Lesson learned. Need more days in Disney!!! Aug 2010 (NEW 1/20-COMPLETE)

That must have been disappointing but a fun little adventure! I applaud you for going out in the cold. It has been so cold recently that I don't leave the house unless I absolutely have to!

Wow, it really looks like the stuff being sold at the bakeries here in Germany! :thumbsup2

If it was too salty, did you try to just scratch of the salt? That's what a lot of people do here. :goodvibes

I did scratch off salt, but a lot of it was....kind of melted into the pretzel.....it was just too salty.

Yeah, it WAS fun. I got to pick up some food stuff and will definitely be back. It's SOOOO COOOLD now! Walking around the place, I had to wear my gloves. I can't wait to come back when it's warmer.

I know what you mean about going out though, haha. If I didn't have work today, I wouldn't have left the house either.

Oh, I almost forgot. I wanted to show everybody that I got this
SSPX0313.jpg

They called it a cream horn, but it looks like the cloudberry horn from Norway.

I've never had the cloudberry, and I still haven't tried this one yet, but it looks REALLY GOOD. So I'm looking forward to enjoying it.

It's funny you say they call it a Cream Horn while in "Norway" it's a cloudberry " I always looked at them and said looks like the Cream Horns we had in England !!1That Pretzel bread looked good !! Too bad it was soooo salty!!

It looks bigger than the Cloudberry horns. You can tell the difference b/w the Cloudberry and a regular cream horn. The cloudberry horn filling tastes like raspberry.

In chinese, it's a cone. And it's a bread instead of pastry. Oooh, makes me wanna go to a Chinese bakery now....

Oh, it tastes like raspberry? How interesting! I'll have to be sure to try it on my next trip.

Why don't people fill these up with chocolate cream? I think that's a SMASHING idea. Same goes to cream puffs. I used to love these chocolate cream puffs from a bakery in Hong Kong, but then they moved and I haven't been able to find them anywhere since.

hi Yuki!

i've caught up on your trip reports and can't wait to hear more! subscribing :)

The case of the missing Pretzel Bread..... Hope you find the "real deal":goodvibes The cream horn looks worth the trip! :thumbsup2

Yeah, I'm hoping I'll be able to find. Jen is hot on the tail of another place that may have it. I can't wait to hear her findings.

Mmmmm, that cream horn was SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD.

We had those when I was growing up and called them Cream Horns. Must have been Rosie's influence extending down into PA.

I didn't even know about these until the end of high school. How have I been depraved for so long???

Oh my gosh! I am so pumped that you found pretzel rolls! Too bad it was too salty. I have been so crazy busy with Christmas preperations. One of these days I'll check out that bakery that Magdalene found. It just sucks they're only open Mon-Fri when I'm working! It might not be until next week but you'll be sure to hear about it when I do finally get over there!

Yeah, I'm going to check out the bakeries in Toronto to see if I can find better ones.

I can't wait to hear about what you find!

Chapter 13. Day 3 pt.2- Wow, that's a lot of money

First, I want to apologize for my complete lack of updates about my trip. I also realized a while ago that I forgot to include the lessons I learned from my days in Epcot. So here they are!

Lesson number 6. I should raise my tolerance for alcohol before my next trip, and should also have a snack to drink with.

Lesson number 7. Epcot NEEDS at LEAST 2 full days. I knew it needed more than 1 day, but my 1.5 days just didn't cut it. Both Future World and World Showcase needs at least a day each.

Now back to our regular programming! When I last left you, Andrew had fallen for the Earl. After our wonderful lunch, we wandered over to Once Upon a Toy to see if I can find something for my baby cousins. My goal for the day was to finish all (or at least most) of my souvenir shopping so I don't have to spend TOO much time in shops in the parks. Of course, key word is "too much" because I will, much to the displeasure of Andrew, spend some time in the stores. He knew about this well before the trip, so he was ready and armed with his DS.

I've mentioned this before, that it's customary in my East Asian culture to bring back souvenirs for our family and friends when we traveled. I've been doing this since I was a little kid. Of course, this is the first year I had to PAY for any of the souvenirs I bought. On my last trip to WDW, I had recently got my driver's license, so I was given a cash reward that I used to buy souvenirs for other people with (Aren't I selfless? :littleangel:). But this time around, I paid for everything with my own money.

First thing I see is my favourite space commander!
DSC00285.jpg

Oh, he's so manly!

Unfortunately, that's the only picture I took of the store. I guess Andrew didn't think of taking any pictures. I LOVED the giant wall of Minnie Mouse stuff they had! I just love Minnie Mouse merchandise. I was able to find something for one of my baby cousins.

In this store, I spotted something I've been pining for since my last trip to WDW. A GIANT Stitch. It's pretty much....more than half my size. It's SOOOOO CUUUUUTE! I fell for it on my last trip, but knew I had no space in my suitcase for it, so I didn't get it. This year, I was prepared. Oddly though, I still didn't want to spend any money. So what does a girl do when she wants something but doesn't want to pay for it?

That's right, I walked around the store with Stitch in my arms, making googly eyes at Andrew until he said, "Fine! That's my anniversary gift to you, ok?" Of course, I nodded happily and giddily jumped up and down as he paid for it at the counter. =) That brings my Stitch plush count up to 6.

After that happy purchase, we went over to the ginormous pins store. I've been interested in these pins since my last trip here. I even did some trading on this trip! I plan on buying a lot of pins on ebay to trade during my 2013 trip.

I know I've mentioned this a lot. I've been planning a 2013 trip with two of my younger cousins. I wanted to get them souvenirs they could use on our trip, so decided to pick them up each a lanyard and a starter pin. I bought those mystery pin packs that had 2 pins for $10. Great deal if you plan on trading anyways.

Andrew actually became pretty interested in this store. That really surprised me. As I was looking for appropriate lanyards, here are the photos he took.

So many pins!!!

I love Daisy.

This board had a lot of cute pins on it.
DSC00289.jpg

I'm not a fan of Star Wars, but the Stitches here are too cute.
DSC00290.jpg

And of course, Andrew knows how much I love Stitch, so he took this for me.
DSC00291.jpg

He even bought me the Stitch Elvis pin! I had bought enough to be eligible to get a mystery pin for $1. It was a Main Street Parade Goofy. I didn't like it so much, so definitely looked forward to trading it! I knew what I wanted too. A Chip or Dale head pin.

I knew I wanted to go to Basin and Tren-D, so those were my next stops. I can't remember which I went to first...So....Basin first it is!

I really liked this store. I don't think the smell intimidated me as much as I thought it would. It's not as overwhelming as the Bath and Body works, imo. The make-your-own soy candles looked so cool! I LOVED the colours and all the different smells they had. Maybe someday....when I have my own place....I'll make one here.

After seeing all the soaps on Lia's report, I knew I had to check this place out. They're all so adorable! So many differen kinds of smells too. I ended up buying one that had a wave in it called "Tranquility". It was on sale.

The bath bombs looked really nice, but I didn't think to pick any up. I came back for them on a different visit. Same kind of thing happened with Andrew. He fell for the almond soap but didn't really think to buy it. Who woulda thought that BASIN actually brought Andrew back to DtD?

I really liked the Shea Salt scrubs they had, but only really wanted a small jug of it. You can only buy it in a big jar, so I decided that I can pick up some small jars at the dollar store, fill them up with the salt and give them to the women in my family! That's 6 souvenirs in one! My, aren't I resourceful?

I have no idea why I have no photos for this portion of the day. You'd think a bored Andrew would take more photos! Next we moved onto Tren-D. Andrew basically sat outside and waited for me to be done.

There were SO MANY THINGS I wanted from this store. Cute tops and dresses and bags. I ended up buying an adorable light pink racerback tee with Minnie Mouse in embedded gems on the front. Also picked up a couple of buttons to put on my bags.

We moved onto Ghiradelli to get a snack. This is one of the places I really wanted to eat at.
DSC00294.jpg

My experience at this place wasn't the best. After ordering a Dark Choco Mint Quake Shake, I was given a stand with a number and we found a seat inside the building. We just chilled and chatted about my plans for the day and what Andrew thought of DtD so far. It was 3:15pm at the time. After some more waiting, I started to wonder if the service here was always this slow. I didn't read about any of these complaints on the Dis, so I didn't know what to expect. I just chalked it up to the place being busy.

After 20 minutes, we still hadn't gotten our shake. The patrons at the tables that arrived after us already got their food. I was starting to think we were forgotten. After 10 more minutes. I went up to the counter and asked them about my order. Apparently, they had lost my order ticket.....

So within 5 minutes, my shake arrived. Without an apology or anything, they just set it on the table. The shake itself just tasted like a melted McFlurry. The chocolate pieces were nice and chewy. Overall, my impression of the place isn't very good. I was very disappointed.

After that experience, we made our way to....The World of Disney! Here are some photos Andrew took on our way there.
DSC00295.jpg

DSC00296.jpg

This is my favourite entrance to the store. Not only is it Stitch themed, but it's also pirate themed!
DSC00297.jpg

I knew about the spitting Stitch, so we stood there for a good 5 minutes, waiting for unsuspecting people to get wet.
DSC00298.jpg

Before we went in, I spotted this handsome man at the entrance! It was love at first sight.
DSC00299.jpg

Andrew doesn't look like he agrees with our love though.
DSC00300.jpg

Skeleton Jack is so coool!
DSC00301.jpg

These guys were pretty cool too.
DSC00302.jpg

Not as cool as these though. They actually slowly moved the bars back and forth. Great touch.
DSC00303.jpg

While I did my shopping, I sent Andrew to take some photos and videos of the place. It's beautiful in there.

As I was wandering around, looking for souvenirs, I came across some crocs. I had never been a fan of crocs clogs cause I think they look hideous. But the store had some Athens on display, which is one of their flip flop designs. It looked pretty good so I tried on a pair.

My impression? My feet were singing HALLELUJAH. They were so incredibly comfortable!!! I knew right then that I had to get me a pair. On sale. Not at Disney.

So, after grabbing all the stuff I wanted to get my family and friends, we headed to check out. We also decided to buy thr 2-piece luggage set for...$16 I think? Good thing, cause we definitely needed it, and it has become my weekend bag!

So the total comes out to.....WHAT???? That much??? Oh my gosh..... I didn't say any of that out loud of course. I started thinking, is there anything I don't really need in here? No, everything here is something for a friend of family member. I had planned on getting this stuff anyways, but had no idea it would cost so much! To be fair, the most expensive items were for my two siblings. They wanted sweaters. Everything else was under $20.

So.....I looked to Andrew and he understood. He footed the bill of over $300. Ok, he only footed $200 of it, but it was still very nice of him. I've already paid him back for it. Who knew I would almost blow my budget by the 3rd day???

Sooooo, after all this, I have finally learned the lesson. Lesson number 8. Only buy souvenirs for myself. No more buying them for friends and family. Or at least, no more big ticket items. From now on, I will only buy souvenirs at Mickey's Mart.

We had to ration our money for the rest of the trip and I ended up charging my Canadian credit card for some things I knew I HAD to get. It's definitely not a fun thing to do.

Coming up next: ToT for the FIRST TIME! :scared1:

Glad you had a great day of shopping, Yuki.
Too bad Ghirardelli's was disappointing.
easy to blow your budget at Disney!:goodvibes

Have a Merry Christmas!

Sounds like a good day at DtD, well except the bad service at Ghiradelli. I know that I will probably be blowing lots of money there in May. I want to get one of the Dooney and Bourke bags and of course a trip to Basin is in order!

Yeah, it's really too bad Ghirardelli's service wasn't top notch that day.

It's too easy! That's why I made a list of what I want, and tried to stick to it. It really was the souvenirs for family and friends that pushed it over the edge though. No more of that!

Yeah, it was a pretty good day. There was a Glee club like group performing right outside the WoD too!

Oooh, I asked Danica to pick up a Dooney and Burke bag for me. You just reminded me that I still need to send her the money! I can't wait to have it!

The new styles are just SOOO CUUUTE! I really want the balloons bags.

I still love the original Sketch design. I'm sure it will be a tough decision once I get there and see them all in front of me. What I REALLY want is the DCL Dooney Bag, it is similar to the Parks Sketch bag but all DCL!

:rotfl: It's sitting under my bed, not going anywhere... and if you still need time, it's small enough to come home with me to Boston, and then I can send it to you from there. I will be home beginning of January.

I all too well know that it is easy to spend money at Disney...
