My son's braces come off 1 week from Tues! 
He started with them, just the back teeth 'banded' and the bite plate the week after school let out in June 2002. Now, the week after school lets out, the top braces come off and the retainer goes in! 
Just about 2 years to the day! The orthodonist has to take the impression for the bottom retainer yet (probably this visit) then next month, the bottoms come out. I find it not only odd that he is not taking the whole mouth out at once, but that he is taking the top off first. Kirk's bottom teeth have been "done" for several months now, we were just waiting on a stubborn top tooth. He doesn't care which comes out first, just as long as he knows they ARE coming out!!
