I've heard rides referred to as such and the pools at the DLH are named after these terms, but I have no idea what they really mean and where the terms come from. Please educate me! :)

When rides took individual tickets, each ticket had a value. With A being the lowest and E being the highest.

A long time ago Disneyland attractions weren't included with the price of admission. You had to buy ticket books and each attraction (with a few exceptions) cost one ticket to experience. The best attractions (Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Space Mtn, etc) were "E-tickets". The next best attractions were "D-tickets," and so on.

Awww got it! Yes my mom and stepdad who both visited Disneyland the first time on opening day talk about the ride tickets.

Does anyone know in what year the ride tickets stopped? I don't remember them on our trips as a child, but my first trip was 40 years ago so wondering if it was still done that way then.

I think that they stopped in the late 70s/Early 80s. My first trip was 40 years ago, and I do remember them.

I remember them from when I was a kid as well. I think maybe they stopped in the early 80's?

1983/84 was when my family first got annual passes at DLR so I think the tickets were gone by then.
