less than 3 weeks out - can I find a deal on airfare?

So we are less than 3 weeks out - 20 days to be exact. Today in the mail, we got a refund check for our escrow account on our mortgage. We had intended to drive, (from Dallas) but would now like to fly if I can find a good deal.

Just a quick search of Orbitz and Southwest puts us at around $1200. I'd like to find something less than that. Any thoughts?

$1200 each or $1200 for 4? $1200 for 4 is a pretty good price. I'm looking for flights for October from Pittsburgh and can't find under $400 for 1.

Not that I'm expecting to find that, but at least under $1000. Is this possible in June? And this close to our travel dates? We are a little flexible, as we have family in Tampa we can stay with if needed.

It looks like the cheapest you can do is by flying Spirit ($288pp compared to $350pp). That's not checking SW.

If your heart is set on flying, check flights hourly. I personally use http://matrix.itasoftware.com/search.htm. It won't give you SW prices, but it's easy to search for various dates, airlines, and airports.

I highly doubt prices will drop, but as long as you have a backup plan, you've got nothing to lose by checking.
