Lesli's Live Long and Strong WISH Journal

Sounds like you had a pretty good day yesterday! It looks like your portions were under control. Good for you!

How sweet of you to send pizza to DD18! I bet she appreciates knowing you're thinking about her.

Good luck with the potty training adventures for DS!

I hope you had a wonderful Monday! :sunny:

Well, I am 1.5 lbs from where my ticker reads. This last week has been a bit of a struggle in terms of paying attention to weight. But I am getting there.

Yesterday was pretty good for the most part. I stayed busy and DS drove me nuts with the training business, but all in due time. Last night I was supposed to give a presentation at a District meeting and one of the others that went to convention unexpectedly showed. If I had known, I would have stayed home (they only needed one). Unfortunately, we had to "combine" our presentations. I like the person, don't get me wrong, but my presentation was less than 10 minutes to the point, had some excitement, and got out the pertinent info from the convention. The other person's drug on, one district meeting she went to it was 45 min! Needless to say, I felt like a bumbling fool trying to figure out what she covered or didn't cover that was important for people to know. All the while, I was watching them get bored and I (note, I was standing in front of everyone) began watching the clock. I think it was 20-25 minutes long, which just forced me to really narrow down the most important items I needed to speak about. It was awful and a waste of my time. Needless to say, I feel like I didn't come across as a confident, well spoken person. Thank God some of the staff and one of the board members saw my previous presentation so they know what I can do.

Sorry, it just still bugs me a bit.

Food. AM snack was on plan plus a piece of fresh baked apple bread. Lunch was late and I didn't have the time to get groceries so I had HC veggie soup. PM snack was apple bread. I did make soup for the family before I left, but I didn't have any until really late. It was so good. At the meeting, I had 2 sm slices of salami, 1 sm piece carrot cake, and 1 fun size candy. I tried very hard to avoid this but without supper, it was hard. On the other hand, it was a good thing that I did have these little morsels, because it saved me from stopping at McD's on the way home. I need to plan better before going to meetings.

Breakfast: cream of wheat, ham, yogurt, juice, and apple bread (yes, it was alot)
AM snack: maybe some veggies (breakfast was filling)
Lunch: soup
PM snack: milk & piece of fruit
Supper: the family will probably want soup, I think I will do a salad (we all have to leave for things early tonight)

Goals for day:
1. water
2. prepare meeting for tonight
3. bookwork

Time to get going. I will talk to you all later. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Good Morning!

Glad to hear you were able to stay busy yesterday. I'm sorry about the snafu with the presentations, though. What a drag! There's nothing worse that someone who drones on and on--you wind up being so focused on how bored you are that you don't get anything out of it! It sounds like you get this and worked hard to make a good presentation, so I'm so sorry it got mixed up with the other one!

Apple bread--yummy! I've got a bag of apples I need to use up, and I was thinking cobbler, but apple bread sounds even nicer. I may have to check into that...

I agree with you that a little bit of controlled snacking at the meeting is much better than needing to swing through a drive through when you get home. It sounds like you did great yesterday!

Hope today is wonderful as well!!! :sunny:

P.S. If you get a chance, stop by the 300 club thread. We're having a party!!!

Ok, yesterday was busy preparing for a meeting and planning an event for GS. One that includes family and a banquet. Thankfully, the hard part is over, now to throw it all together.

I missed the AM snack. Lunch was late and I ate potato soup. Had a little candy in the afternoon. For supper, I had some apple bread & soup. That was followed by PB. Water was ok.

This morning, I was 1 lb from my ticker.

So far today, I have been catching up GS and the family reunion to get things in the mail in the next few minutes. Well, and trying to train DS which was good yesterday and so so today. Basically, I am trying to focus on getting things back under control. Good news! I actually got rid of one of my jobs at the GS meeting last night when someone stepped up to oversee events in our area! She doesn't have to plan everything, but at least everyone won't be calling me on that issue. I passed out ALL the job descriptions in hopes that I could snag a few more people, but I am seeing some interest, which is great news for me.

Food so far has been:
Breakfast: cream of wheat, 1 egg omelet w/moz, 1 c milk, 1 c juice
AM snack: missed
Lunch: HC chicken & rice soup w/ crackers
PM snack: a few small slices of apple dipped in caramel
Supper: I am not sure yet, but pizza sounds good

Goals for day:
1. Water - I am not doing well here and need to bump up a little bit
2. Get things in mail - that is going well
3. Bookwork - later tonight

I need to get going. Need to get up to the post office before it closes. Everyone have a good evening. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Good for you getting back toward you ticker!!!! That has to feel great! :cool1:

I'm also glad to hear some help may be on the way for GS. Passing out job descriptions is a great idea--I'm sure a lot of people will be more willing to help out if they know exactly what they'll be doing.

I hope you have a great day! :sunny:

We had pizza for supper last night and I ate a couple too many. Thankfully, it was still early in the evening though.

Today will be another busy one. We have a Veteran's Day program at the school and this one should be big than ever since the person who runs it is retiring this year. She really does a wonderful job and there is absolutely no way you can walk out without shedding a tear.

After that, I should run some errands, but don't know if I will get that far or not. I have a training to put on tonight so I need to prepare for that as well. Aside from the "catch up" phase that I am still in.

Breakfast: 1 scrambled egg w/cheese on tortilla, 1 c milk
AM snack: maybe some PB before I go, otherwise no time
Lunch: salad & maybe a cup of soup
PM snack: fruit
Supper: broccoli & chicken if time otherwise potato soup

Can you tell I am on the soup kick? There are so many choices and it's easy and filling.

Goals for day:
1. water

This is the one thing that I really need to work on so let's keep things simple.

Later tonight, I am going to do a progress report. I have been here for 8 months and really thought I would just about be at my goal by now. So maybe it is time to look at things again to see where I have been, where I am now, and where I am going.

Everyone have a wonderful day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

It is so cool that the school actually puts on a presentation for Veteran's Day so the kids can actually understand what we're comemmorating. I'm very impressed and it sounds like it's going to be great!

I can tell you've been on a soup kick :teeth: You actually inspired me to give it a try and I must agree with you that it's very filling and hearty. Some vegetarian vegetable made a great afternoon snack for me last week, so thanks for the idea!

I hope today is going well. Drink up! :flower:

It's been really busy here.

Food hasn't been all bad but isn't really on a good schedule and well rounded. Well, except for Friday? That was a cookie day. Just stressing.

Just when I told myself I would slow down, I took on one more thing. It was just one of those one time things and it could benefit in more than one place. I was called by GS Council to go to a Fund Raising training in Chicago. We leave on Monday. This means that I would have to help them implement this fund raising model when we get back but they aren't starting in January and it really wasn't going to take a lot of extra time away from things. But this could help me with fund raising for the library as well. At least I hope. I will give myself some credit though......I did not say "yes" right away. In fact I "ignored" the email for a few hours then I called to ask more questions, but got an answering machine. Friday night worked out the pros and cons with DH, Saturday discussed it some more, then when I got the answers to my questions, I told them I would call them back in a few hours and let them know. So really, I did good.

Today DD8 and I are off to a Mad Hatter Tea Party followed by a ballet. We are so excited. DH, DS, and DD16 went up to Chicago this morning.

Breakfast: 1 egg omelet w/cheese, ham, 1 c grapefruit juice
AM snack: banana & milk
Lunch: don't know (this is tea party time)
PM snack: missed (ballet time)
Supper: I'll think about that

Goals:
1. water (has been really bad)
2. bookwork
3. loose ends before leaving
4. pack
5. have fun with DD8

Gotta go take her to church. I will post my progress when I get back.

Everyone have a great Sunday! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

I cannot believe that it has been so long since I did a progress report. The last one I found was a 3 month one, but I thought I had done a 4 mo. Maybe that was wishful thinking. Anyway, I need to remember where I am going and begin to break my goals down again.

Well, it has officially been 8 months since taking the WISH challenge and I am still here. Sometimes I wonder why, but obviously losing weight is still important to me.

Lately, I have been struggling to get beyond the "maintenance" point. I have not really lost much weight in the last couple of months, nor have I lost inches. I have definitely taken my "new" life by storm and hardly slow down long enough to breathe let alone pay attention to my wieght loss journey. The up side? I am more productive than I used to be. The down side? Learning to find a balance again so that I have time to focus on myself.

What I know now:
1. Exercise is still more likely to happen when I get up early.
2. My AM snack is still very important for maintaining a good day.
3. Taking time to plan meals works the best.
4. Going to bed early can make a difference in how I do for eating the next day.
5. Staying busy is key, but too busy can do you in.

Things I have learned:
1. I CAN stick to a weight loss plan.
2. Weight loss slows down when life is hectic if you don't make it a priority.
3. Every day is a new start.
4. Having support is what has kept me going.
5. I can still find excuses for not exercising.
6. When I am tired, I still make very bad decisions and lose my productivity.
7. An occasional GREAT treat is much better than a mediocre treat that occurs more frequently.
8. You have to get rid of the "too bigs" for this program to really work.
9. Using Fitday.com got to be a big hassle, but it really helped me stay the course so to speak.
10. I can change my health and physical ailments.
11. I can convince myself that abandoning good sense eating is alright since DH doesn't pay attention, so why should I
12. The healthy eating of my family lies with me, no getting around that.

Things that changed:
1. My energy increased and I no longer need naps.
2. I enjoy shopping for myself again.
3. I can wear a regular size 16 pants and a L shirt.
4. I love shopping again and did some shopping sprees, something I haven't done in a long long time.
5. I tend to make better food choices with less thought when going out.
6. I rarely snack in front of the TV.
7. I am taking better care of myself.

Things I still need to work on:
1. EXERCISE. This is the one thing that I can easily "forget".
2. I STILL need to prepare some suppers ahead of time for quick fix nights.
3. Eating in my office, gets me every time.
4. Making more time for myself to focus on my journey.

This starts my ninth month. I thought I would be alot further by now, in fact almost to goal, but I am not. This hasn't made me want to quit, but I have been a bit discouraged by it. I began the program at 230 lbs. At the 3 month mark I was 209. Right now, I am at 188. My total loss since beginning the program is 42lbs.

I have revised my original goals to reflect my weight loss. Remember the original was to be at goal by Thanksgiving. A little extension is in order.

1. 2lbs lost by Thanksgiving
2. 12lbs lost by Christmas
3. 20lbs lost by Feb 1
4. 28lbs lost by Mar 10. I year with WISH
5. 38lbs lost by Easter!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hit the goal!!!!!!!!!!!
5. A new me by my birthday!

Actually, it is pretty cool that I have come this far. This is the furthest that I have come any other time that I tried losing. People are complimenting me all the time and I feel good. Taking a year to lose 80 lbs is not an unreasonable thing. I guess I just put too much pressure on myself sometimes. The goals for the next few months are very attainable.

Back to some mini-goal rewards.
1st (starting over) mini goal reward: A manicure when I lose 3 lbs.
2nd mini goal reward: A day to relax, read, pamper myself, do anything I want and nothing that I have to do. 8 more lbs.

Somehow, I feel a little better now. Journaling is very important, but having some goals makes a world of difference. It is great to stop long enough to look back and see where I am heading and where I have been. Thank you everyone for your support.

I really enjoyed spending the day with DD8 yesterday. We had fun at the tea party. Then it was on to the ballet where she was glued. She definitely has her mother's taste for fine living (wish I had the money to go with it, but that is another story).

When I got home I had not such good news. An old boyfriend passed away and the funeral is today. I knew it was coming but it is always supposed to be later. So I spent a good deal of the evening catching up with an old friend.

After that, I cleaned a huge chunk of my office.

AM snack was missed. Lunch was 1/2 PB sandwich (turtle tea party sandwiches), Chesire Cat cheese, Queen of Hearts tarts, 6 grapes, a strawberrry and tea. I shared a glass of Pepsi w/DD8 at intermission. By the time we were headed home we were starving so we stopped at McD's, the only place on the way home. I had a qtr lbr w/cheese, fries, and sprite. Yes, I ate it all. At home, I had a couple bites of DH's steak and a few goldfish. Not alot of food, but lousy on water.

Breakfast: bowl of basic 4 cereal
AM snack: banana & milk
Lunch: soup
PM snack: veggies & cheese
Supper: something quick

Goals for day:
1. finish tying up loose ends
2. finish packing
3. water

I have already cleaned the kitchen this morning, straightened up, laundry, and took care of a few odd things. Let's hope the day stays productive.

Time to get going. I probably won't be back on until Wednesday night. Everyone have a great week! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Sounds like you and DD8 had a very fun day yesterday. I imagine it's very nice to get an extended amount of time to focus on one child, when there's so much activity with the whole family.

Good for you for getting your progress report done. I know you've been wanting to do it for a while and I bet it feels good to have it out there. The process of thinking through all of that is very therapeutic.

I hope you have a great day and a fun trip to Chicago. If you take 88 in, wave to me as you pass Orchard Rd!

Hi Lesli!

Glad to hear you had a nice time with your DD. And also so great to read your progess report. Very thoughtful and insightful on your part. Great job!!! :) I am sure you can do it!!

Mike :goodvibes

Hi Lesli! Looks like a picked a good time to stop in and say hi- great progress report!!! Very motivational. When you put it down in words, it's amazing to see how much you have learned and accomplished. It really is an amazing journey you've taken, not only with your body but also your mind and soul. Congratulations.

Tea and the ballet!!! I so wish I could have been there- sounds like a great day! I haven't been to the theatre in monthes (tight budget lately), but I just might find the funds for a trip to see the Nutcracker this Dec.

Hope you have a great week!!! :)

Hi!

Glad to see you made it home all right. I hope you had lots of fun at the training!

Stay warm! :cold:

I'm back and I want to know who asked for this frigid weather? I am jealous of those going to WDW in a few weeks.

The training was fast paced, fun, overwhelming, interesting, tiring, nothing revolutionary, but yet something that very few practice. The gist of it: teach people more about your organization and why they should care, cultivate them, don't pressure them to give, and then when they do....treat them right, most often a simple thank you goes along way. Sounds like something I have been saying for a long time but no one listened. You know those cold calls will get you real far. Oh well. Following this model (which is actually more extensive than outlined above) should bring in some good funds for GS and help us build a stronger program. Then I am taking it to the Library Board since we really need to do some work there.

Food Monday was not great. Had the soup for lunch. Then had some goldfish and some ho-hos. Can't remember what else. Then supper was really good. Salad, angel hair pasta topped w/chicken, garlic, broccoli, mushrooms, and a few other veggies. Just something I came up with. Really late, I had some M&M's because I was way past bed time and very hungry. We didn't get to the hotel until almost midnight.

The food at the convention was so delicious, I thought I was in heaven. Tuesday breakfast was pineapple (bitter), honey dew melon, strawberries, sm blueberry muffin, 1 hard boiled egg, and tea. Lunch began with a spinach and strawberry salad with stawberry vinegrette followed by the main course which was a rice mixture and some other grains, grilled veggies like peppers, onions and such, 2 sm chicken breasts in a cream sauce that had a hint of cheese and topped with onion, corn and grapes. Very will presented. They also had various rolls. Dessert was a fairly large tart sitting on raspberry sauch and whipped cream. Then inside of the tart was coated with chocolate, filled with vanilla cream and topped with various fruit. It was so good and worth every bite. PM snack was a banana and a brownie with coconut and nuts. For supper we went to the steakhouse in the hotel called Delaney & Murphy's. For anyone in the area (Sheraton hotel, Arlington Heights), you must try out this restaurant. Little pricy but excellent. I had the house special which was a beef tenderloin marinated for 24 hrs and then served with a carmalized shallot cream sauce. It literally melted in your mouth. It was served with yokon gold mashed potatoes and cooked spinach w/mushrooms. Very well presented and very delicious. Had 2 glasses wine. Oh and a dark rye bread w/raisins, delish.

Wednesdays breakfast was pretty much the same except I skipped the pineapple and I had more hot tea. AM snack was 1 hard boiled egg. Lunch was a turkey sandwich on a huge roll, potato salad with a really creamy sauce, and some pasta salad that was ok. That was followed by a generous slice of carrot cake. PM snack was 1 white choc macadamia cookie and 1 peanut butter w/choc chunks cookie. Both were good and I didn't really need them, but they were there. I didn't have supper until really late last night and I ate potato soup.

All in all the convention was fun, but I am glad to be back home.

Gotta go. I will post more about the day, but for now I need to go carve turkeys for the GS Investiture dinner tonight. Almost everything is set up and ready to go.

Thanks for stopping by Christin, nice to see you again.
Everyone have a great day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Getting caught up on your journal and it looks like you have some good mini-goals there. I KNOW you can hit those!!!!!

I have heard that Delaney and Murphy's is good (that's not far from me). Sounds like you had a good time!!!

Hang in there my friend. You can do this!
Take care
Keep on
Chris

Thanks for stopping by Chris!

Yesterday was such a whirlwind with getting ready for that GS dinner. It went really well though and we appx 130 people. Everything ran real close to on time and considering the past, I couldn't ask for anything more. People seemed relaxed and in a genuinely good mood. Many of them even stayed to help clean up which was a big plus over the previous years. DD16 was presented with her Silver Award and our pull together at the last minute silent auction did pretty well considering. Of course, I spent the day running back and forth setting up, cooking turkeys, carving, making sure all the final details were taken care of etc. That should be exercise, but at least I was busy.

Food wasn't the best, though. Breakfast was Raisin Bran. AM snack was missed. As soon as I was about to get lunch, I had to go carve turkeys, so I had a few tastes (had to make sure it was moist ;) ), then when I got home, it was a short free for all. I ate some cookies and some cheetos and I think something else. Supper was a sm portion of turkey and potatoes and a salad. A couple of bites of dessert. Much later in the evening, I had a couple of chips and some snack cakes. This is not good.

Today, I was up early to go pick up DD18 and bring her back for Thanksgiving break. We did a little shopping on the way home. Now she, DH, and D16 are up at the first basketball scrimmage.

Food has been so so. Lots of processed. Breakfast was Basic 4, followed by a sausage biscuit from McD's and part of a hash brown and some sprite. Kind of an early AM snack. DS was crying that he was hungry and so I stopped, but then he didn't want it. I should have let it go. Lunch was late and was chicken teriyaki from Subway. Supper was taco dip/salad w/tostitos and a piece of cherry pie. Also, I had 3 pieces of Godiva chocolate. So much more than I normally have, so I need to put them away.

Well, I need to go. I am going to clean of the daybed in my office and put on brand new bedding. It's going to have a luxury feel and look. That should definitely keep me from stacking on it and give me a sense of comfort for reading.

Everyone have a good weekend. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Didn't get that new bedding on. DD18 wanted to watch Monster in Law, so DD16 and I sat and enjoyed the movie with her. It's nice to have her home.

I did eat some popcorn late last night and ate some cookies as well. Time to turn this ship around and get better control on this snacky eating.

Breakfast: basic 4 cereal and 1 c grapefruit juice (in a bit of a hurry)
AM snack: will be missed
Lunch: probably Subway or pizza with be the choices
PM snack: cheese & veggies
Supper: either the chicken & broccoli ring or a fresh batch of chili or potato soup.

Goals for day:
1. water - this is seriously lacking and I have 2 to 3 lbs that could go away easily if I concentrated on this one little thing
2. Focus on foods that are healthy, not eat because they are there
3. bookwork tonight
4. deep cleaning of a couple of rooms in the house later this afternoon

I need to go get cleaned up. DD16 and another GS need to be driven up to the very first Girl Planning board meeting for this Council. We are hoping that it has a good turn out of girls to get things started. These girls will have some say in what programs are done.

Everyone have a great day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Wow! You've been nice and busy these last few days! I'm glad to hear you had a good time at the convention and felt it was worthwhile.

Congrats to your DD16! That's such a great accomplishment and it sounds like the dinner went well, so congrats to you, too!

I hope you have fun this week with DD18 home. I know you all will have lots of fun together.

Have a great day! :sunny:
