Less Strollers?

Can someone who has been in Disney recently please let us know: Are there a lot less strollers being rented since the price increase? Are there a lot less strollers overall or are people bringing there own?

The recent Kevin Yee article on Mice Age:

Alludes to far fewer rented strollers in the park.

This is of course a very personal and perceptual thing.. and your impression of far fewer may not align with Kevin's.. but it is an interesting read.

I haven't been to the parks in a couple of weeks, so I don't know about the strollers there. I will tell you that I have seen a large increase in strollers at DTD. These are not rented strollers, but personal ones. In the past, many people did not bring their own strollers. They rented them in the parks and just made due without at DTD. Since the price for renting strollers increased, many people are bringing their personal strollers. Since they have them, they are using them at DTD. Unfortunately, DTD is a much smaller space than the theme parks and so many more strollers makes it hard to navigate. I especially dislike them in World of Disney. That store is normally so crowded anyway. Now, double-wide strollers make it hard to navigate at all.

We were there from April 7-11 so right after the price increase took effect and I can say that I noticed a HUGE dropoff in the number of rented strollers in the parks. Especially the double strollers. But overall the number of strollers was the same, I think, just more people had their own. I saw TONS of sit and stand strollers (maybe I was just noticing them more since we got one for this trip!).

Wow, very good thoughts, at least IMO. An interesting read.

My sister just got back. She wasn't expecting to need a stroller, but ended up needing one. When she saw the new price of a rental - she bought one of the ones they sell instead. My understanding is that they are also selling the same ones at DTD. The strollers cost $40, and are much smaller than the rental strollers. So very likely a number of folks who previously rented are doing the same a buying the ones they sell.

I always like Mr. Yee's articles, even if I don't always agree with him because its a perspective I'm not privy to.

All you need to do is get caught in a serious downpour and go into a store (even Mouse Gear) to kill some time. You'll find out in a hurry how many strollers there are!! You can't move, even in the largest stores.
And I totally agree about World of Disney. Those stores weren't meant for large numbers of strollers. Only takes a couple to block the aisles and then no one can move.
The number of strollers being used when you are at Epcot is really visible if you go somewhere like The Land and see them lined up outside. :-)

Very interesting perspective on the stroller issue and the business of Disney. Thanks for posting the link.

We were there at the same time as JillPTFLA and noticed the same thing. A lot fewer Disney strollers in the parks.

And not to knock people with strollers but I'm glad of the price increase at Disney. I'm hoping that people will leave the big bulky strollers at home and bring smaller ones. It's very difficult at times to browse in a store with strollers blocking the aisles. Especially one of those big Disney double strollers.

I was just in the parks last week and I did notice a difference.
