I love reading the threads where DISers share what book they have read/are reading. I've found so many good suggestions so I thought I would get another one of these threads rolling.

I just finished Water for Elephants and I really enjoyed it. I found the time period and story subject very interesting. I have out The Glass Castle to begin, hopefully tonight. I also have the book Terror by Dan Simmons (I think that is the author's name-It is in the other room and I am too lazy to get up) on stand by. I am hoping to get the new James Patterson "Step on a Crack" for my birthday in a few days.

So what are you reading?
Karen

Not too long ago I did a poll asking which book I should read next, and the overwhelming winner was Sense and Sensability. So I read it (and enjoyed it), now I am half way through the second place winner on my poll - the Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy. I love Clancy books, and this one is a classic.
When I finish this one I will probably go on to the third place winner - 1st to Die by Patterson.

Devil Wears Prada, book is a total riot.

Anyone want to suggest a good vampire story? I love the BtVS/Angel school but game to try anything

I am finally reading Wicked. So far, it is not what I thought it would be.

Right now, I'm reading Skinny Dip by Carl Hiassan. V. fun and v. light -- more of a summer book, if you ask me. Don't know why my book club picked it for this time of year!

Up next is The Glass Castle by J. Walls and after that is Beautiful Lies by Lisa Unger. In between, I'd like to squeeze in reading the new Oprah book club pick (Sidney Poitier's story).

I'm not reading anything new and hot. I'm reading "Queen bee's and wannabes" .. a book on girl's cliques and behaviors and how to help your kid. Also, I plan to burn thru "Terrebithia" tonight before the movie comes out. I bought it for my kid, but then other kids mentioned that "Leslie" dies. I didnt know. Now, I want to know if the movie will be ok... and if the book is ok before I hand it over! :) Sensitive weepers in this house. Im still recovering from Black Beauty... 20 years ago.

Teacups, you should probably white out the spoiler for Terabithia. I'm trying to get DD to read the book before we go see the movie, but I don't think she's interested. It was a good book, though!

Anyway, I just started The Kite Runner today. I'm already a quarter of the way through it and can't put it down!

If you liked devil wears prada. You have to read Chore ***** by Heather Howard. Very funny and light reading.

:rotfl2: I got starred! Guess I cant type the whole title. But if you google Heather you will find the book.

I have just started reading Pilates Wife. It is about the wife of Pontious Pilate and the Roman Empire. It's actually really good.

After reading the "Favorite Stephen King novel" thread, I went and picked up The Stand.

So far it's really, really good! Why have I never read it before? :confused3

Of course, Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat if you haven't read them yet. LOVE those books.

Also, the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris are lighthearted and fun vampire books.

I am reading The Last Wife of Henry VIII by Carolly Erickson about Catherine Parr which I'm really enjoying. I seem to be on a Henry VIII theme lately since I just read two of Phillippa Gregory's since Christmas--The Constant Princess (Katherine of Aragon) and The Boleyn Inheritance which was about Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard.

I recently finished You Suck by Christopher Moore which I loved. Oh, and DUH--there's another vampire book for you, Courtesan Satine! :rotfl2:

Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders by Neil Gaiman. I don't know what I want to read next, though. Leaning toward The Poe Shadow by Matthew Pearl.

I'll have to try Anne Rice and is Sookie Stackhouse in the same spirit as Buffy?

I just read "The Other Boylen Girl" about the sister of Anne Boylen-King Henry the 8th's wife. It's fiction and I was pleasantly suprised by how much I liked it.

I just finished The Last Wife of Henry VIII before the Neil Gaiman that I'm now reading. And how did you like The Constant Princess? I also have The Boleyn Inheritance on my shelf - I'm obsessed with the wives of Henry VIII - but I've had enough beheadings for a while :teeth:

I just started reading The Perfect Storm. I've had a copy hanging around the house here for quite a while. I really didn't think I'd care for it but so far it's been fascinating.

:coffee: I just finished reading The Serpents Trail by Sue Henry and ready to start The Tooth of Time by same author. These are mysterys and are pretty good.

Shh...I've never seen Buffy. :rotfl2: Shocking, I know.

The Sookie Stackhouse books are romantic comedy kind of books. They're hard to explain but well written and funny and very easy to read. There's a whole series of them. You can check them out at Amazon--they're actually officially referred to as "The Southern Vampire" series.

And if you haven't read Anne Rice's earlier books, you're in for a treat. I always recommend reading The Vampire Lestat first even though it's second in the series. I also recommend The Witching Hour (the story of a family of witches over several centuries) and The Mummy.

Enjoy! Now I need to go find one of those and reread them!

I liked The Constant Princess but for some reason I had a harder time settling down to it than I did The Boleyn Inheritance. I'm fascinated by the Tudors--I'm signing up for Showtime because they have a new miniseries coming out based on Henry's early years.

Plus, we're off to England again this summer and I love visiting places I've read about. My BIL and SIL live just a few minutes away from Hampton Court--I had a blast there on our last visit. It just makes the history come alive if I've been reading up on it before I leave.

Love Neil Gaiman, too!
