i just spent the past 45 minutes searching various key words looking for tips, advice, and experiences with getting protein shakes mixed. No super recent info.

As a last laaaaast resort, yes, I will bring a shaker blender bottle. I’d like to rule out all other options first. I can shake that thing for an eternity and there would still be lumps. :sad2:

Has anyone brought a battery operated small personal blender cup onboard? Yes, I know electric blenders are on the prohibited items list. Just wondering if anyone had attempted to bring one.

Has anyone recently gone to the coffee bar or juice bar and had them mix your powder with some milk and perhaps a banana? If yes, how much did they charge you?

Milk. Has anyone found non-dairy milk alternatives such as soy, coconut, or almond milk for free or purchase? I did notice one of the juice smoothies in the Senses juice bar had almond milk listed. I’d willingly pay the asking price of the beverage if they’d just throw the milk, a banana, my powder, and some ice into the blender for me.

How did you carry your protein powder onboard? The brand I currently use doesn’t offer single serve packets. I’m also adding collagen isolate powder to help with my joint pain and that, also, is a smaller canister. The nutrition shop I buy from printed me some adhesive labels for my protein & I’m about to purchase heat seal packets on Amazon to make my own single serve packets. I can pre-package my big scoop of protein with the collagen together.

Yep, I know this stuff has been discussed before. Yep, I did do some searches. Hopefully this thread will be useful info for others in the future.

And, for the inevitable person who will question why I don’t avoid the hassle altogether and just eat my nutrition.... in the past 6 months I’ve lost right at 50 lbs. I’ve worked VERY hard. Yes, for a while I was eating egg whites and spinach...I did cold oats with berries for a while...things like that. Where I am now in my journey is shakes for breakfast with maybe 1/2 cup of blueberries to nibble. I’m still progressing. This is what I’m doing and it’s working. I’m not interested in modification right now, not even for a cruise.

I’ll be on the Fantasy for 14 nights in less than a month. It’s important to formulate my plan for food, nutrition, and excersise now so I can relax and enjoy my time when I get there!

Thanks muchly in advance!

I can only help with the milk part of your question. My niece who has some dairy allergy issues, has had both soy and almond milk in single service packages at Cabanas.

Congratulations on your weight loss! That’s not easy! About six years ago I lost around 50 lbs with moderation and healthier choices. I’ve stayed a much healthier eater, but I’ve been lax on portions, over the last two (stressful) years the weight has been creeping back on and no amount of portion control, exercise, and healthy eating seems to be making a difference. Very frustrating, so I completely understand your wanting to stay with what’s working. I hope you’re able to find something that will work for you.

I can’t speak to the blenders, but yes, Cabanas has soy and almond milk in single serve containers. The MDRs can get it for you too.

The heat seal packages sound like they’ll do the trick. Not sure how much powder you use, but a thought I had was the travel containers for baby formula. I’ve seen some that have 5 or 6 sections to them.

Good luck!

Hopefully someone else can give you a definitive answer, but for health code reasons it is unlikely the ship will be able to take your food (powder) and add it to the blender for your drink. See below re: asking DCL directly.

Cabanas has alternate milks available at breakfast. IIRC soy and almond milk, theere may be others. I have seen a picture posted somewhere in these threads of what is available.

If you have a specific battery-powered blender in mind, I suggest contacting DCL directly. Ask them if it is ok to bring on board. My guess is you would have better success if it can ONLY be powered by batteries. e.g. I have a "vortex"-type little "blender" that I bought a couple decades ago that runs only on two AAA batteries. It does a better job than a shaker bottle, but is nowhere near as powerful as an actual blender. A Real blender that plugs in would be a concern for overloading the electrical system as they draw a fair bit of power.

As for the powder, again that may be a question for DCL. Actual foods can only be brought on board if they are in a commercially packaged, factory sealed original container. I don't know how protein powders fall in that regard. Likewise there is the issue of coming back off the ship into the US, where you will encounter US Customs regulations for it.

Since the protein powder is part of a special diet for you, you may want to contact DCL's Special Services department and speak with them and ask all your questions of them:

Also, are you flying ? There are considerations for bringing powders in carry-on baggage that you should make yourself aware of. You CAN bring it, but over a certain volume and it will undergo additional scrutiny for domestic flights; for international flights over a certain volume it isn't allowed in carry-on. The TSA has information on their website.

It is a little out of scope for your drink but there was an Edna Mode Chai Smoothie that had protein mix. It was available in the Cove and one or two other locations on the ship but that was a few years ago. Last May on the Fantasy there was the juice/smoothie bar at Senses. They had a few other smoothie options. They had more choices and were closer to a “Jamba Juice” type than the coffee/tea type. Last You could examine the options to see how well they fit with your normal drinks. I think the bartenders in the cove, if they can still do smoothies, would probably be easier to work with to make a special request. (Certain times of the day might be easier than others.)

Thanks for all the responses!

I am SO glad almond milk is being made available! Single serve is perfect!

I hadn’t thought of baby formula portion containers. I’ll look! Good tip!

In the past people have reported having their protein shakes mixed in blenders. Was wondering if anyone had done it recently. It’s preferred but I’ll bring a shaker tumbler just in case.

I was thinking my chances would be far better on the battery powered blender (mixer) cup if it wasn’t a rechargeable. I found one that takes standard AAA batteries.

I won’t bring any protein powder back into the US so no worries there. We are flying in domestically with checked luggage so no need to put any in my carryon. Check and check!

I had checked the juice bar menus and saw the Edna Mode. It looked interesting!

Thanks again for all the responses! Good info!

have you tried other brands of protein? I know it is a touchy subject for some people. I have had great success with the ability to dissolve optimum nutrions gold standard whey. I suspect it may be the collagen that is tough to blend?

God on you and your nutritional goals. Keep up the great work!

As far as blender bottles...I was never a fan of blender bottles until I tried the one that came with my pre-workout powder (C4), but this thing is awesome. I've tried it with all kind of protein powders (whey isolate, casein, Combat, BCAA) and I never have lumps. It's made by SmartShake, it has a mixer net that snaps in the lid (no ball or other object bouncing around).

Just another option for you to consider so you can chase those gainz on the cruise...

I’ve used others in years past. I really like the kind I’m currently using. Just bought another huge canister on a Saturday so hoping not to spend that kind of money again for a while. The collagen is the harder to dissolve part. But, I’ll eat that powder dry if I have to. I’ve been really fighting my knees for quite some time and finally starting to get some relief after using the collagen for just over 2 weeks.

I have one like this! I’ll have to see if I still have it. I forget what it came with but I know it’s not one I went out and bought. I’ll give it another try!

While you are in the baby food section, look around there are battery operated blender "sticks" that actually blend pretty well. They are also cheap. They are designed to fit into a bottle, so if you have a huge cup, may have some left on the bottom, but for most sized cups and blender type bottles, the spinning portion will get to the bottom.

I buy Premier Protien single serve available at Sams Club. 30g protein per serving and low in calories, fat and sugar. Helped me to lose 120 over a year long period. Taste better than any powder and convenient because they are ready to drink. Maybe look into something like that just for your cruise. That way you dont have to bend over backwards to keep up the shake thing and can stay with the ease.

I was going to ask if you can bring some pre-made ones with you. I also like Premier Protein. I guess it depends on how many times a day you are having these shakes as well.

I was going to say the same thing as Starwind about carry-on luggage, as my DH ran into trouble last time we flew to Orlando, so it's good to hear you are checking a bag.

I doubt they will blend anything they don't sell because of allergies and cross-contamination issues, but if you call ahead, there might be some more specific restrictions than "no blenders" that actually allow certain ones for medical reasons (even if they make you check it in with health services and not use it in your room).

Congrats on your weight loss and your dedication!

It's been about 4 years or so, but someone I know that worked w/DVC on the ships always took a small "Magic Bullet" with him and ordered bowls of fresh fruit every morning from room service. He said he told them he was on a special diet, which he was. I agree with calling DCL special services to see what they say..... I know the shaker bottles work pretty good but for some protein shakes, they really do need a blender.... .good luck Sweetpee!

Also an excellent idea! I’ll see what I can find! Thanks!

Well, I’m not a Sam’s member and no way to get to Sam’s once we get to Florida. I’m on the Fantasy b2b so that’s be a LOT of shakes to carry onboard. However, perhaps one of the grocery delivery services would have something.... We are at WDW 2 nights pre-cruise.

Perhaps a call to special services us something to try. And thank you.

Yeah, the collagen powder tends to stay more clumpy without a blender. That’s the most important part, tho! Thank you. :)

Get the battery operated blender. You cant put fruit in them, or at least the ones I have seen.

I think my BiL has a battery one. I need to ask him what he has.

This pitcher is meant for baby formula and does an excellent job of dissolving powder. You just have to make sure you assemble it with the mixing wheel in the right direction. Of course it won’t blend up bananas, but if you’re desperate this will work better than slaking.

Dr. Brown's Formula Mixing Pitcher https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001I481LM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0QkHBbB2JH3KR

Now see? If they had this sort of thing in just a cup size it’d be perfect!

UPDATE! Guess what Prime Now as available to order for WDW delivery?! Premier Protein! 4-packs are $8.99 so not crazy expensive. I’ll have to carry 14 onboard, tho. Yikes! Well, I’ll have a rolling carryon for the ship & since we are concierge it’s not like I’ll have to haul that heavy bag for hours and hours. Definitely considering this option!

Thats awesome and convenient. They are definitely more than Sams Club but still worth doing so you dont have to lug them around!

We always carry on a case of water in a rolling carry on, so I think you should be able to do the same with this.
