I've been trying to decide if I should start writing a pre-trip report now, 1 month and 3 weeks away from our trip, or wait until we are just a week or two away. Considering how side tracked I can get, I decided now was a better plan!

Where to begin... I believe first I will start with how long we have been wanting to make this family trip together. In 2007 my (not yet) husband and I decided to surprise the kids with a trip to Disney. We chose Disney because my littlest guy was only 3 at the time and we felt he would better be able to enjoy himself and ride more rides with us there, and we were right. Up until that trip to Disney, I have never so thoroughly planned a trip, but I have to admit... I enjoyed every single second of it! It made the trip itself so much nicer planning what park to be in each day and having a reservation for dinner planned each night at that park. Everything about that trip went smoothly. On our way home, my oldest son brought up wanting to go back to Universal, a park he, his sister and I had visited every year for 3 years together. My (not yet) husband, the kids and I all talked about Universal and how much we love it there. How the atmosphere is so much more relaxed and the employees (stars I believe they are called) are so much more friendly than the cast members at Disney. My (not yet) husband had never been to Universal so naturally we all filled him in on all of it's wonders. From there, the trip planning began.

The following year we didn't make our much desired trip to Universal for several unforeseen and uncontrollable reasons. So, we planned a small family get-away to Gatlinburg instead. In 2009 we still yet were dealing with outside forces demanding our time, attention and finances and once again were disappointed to not be able to take a now much deserved family trip. Thankfully each year we kept Universal on our minds, and in our hearts, and saved up the money for our trip. Let the happy planning begin! That is, after I explain the bittersweet side to our trip.

You see, in Florida also lives my grandparents. Both are very old and neither in good health. My grandfather, Pop as we call him, has not only a bad heart, but cancer as well. He was in remission for a very brief time, but unfortunately that time has ended. Pop is a precious little man with beautiful white hair and sparkling blue eyes, and I don't want him to leave this world without the kids and I being able to see him one more time. While I know our visit with him will be very short , it's one I feel I simply must make. Before anyone asks, he lives with family and you know how families sometimes are, so a short trip will be best for everyone. All I want is a moment to hug him, tell him I love him and see he and my grandmother just one more time.

Now that I have talked a little bit about the reasons for our trip, on to the trip planning itself.

So far we I have booked, unbooked and re booked our room at the HRH for October, purchased tickets for all 7 days and added a one day S&S for my husband and I and even pre-ordered the Universal Guide 2011. YAYness!!! What this leaves me is a month to prepare my dog and cat sitter (AKA my Mom) and get all of the last minute details knocked out before we launch ourselves South. I think I'll save those little details to talk about as I do them.

Now to introduce the STARS of this vacation!!!

There's myself- SharkyGoddess, I am the 38yo SAHBandM, with trip planning OCD, & who's kids will tell you has ADD. Which in my case stands for Attention Deficit DUCK. It's a long story.

Babboo- a 45yo self proclaimed Nerd, who listens to 70's music and is referred to by the teens as "Old Guy"

Stealth Child- a 16yo (god help me he has a permit to drive) BASS guitarist, with not only the Rock Star looks but attitude to match. He's what you might call aloof.

Stick Figure- my energetic, loud, hormonally moody, but very loving and responsible 14yo band enthusiast girl!

Squishy- my sweet, adorable, favorite chil... oh wait... the other two may be reading this... ehem... YOUNGEST child who can make me climb the walls and melt my heart all at the same time. He's 5yo and a boy. What more can I say?

Well, there you have it. Hopefully I didn't bore anyone to death and you guys will stick with me through the rest of our planning!

When are you going to Universal? I am here and ready to read :thumbsup2

Woops... didn't realize I hadn't included that LOL We'll be there in October :)

Are ya still planning???:lmao:

I want your information :rotfl::rotfl2:

HA HA HA!!! I guess I could update by saying as of now I'm practically sitting on my front porch waiting for my Unofficial Universal Guide 2011 that I pre-ordered

I had planned on updating about my ehem... way too early purchasing and packing later when I wouldn't look so silly but then I thought ohhhhh why I'll fit right in!

Tales of packing and the comments that have been made will be posted tomorrow since I have had one of those weeks... and boy do I mean one of THOSE weeks!

YAHOOOO!!!! Got our Unofficial Universal Guide 2011:woohoo:

Thank you soooo much Mr. Monaghan! My DD and I have really enjoyed reading through the pages and reminiscing about our past trips as well as planning for our upcoming one.

Well... I said I was packing, but then I started to think... I have NO idea what the weather will be like. So I unpacked :lmao: I did however look into some of those coolers that you plug in that act as a kind of a frige. Couldn't find any. We're tossing back and forth the thought of whether we should get one for the room since there is no in room refrigerator.

My DD and I did however chose a few places for us to dine at after looking through the menus and prices. We chose:

Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville

Bob Marley - a Tribute to Freedom

Latin Quarter

Pastamore

Pastamore Market Cafe - Breakfast

St. Augustine's - Window Counter

These will be our main meal choices, but I'm sure there will be the usual snackage while in the park. Plus we are having a breakfast at the Three Broomsticks one day and would like to eat at Mythos for dinner one evening.

So... here is where we stand in planning... although if it was up to me I would have the bags packed and sitting by the door NOW:rolleyes1

I am very sad for this PT update. My grandfather passed away yesterday morning. He was surrounded by family and reminded often by my brother and Aunt that we were thinking of him and loved him. We will continue our plans for our trip and as it gets closer to time make plans to visit my grandmother.

We received a cute little draw string back pack, a guitar pin, and our card that is pre-loaded with spending money :thumbsup2

I'm still trying to figure out the dynamics of the card and using it to get the benefits. So far I have received conflicting info on whether I can even use the card since I booked our stay through the Universal package line. When we arrive I guess I will find out :)

Thank you so much :goodvibes

The book is great! Lots of goooood info!!! :thumbsup2

We thought and thought and decided on purchasing ourselves an electric cooler for not only the room while we're there but also for the trip up and back. It's a LONG drive and not having to fuss with ice and wet drinks dripping every where will be an added plus!

Here's a link to the cooler we are getting just in case anyone else would like one ;)

We are going to be at HRH the same week as you :cool2:. Hoping for fantastic weather. I'm already wearing my down parka here, I get cold easily. What day are you doing HHN? My DH and I are thinking Wed. or Thurs. night for us (not the kids this time though). I can't buy our S+S until the day of, because I bought our park passes through Mapleleaf. Happy planning and safe travel! Perhaps we will bump into one another at the pool!

YAYness! Someone else will be there when we are!

I'm so hot natured I am ready to freeze my bum off LOL DH and I are going on the 20th, which iirc is a Wednesday. That day was suggested to us as one of the lighter days. We're doing the S&S too with an express pass just in case. No kids for us either, even though they're pouting and will be pouting until we return. I'd just like a night out to enjoy with the Hubs.

Hope to bump into you guys!

First so sorry to hear of you grandfathers passing.

But.....good pre trippie :thumbsup2

Lots of nice places planned to eat. Hope you`re going to do a full trip report when you get back.

What dates are you there? I think we miss nearly everybody this year as we don`t arrive till Oct 22nd.

Thank you :goodvibes

We'll be there from 10/16 - 10/23, so we cross each other for one night and a day :)

I would have LOVED to have done the RIP tour with everyone, but it just wasn't in the cards this year. I'm just delirious to be going back at all!

I had wondered if Wed. would be less crowded than Thurs....hmmm. Thurs. is open one extra hour, so I'm torn. Hearing that you will be going Wed. is tipping the scales in a Wed. night direction now!!

I am getting a little over excited now :thumbsup2

We go to UNI in 3 days!!! I will post pictures, I am glad you have found someone going at the same time :goodvibes

HHN is going to be sooooo much fun ;)
