Let this be on the record : I did NOT instigate this trip... Complete :)

Marina, you already are on the regular TR board...

Great installment. I'm with Grumpy, give me free beer anytime! :drinking1

I love your update! I didn't know that about the safes at the CSR (and we've stayed there nine times--so thanks for teaching me something I didn't know). I love that Grump was passed out on her chair after two beers. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I really think that my DH would LOVE Discovery Cove. How much is it normally?

Your writing style has me hooked, so I'm in. :)

This might be kind of a silly question, but is the water very cold at Discovery Cove? I've always wanted to go there, but I'm afraid I'll be freezing the whole day.

DC sounds great! I'd love to go there, but our next trip is for December, I think it'd be toooooooo cold!

Grumpy cracks me up.

:rotfl:
Dawn

I can't wait to hear more! I have read some of your earlier TRs and loved them so you can be sure I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment.

I am planning to go to DC in February. I hope we don't freeze to death! I have read some reviews on tripadvisor from people who went during that time period last year and they didn't think it was too bad. I hear the put heaters out and the water temperature remains constant no matter what the outside temp is. I planning on wearing a wetsuit so hopefully that will help with the cold.

To get this moved to the regular TR board send Ohmari a PM and she will move it for you.

It depends on the dates. This summer we paid $289/person for the package that includes the dolphin swim. This time, it was $249 and $149 for what they call the "resort" package, which is everything except for the dolphin swim. There were some dates that were way more expensive.

This might be kind of a silly question, but is the water very cold at Discovery Cove? I've always wanted to go there, but I'm afraid I'll be freezing the whole day.

The water in the lazy river is warm, but the Coral Reef, the stingray pool and the pool where you swim with the dolphins is colder. The Coral Reef water is reallyyyy really cold.

For those of you going in February or December, I think a lot depends on the outside temperatures too. We have had some awesome weather in February once (when we were in Orlando, but not Disney). The good thing is they allow you to move the date once for free, so if you plan on going in February and it's freezing outside, you can always call them & move your reservation for a summer trip.

The Coral Reef sounds great, too bad you couldn't stay there for too long.. But hey! With a name like Marina isn't quite a surprise you are a fish magnet... in fact it sounds like a superpower

I would have reacted just the same way than Grumpy did with the unlimited beer but for the snacks.... a few hours in there and I would need to be rolled out of the place :rotfl:

/
Unlimited beer sounds nice, but I'd need to pass on the Bud Lite LOL. Glad your mom had fun with it, though!

Looking forward to more of the story!

Anhauser Busch used to own Sea World, Discover Cove and Busch Gardens. They actually sold the parks to owners from England that own a Brewery. What kind of beer were you drinking?

OMG, you guys flew half way across the U.S. and the backtracked back to Orlando.:rotfl: Airlines are getting nuts.

Have you moved. You could of stayed down the road at the Ritz-Carlton. My dh has a convention there every year and I always bid on the price to stay there and we get last minute rates for $79. My dh gets up to $250 a nite for his business convention, and when the convention is over we go over to WDW and spend the money that is left over.:rotfl:

I'll be there in April, let me know your dates.

Grumpy's a Bud-Light woman !
If you think flying to Dallas to go to Orlando is nuts, check this out. Trying to use our miles for this next trip and this is what they want us to do : Paris to Boston, Boston to Dallas, Dallas to Miami.

Pretty good idea, what you're doing with the convention $$ !!! Now that's my kind of "savings" ! If we go, we'll be there April 11-16th. Very short WDW trip, don't think my dad can take more than five days in Mickeyland. Although, since we're driving, we may be able to stay an extra day if we feel like it.

Now I'm off to read and figure why on Earth you'd wanna swim in Bay Lake :)

Jesse waited patiently as Grumpy snoozed her beer off in the sun. Around 2.30 they left for the Sandcaste Cabana, where they'd get to know all about their dolphin swim.

When we did it last summer, we were first given a little information on how the dolphin swim would go, then watched a video. Then everyone had to sign some kind of waiver, the group was divided into little groups and then we'd all gone to the Dolphin Cove to meet our trainer and our dolphin.

They'd left me at 2.20 and I waited for them to arrive. And waited. And waited. It was taking FOREVER, and because there were no more beach chairs in the sun, I was literally baking. Ready for Thanksgiving, just bring out the stuffing and the gravy. Three of the trainers were playing with a couple of the dolphins and at least it kept me busy while I waited.

IMG_0115.jpg

After a little while I discovered that the Dolphin Cove is actually divided into several pools - and they could be anywhere. So I started going up & down the "beach" to check which pool they were in. No one anywhere. Finally I saw them - but by that time you could have cooked an egg on my head.
The girls met their dolphin, Jenny, and did the usual tricks, making her "speak", getting her to wave hello...

IMG_0135.jpg

I tried staying to take pictures but couldn't last but a couple minutes 'til I had to rush to the shower rooms and get under the cold water.

Came back and decided to give it another try. When I got there, Jesse and Grumpy were swimming towards the dolphin - great, I hadn't missed their swim!!

IMG_0129.jpg

Jesse went first.

IMG_0140.jpg

When it was Grumpy's turn, she let go of the dolphin half way, and, she later admitted, had herself a little cup'o'dolphinwater as well. But she loved it :)

IMG_0142.jpg

Is it me or is that dolphin cracking up and making fun of my poor Grumpy????

When their swim was over, we met up, and went to get a drink since, as lovely Grumpy put it, I was looking like a big red ball.
Then, I wanted to try the coral reef again. Jesse came with me but Grumpy was tired by then and she just wanted to lay down on the beach and try to tan.

So we go back in the freezing water, there were a lot less people as it was nearly 4 already. I tried to put on the tuba but couldn't figure how to breathe thru it so Jesse said nevermind, just wear the mask and come up for air every once in a while. I tried doing just that but somehow the mask filled up with water in a couple seconds, I couldn't see anything, panicked because I wouldn't see the evil fish if they came my way, and pretty much ran out of the pool again. Well, I did see the corals for a few seconds and it WAS very pretty. Didn't last long though. I'm hopeless.
Jesse can breathe with a tuba so I let her enjoy it a bit and waited for her in the lazy river. We went around it twice more, then collected our Grumpy and decided to call it a day. Not that we had a choice anyway, it was 5.15 and the place would be closing in 15mns.
We had to wait in line for the showers/changing rooms, which were not really clean by then. Lots of muddy sand on the floor so you couldn't put your shoes back on without getting sand in them. Yuck!!

When we were all reatively cleaned and somewhat dressed, we headed for the exit. Jesse thought they should have Magic Hours there so she could stay an extra three hours with her dolphin. I waited for them as they paid for their photos and Jesse went to buy a couple things in the store.
That reminded me of last summer, where we'd gone to that store searching for after-sun lotion as we we'd both sunburned like crazy, and the lady had asked us "Do you want the one with the aloe, or the one with the lidocaine?". Jesse & I had replied in unison : "THE ONE WITH THE DRUGS!".

We were soon in a cab on our way back to Coronado. Got off at El Centro so we could get our stuff back from the safe, and learn our room number. Then Jesse surprised me by going to Bell Services all by herself, asking if we could get someone to give us and our luggage a ride to our room. She usually sends me over whenever we need to ask for something, so that's why I was surprised. Anyway, a few minutes later we were on one of those little shuttles on our way to the Ranchos.

Our room was really nice, in a corner, and right above the pool. I think we may have been upgraded to water view because there definitely was an obstructed view. It was about 8pm by then and Grumpy was tired, but Jessi and I wanted to go to Downtown Disney. My mom said she didn't mind staying alone so after we showered (again!) and got dressed in clean, sandless clothes, Jesse and I were off.

When we got to the Marketplace we went through the Christmas shop and looked at all the ornaments. In the back of the store they have a section that is all Nightmare Before Christmas stuff. I wanted everything.

Photo0202.jpg

We looked at the ornaments and Jesse took pics of everything. The stuffed character stockings. E-ve-ry-thing. I asked her why she was doing that, and when would she care to look at this again ? She said she looks at the pics at least once a week when she's home. So I let her take pics!

Photo0204.jpg

We didn't buy anything though - it's very pretty, but highly breakable and definitely not cheap in any way.

Our next stop was Earl of Sandwich. I'd never been there before, but Jesse lovvves sandwiches and I figured she'd like that place :) She got the veggie sandwich and I got the "Best BLT". We were using our first DDP credits and Jesse was a bit confused as to what she could or could not get, so I told her she could get either a side or a dessert. She got the brownie sandwich and I got a cute sprinkley cupcake. It was about 9pm and we had no problem getting a table outside. Usually the place is packed and the line's out the door.
OMG those sandwiches were heavenly. We both agreed we needed to come back at some point and bring Grumpy! We kept our desserts for later though, as we were full with the sandwiches.

After dinner Jesse wanted to go to the Toy Store. Okay. I was getting tired though and she got on my nerves a bit by taking pics of every darn thing, and walking two inches an hour, so I told her I'd wait for her outside by the fountain. While I was there, some lady who must have been even more drunk that Grumpy was sitting in the middle of the fountain jets and getting soaked over and over again. It was entertaining to watch :)

Next on the agenda : Walgreens. We got a cab and he took us to the nearest one, for about $10. He asked how long we'd be there and we said at least half an hour. At no time did we ask him to wait for us while we were in the store.
The Halloween makeup was right in front of the store. I'd just wanted some white foundation but all they had left were kits. So we got a couple of those, plus some silver and black hairsprays. Then Jesse wanted to get snacks and candy for Alex and I had a few other things to pick up myself.

$75 later I was done and told Jesse I'd wait for her outside. She'd loaded up her cart with candy, beef jerky and chips - Alex's favorite American food. Outside, I started chatting with one of the cashiers/stockers who was on her break. Since I'd worked in a supermarket we compared our lovely jobs. We finally agreed that they were just as crappy on one side of the Atlantic as the other :)
I'd noticed when I got outside that there was a cab waiting, but I figured it wasn't for us so I took my time chatting with the girl, and then Jesse joined in. The cab driver got out of the car and started looking at us. He said "Are you ready?"
Jesse recognized the driver and she said she hadn't realized he had been waiting for us - I added that we had not asked him to wait. He just said "okay".
We got in the cab and I saw the meter was showing $21. Holy crap, he had waited for us - with the meter on. I didn't know what to say to him. We asked him to driver us back to DTD, as we wanted to catch the Coronado bus there. Usually at CSR cabs drop you at the main building and then you have to walk all the way back to your room, and we had eight heavy Walgreens bags to carry.

So he puts the meter back to zero and drives us back to DTD. I was so relieved when he accepted the $10 I gave him, I had expected a confrontation and him demanding the "waiting money" - which we didn't have.
Big sigh of relief.

However he did drop us in the middle of nowhere, somewhere between the Marketplace and Pleasure Island. I spotted Planet Hollywood and remembered the bus stops are close to it so we walked towards there, which was a bit far and those bags were mighty heavy. We were both exhausted when we got to the bus stop and all we wanted was a bed.

I think we waited about 15mns for the Coronado bus. It was nearly 1am and there were only 3 other persons in it, sitting all the way in the back. The driver asked us which stop everyone was going to. We said four, but the 3 others didn't know what he was talking about, and got a bit nasty with the driver. "We're going to Coronado Springs!! CO-RO-NA-DO SPRINGS! We're on a CORONADO SPRINGS bus". He looked at us, rolled his eyes, and shrugged. I told him just drop em off at El Centro and let them walk all the way back to their room :)

Jesse spotted a Tron poster on the bus. She kept looking at it, saying how cool it was. She asked me how to say "affiche" in English - she got me there, I had no idea. Maybe just "poster"??? Why did she want to know that word anyway. We get inside Coronado, the driver turned the lights back on, and she gets up and goes to talk to him. I couldn't hear what she said but the driver laughed, and turned the lights back off. Then Jessi goes to that Tron poster and starts trying to pull it out! I was like, what the heck do you think you're doing??? Since the driver wasn't doing anything to stop her I figured that's what she'd gone to ask him so I tried to help her but the thing wouldn't budge. We got to stop 4 and the driver told her, maybe next time and that if they gave him any more of those he'd keep one for her.

So what she did was ask him if she could take the poster, and he said "Sure -as long as I can't see you!" and turned the lights back off so he wouldnt "see" her doing it :) All the while driving as slowly as he could.

What can I say, Jesse loves Tron!!! I wasn't mad at her since she had asked the driver first. If she'd just gone up and tried to steal it I would have been mortified though.

Grumpy was asleep when we got back but woke up to hear about our "adventures". By the time we'd put away the stuff we'd bought it was once again almost 2am and we needed to be get up early the next day.
We had a date with Donald, plus a not so scary party. What we didn't know, was that the party would be a bit scarier once we got there.

:scared1:

Great update! The Dolphin swim looks great an dwe are going to have seriously look into that. Sorry you were sweltering in the heat while they were swimming.

I love the bus story with the poster. :cool2:

I still haven't gotten to Earl of Sandwich...one of these days.

Love your TR's so I am definitely on board for this. Let's see - I am all caught up and I think you guys have had about 6 hours of sleep in 2 days. Discovery cove looks like a blast. I think I may need to try it! Can't wait to see whether you got up early or not!

And what's this about a scarier than usual halloween party??????

Love it!! You guys are too funny and making me tired just from reading it!

Just came across this report. Did youdo one on your August trip? I remember you planning for it, but I don't remember a report on it. :confused3 This one sounds like you are off to a good start - if you don't all drop from exhaustion.

No I never did an August TR. We just didn't do much, and didn't have such a good time. Honestly we were in Orlando for nearly two weeks this summer, but we had WAY more fun in just one week in October.

Guess what ? We did NOT wake up at 6 that morning! There was just nooo way. Grumpy was up first and woke me up, and we decided to let Jesse sleep a bit more. She was making her weird early morning noises again and we made fun of her, of course.

Can you believe the room was already a mess ? We'd only been there one night but with 3 adults, 3 big duffle bags, 3 carry ons, an array of purses and backpacks, plus the loot we'd brought back from Discovery Cove and Walgreens, we could barely see the carpet. And it was only going to get worse, as today we were going to stop by the Business Center to pick up 3 packages : one with Jesse and Grumpy's Halloween costumes, one from GNC for Jesse (she's a protein junkie) and one from Drugstore.com with all my cant-live-without American products. And of course were going to bring back a zillion tons of candy from the party !!
I truly wish I'd thought of taking photos of what we did to that poor room in just eight nights. When we'd walk to the elevator we could see other guests' rooms and none of them looked like ours.

We managed to be at the bus stop around 8.45am. We knew we'd miss the opening ceremony but none of us cared. We had a 9.35am ADR at Tusker House, and wanted to be able to grab some FPs for the Safari before that, but were in no rush. Since we'd done Discovery Cove early, we had an extra day to go back to AK if we wished to.

It was a good thing we were in no rush because we had to wait a good 20mns for the AK bus. Never happened to us before at CSR! Once we made it to AK, I took a pic in front of the Tree of Life real quick, I got Jesse and Grumpy's keys and hightailed it to the Safaris to get our FPs.

DSC04472.jpg

We met back at Tusker House, they had already checked in. They were out of pagers and the guy was just yelling guests' names instead.
I think we waited about half an hour to be seated. The place was PACKED. I think because the food is better, and the situation is more convenient, that character meal has gotten more popular than Chef Mickey's now.

Well, finally they called our name. We got our pic taken with Donald, and the photographer tried to get me to stand in front but that was not going to happen.

Jesse and her beloved Donald, taken by moi.

The breakfast was really fun. We saw Daisy, Mickey, and Goofy. Donald doesn't go around the restaurant like he used to. Mean Donny!

Grumpy & I actually did the parade with Mickey :rotfl:they were giving out maracas, we grabbed some and joined in ! Hey, it's Disney, we're here to be even sillier than usual.

Our tummies were full and we discussed our plans. We knew we wouldn't stay in AK very long, we had a party to get ready for. We had our FPs for the safari, and wanted to see Festival of the Lion King. There was one show at noon then it'd be 1.30pm. So we decided to go to see Simba now, and do the Safari after.

We had a little time to kill before the show (but not enough time to ride the safari) so we went to check out the gift shop that's accross the street from Tusker House. Cool stuff in there.

Grumpy bought herself some sort of animal print coverup, I got me a cute AK Vinylmation for my collection, and Jesse got herself a few things but I can't remember what. We opted to have it sent to the front of the park and pick it up on our way out.

Next up was Festival of the Lion King. I knew Jesse would love it, it's her favorite Disney movie. We were in the hog section again (I'm starting to take this personally!!). The performers were great and we really enjoyed the show.

Now, Grumpy & I have seen FOTL at least twice before. Well, the guy starts playing with his fire batons or whatever, and Grumpy goes "Wow, they didn't have fire the last time!!". Err.... yeah, they did. How can you miss that part???

(Continued in next post!!)

After Timon ordered us to "get out of there!", we found ourselves in Camp Mickey & Minnie. Jesse had to have her pic taken with Chip, of course!

IMG_0359.jpg
IMG_0362.jpg

Then we walked back to Africa to use our safari FPs.

PIC_0042.jpg

Not that we need them. There was no queue to speak of ! We literally walked from the FP entrance to the truck.

Because it was nearly 1pm, most of the animals were sleeping and we didn't see many, but we did get to see a baby giraffe nursing on his mother (say awwwwwwwwww) and a baby elephant (no, not Little Red).

IMG_0390.jpg

IMG_0398.jpg

The hippos and the lion were sleeping (does that lion ever do anything BUT sleep??).

Hey look, an awake one!!!

IMG_0375.jpg

After the safaris I *had* to buy something at the bakery. I wanted one of those Zebra cupcakes. I don't know why I keep buying cupcakes in Disney - or anywhere, actually. I don't like frosting and Disney's especially are covered in sickly sweet icing. I know it. I know I don't like it. I still gotta buy it.

PIC_0103.jpg

They didn't have any to-go boxes and we had to use paper bags and make sure to keep them veryyyy still. Had to walk back to the entrance to pick up our shopping bag, then to the bus stop, and wait for our bus. We waited about 15mns. Grumpy was mad at me for buying things that would be ruined by the time we got back, but it's not like I knew they didn't have any boxes. Plus, it was just two snack credits... no biggie.
Once we got to Coronado, I got off the bus at Stop #4, and Jesse & Grumpy continued over to El Centro where they went to pick up our mail. The treats looked nothing like they had once looked at AK, but I put them in the fridge anyway and hoped for the best.
While at El Centro, Jesse also stopped by Pepper Market for a veggie burger to go, and Grumpy got herself a kids meal with a PB&J at Rix.
I was a bit peeved that it had not occured to either of them to call and ask if I wanted anything, especially since they had called me to say they were having the two biggest boxes delivered and that someone would bring them up to the room soon.

The boxes were delivered before they came back. Big boxes ! I waited for Jesse to be back to open them.

"Thanks for asking if I wanted something, by the way. That's really polite."

Told ya I was peeved.

Jesse said she'd told Grumpy to do that but that Grumpy said I had my "stupid cakes" to eat. I was upset, not because I had wanted anything, but simply because whenever I go to a shop, I always ask them if I can pick up something for them. But I let it go because it was not worth spoiling the mood, besides we had a party to go to !!

I had ordered a "Pirate Ghoul" costume for Jesse, which included a mask, a hook, and some type of long sleeved ripped top, and Grumpy had picked a witch costume and a wacky wig. She had wanted that wig badly!!

Not too long before leaving I had decided I wanted to be a "zombie beauty queen". I ordered a lacy dress online, paid to have it delivered next day,and it never showed up. I was sooo disappointed but then I had the idea of basically ripping up a dress I had bought the previous summer. But it had little pink and purple embroidered flowers that didn't exactly fit the themed.
I got the inspiration the night before we left to just turn the dress inside out, rip up the lining, and I intended to get it dirty (as if I'd just crawled out of my grave) before the party. Instead, we used some silver hairspray we'd gotten at Walgreens the night before. I had a sash that said "queen" on it and Jesse wrote DEAD over the "QUEEN" with black nail polish. Curled my hair JonBenét-style, sprayed silver and black hairspray on it, and topped the whole thing with a tiara.

We'd bought makeup kits at Walgreens and we mostly used the white paste for foundation (I guess I'm not as pasty white as I thought because you COULD tell the difference!). Jesse used some too because she was worried they wouldn't let her keep her mask inside MK. Grumpy just put her costume and her wig, she said the wig was very heavy and hot and she probably wouldn't keep it for the whole night. She had me paint her nails black too.

Besides the white foundation I also put a ton of black eyeshadow around my eyes, and just before we left I discovered a little tube of "scab" makeup. So I decided to put it on my throat as if someone had just sliced it.
Honestly, we looked FREAKY.

When we got on the bus the driver laughed and said "Wow, we got some great costumes over here!!". The kids were looking a bit worried as Jesse walked past them.

We got to the turnstiles and there was a little boy in his dad's arms, looking a bit scared. He looked at me and started whimpering. Then he looked at Jesse and screamed in terror. I was a little sorry but honestly, it was hilarious. Even the dad was laughing.
