OK, has anyone snuck out and taken a peek yet? I did about 30 minutes ago. Nothing going on here yet. :(

Actually I think I did see one shooting star but I don't think it had anything to do with the Leonids. I'm not even sure Leo has crested the horizon yet. :confused3

It took about 10 minutes for my eyes to get use to the dark. Even though I consider this area super dark, it really isn't. Light pollution.... it's just about everywhere. ::mad::

Going to give it another shot around 9:30 to see what's happening then.

ETA: I just found out the Leo rises around here at 11:30 EST.

Really good article:
More on the Leonids

I am so mad!! There are so many clouds out tonight, i wont be able to see anything! It has been cloudy all day, so i think for us its not going to be a good night for the leonids.

Thanks...maybe just what I need to get my sick 15yodd up to take her meds and get some food.:thumbsup2
She loves the sky as much as I do.

I must say I am out of the loop.

The first thing I thought of was the Vegas show-man from "America's Got Talent". The one that wore pink and platform platform shoes. Wasn't his name Leonid?

I need to pay more attention to astronomy news. :guilty:

But I have a lot of street lights here too. Clear sky so far, what direction should I look? Last time it was North to East I believe? :confused3

there was a low cloud ceiling about 9:00 p.m., I could barely see any stars. :confused3 I'm going to take the dog out again and try again.

Nights like this I'm glad I live in the country, no street lights in my area. :thumbsup2

nope still a lot of clouds, but I could see more breaks this time...no meteors though. I'll go back out in another hour.

Does anyone know if we will be able to see this in Tennessee?

In Chester Springs, PA. Mostly cloudy, but with a few breaking areas. Maybe we will see something :confused3

It's strange here in South FL. It's cloudy, but all the clouds seem to be around the amazing display of stars. There are so many of them and they are so bright! Do the stars seem exceptionally bright tonight to anyone else?

Earlier there were heavy clouds, then it cleared to an AMAZING sky. Unfortunately, there are some light clouds moving back in. DD and I will be going out in about 45 minutes, hopefully we'll see something....she is so excited. Happy wishing to all :tinker: pixiedust:
