and pics, but you are making it hard to decide!

Jiko really was special - we had some other amazing meal experiences - but Jiko did come out on top. There are so many great restaurants - it's hard to choose between them!

OHH we loved the taste of africa dips- can you remember what they were-you must go back cause you missed the most amazing macaroni and cheese in the world-it comes with the filet

I can't remember what they were - the one in the middle was plain houmous I think - and therefore not spicy. The red and the green one were very spicy but absolutely delicious. The green one may have had coriander in?

my dd said i need to add :grouphug: and :scared1: oh and :littleangel:

Awww! thank you - and her! A bit :love:right back atcha!

Wow. This has been so informative!!

Thanks Lisa! I worry I don't put enough detail in - I can't always remember the ingredients of each dish - I just want to give an overall impression of the food.

Your Jiko review has me wanting to just book there even though I wont have that dining plan!! I just need a evening there with my hubby. Very very good review!!

Jiko would make a lovely romantic meal (although our teenagers also enjoyed it!) it's so peaceful and calm - compared with the Boma area next door!

 good to know that I am turning people into cocktail fiends :rotfl:

I heartily recommend Jiko - it's just so nice to try different food than you would eat back home. There are some non- spicy dishes - just ask your server for advice. Lucius warned me that the shrimp curry was spicy - I ask him how spicy - just mouth warming, or blow the roof of your mouth off? He told me I would be able to cope with it - and I did.

I want to thank you for turning me into a cocktail maniac! There are so many nice ones at WDW and I think I barely scratched the surface!

Loving the reviews!!! You're making my mum want to go to Jiko's now too :cool1: Now I might have less convincing to do for a signature dining!!

We had almost exactly the same experience at 'Ohana. As a result, we'll never go back. There are just too many Disney restaurants we enjoy to risk having to endure that again. :guilty:

Ugh, sorry you got Rita at Narcoossee's. She is one of the main reasons we won't be back. On the bright side... you didn't get Eduarto at Jiko!! :rotfl2:

It's soooo worth it!

It's a shame because we had a great time in 2008 - you win some, you lose some!

Glad it wasn't just us!

Saturday 21st August

We were back at the Magic Kingdom today and we ended up at our fave counter service place - Columbia Harbor House!

We'd split up and chosen to meet here. Sarah and I arrived first. Sarah had her usual tuna sandwich:

While I decided to try the fish basket:

DSCF3168.jpg

The fish was very nice - a very generous portion and crispy pieces. I think I still preferred the shrimp basket though.

Simon and Kate showed up a bit later - I think they both had chicken nugget meals but I didn't take photos.

Later on, Simon and I both had a coke float from Aloha isle - yummy!

Dinner that evening was at Whispering Canyon Cafe. We caught the boat over to Wilderness Lodge. We waited for a while in the beautiful lobby, just watching the world go by. Pretty soon we were called through to our table:

DSCF3184.jpg

Our server was good fun -although she tended to disappear for long periods - she was dealing with several other large groups.

We had the canyon skillet - lots of food - but the shrimp has been replaced!
We all had lovely milkshakes:

DSCF3187.jpg

The restaurant was full of rowdy fun as usual - but I think we were all a bit tired this evening to enjoy it fully. We got our dessert to go and came back to our villa to chill out a bit. I did enjoy eating my yummy smores cheesecake!

The cost without the DDP would have been $210.00

We paid $34.00 for the tip!

Crumble rating: 6 out of 10 - but mainly because we weren't in the mood!

Coming up: Starring Rolls and 50's Prime Time Cafe!

I'm really enjoying your reviews! Great pics and narrative! We're going to Yak and Yeti for dinner during our upcoming January trip and I'm definitely getting that steak and shrimp dish. I can't wait to go back!

Looking forward to your Starring Rolls review

I hope that cupcakes are involved :thumbsup2

Me too! I don't know when that'll happen - we're tentatively discussing 2013 :sad1: Thanks for reading!

Looking forward to your Starring Rolls review

Hmmm.....there may be some cupcakes involved....:rolleyes1 It's one of those places we said about - 'Why have we only just discovered this place???'

Thank you for such a great review!! So helpful as I'm going to several of those next week and really needed the detailed information.

It's great reading reviews of places you're going to - isn't it? I remember being addicted to food reviews before I went. You can pick up lots of tips and hints by reading them. Also - you can see all the delicious food so you can decide what you like the look of!

Thanks for reading!

Sunday 22nd August

Today we went back to Hollywood Studios. For a little snackette we went to Starring Rolls Cafe - we had never been there before and I wish we had discovered this place earlier! I'm afraid I only have one picture:

DSCF3199.jpg

The chocolate peanut butter cupcake. This was totally yummy and great value at one snack credit. The others got various cookies and drinks - the receipt says a Napoleon and a Strawberry parfait. I had a coffee with my cupcake. I'd love to go back here and try some more of the delicious menu.

The weather turned quite stormy later in the day so we decided to check in early for our ADR at 50's Prime Time Cafe:

DSCF3203.jpg

Big mistake. It was sooooo busy in there, we didn't have anywhere to sit in the bar/lounge. We ended up waiting 40 minutes past our ADR time - not good! But at least it was dry in there - there was an incredible downpour outside.

Luckily, once we were called through from the chaos of the bar, things were very much improved.

We were seated at a nice table with a TV right next to it:

Sabrina was our server and she was such good fun. She made us say hi to people at the nearby tables. There were groups from Ontario and Michigan and the atmosphere was good.

I decided that after such a long wait I deserved a cocktail:

DSCF3209.jpg

A magical star cocktail - very nice and refreshing! We enjoyed watching all the old TV clips as we waited for our main courses.

Simon and Kate both had the fried chicken:

DSCF3212.jpg

Sarah had the tuna pasta:

DSCF3213.jpg

And I had the pot roast:

DSCF3210.jpg

This was very tasty - the mash was smooth and the meat was very tender. I'm not sure whether it was nicer than the Liberty Tree Tavern pot roast but it was still very good.

Simon got into trouble for not eating his veggies - you can't get anything past Sabrina - look! Here comes the little aeroplane:

DSCF3215.jpg

We decided that we just about had room for dessert. Kate and I shared the brownie sundae:

DSCF3216.jpg

Yummy! This was great! But too big for one person. I'm glad we were sharing it.

Simon had the apple cobbler:

DSCF3217.jpg

He really enjoyed this - it was almost worth the mouthful of sweetcorn!

Sarah had the Boston Cream Cupcake:

DSCF3218.jpg

How gorgeous does that look?

We really enjoyed this meal, it had been worth the wait. This restaurant is a whole lot of fun and the food was tasty. I think we'd go again. And by the time we came out - the rain had stopped! Result!

The cost without the DDP would have been $137.29

We paid $40.04 for a Budweiser, my cocktail and the tip.

Crumble Rating: 7 out of 10 (would probably have been more if we hadn't had to wait so long!)

Coming up: Bubba Gumps!

Great reviews, Shari! If your server at Narcoossee's was the same Rita that I had a year ago, I feel your pain! She was an absentee server and that's being polite!

Just wanted to say thank you for taking the time and trouble to write such great reviews!!!! They are brilliant and as a result of your report I've changed some of my dining plans for our trip!! :worship:

Looking forward to Bubba Gump review as that is on our current list for Universal.............

Debsx:hug:

Yes - we didn't feel the love from her! She wasn't awful - she just didn't care - which I think is a bad quality in a server.

Apple cobbler looks soo delicious!! Yummy!!

Yes, Simon really enjoyed it!

Oooh cupcakes and cocktails :cloud9:

Inspired by you Linda!:thumbsup2

Thanks for reading Debs - Bubba Gump coming up!

great reviews! Thank you so much for sharing. I could go for a cupcake right now!

Me too! Thanks so much for reading.

Monday 23rd August

Today we went back to Universal. It was very hot and very busy and we had a lot of technical problems on rides.

So we were glad when it was time for lunch and we headed to somewhere we'd been longing to try for a while - Bubba Gumps!

We were taken through to the restaurant by some very friendly servers. A lot of the restaurant was empty and they were seating everyone in one area, near the bar. The film Forrest Gump was playing - good job we like the film!

We were seated in a booth (yay!) and our server (Mary) soon came to take our order. We decided to try some onion rings and cajun shrimp to share as starters. Here are the onion rings:

DSCF3245.jpg

Fabulous! Even with 4 of us sharing, these onion rings nearly defeated us! I don't have a picture of the cajun shrimp but it was really tasty and a bit spicy.

I carried on the cocktail tradition with a Louisiana Lemonade:

DSCF3244.jpg

This came with a free glass which we collected later - and actually made the journey back to England in one piece!

For main course Sarah had the dumb luck coconut shrimp:

DSCF3247.jpg

While I had Mama's fried shrimp:

DSCF3246.jpg

Oh, my goodness! This was so tasty! And so much shrimp!

Kate had a burger - sorry, no photo.

Simon had a cajun chicken sandwich:

DSCF3248.jpg

All the food was absolutely delicious. It was nice to have a sit down amongst the chaos of the day. Our server was very efficient. She asked us some Forrest Gump trivia questions and I think she surprised that we got them all right. We were too full for dessert!

Before we left Islands of Adventure that evening (after much Harry Potter mayhem!) we stopped at Starbucks in citywalk. It was almost empty, and it was really nice to sit down with a coffee before it was time to go back to OKW.

The total cost of Bubba Gumps was: $122.39

Crumble rating: 7 out of 10

Coming up: EPCOT and celebrating exam results at California Grill!
