I'm back and I want to know who asked for this frigid weather? I am jealous of those going to WDW in a few weeks.
The training was fast paced, fun, overwhelming, interesting, tiring, nothing revolutionary, but yet something that very few practice. The gist of it: teach people more about your organization and why they should care, cultivate them, don't pressure them to give, and then when they do....treat them right, most often a simple thank you goes along way. Sounds like something I have been saying for a long time but no one listened. You know those cold calls will get you real far. Oh well. Following this model (which is actually more extensive than outlined above) should bring in some good funds for GS and help us build a stronger program. Then I am taking it to the Library Board since we really need to do some work there.
Food Monday was not great. Had the soup for lunch. Then had some goldfish and some ho-hos. Can't remember what else. Then supper was really good. Salad, angel hair pasta topped w/chicken, garlic, broccoli, mushrooms, and a few other veggies. Just something I came up with. Really late, I had some M&M's because I was way past bed time and very hungry. We didn't get to the hotel until almost midnight.
The food at the convention was so delicious, I thought I was in heaven. Tuesday breakfast was pineapple (bitter), honey dew melon, strawberries, sm blueberry muffin, 1 hard boiled egg, and tea. Lunch began with a spinach and strawberry salad with stawberry vinegrette followed by the main course which was a rice mixture and some other grains, grilled veggies like peppers, onions and such, 2 sm chicken breasts in a cream sauce that had a hint of cheese and topped with onion, corn and grapes. Very will presented. They also had various rolls. Dessert was a fairly large tart sitting on raspberry sauch and whipped cream. Then inside of the tart was coated with chocolate, filled with vanilla cream and topped with various fruit. It was so good and worth every bite. PM snack was a banana and a brownie with coconut and nuts. For supper we went to the steakhouse in the hotel called Delaney & Murphy's. For anyone in the area (Sheraton hotel, Arlington Heights), you must try out this restaurant. Little pricy but excellent. I had the house special which was a beef tenderloin marinated for 24 hrs and then served with a carmalized shallot cream sauce. It literally melted in your mouth. It was served with yokon gold mashed potatoes and cooked spinach w/mushrooms. Very well presented and very delicious. Had 2 glasses wine. Oh and a dark rye bread w/raisins, delish.
Wednesdays breakfast was pretty much the same except I skipped the pineapple and I had more hot tea. AM snack was 1 hard boiled egg. Lunch was a turkey sandwich on a huge roll, potato salad with a really creamy sauce, and some pasta salad that was ok. That was followed by a generous slice of carrot cake. PM snack was 1 white choc macadamia cookie and 1 peanut butter w/choc chunks cookie. Both were good and I didn't really need them, but they were there. I didn't have supper until really late last night and I ate potato soup.
All in all the convention was fun, but I am glad to be back home.
Gotta go. I will post more about the day, but for now I need to go carve turkeys for the GS Investiture dinner tonight. Almost everything is set up and ready to go.
Thanks for stopping by Christin, nice to see you again.
Everyone have a great day!
