Lenses You Want Made

What lenses do you want made for your camera? Not fantasy lenses like a 10mm-1,000mm f/1.2 IS DO zoom that fits in your pocket. I'm talking about lenses that exist for other brands, have existed, or seem extremely possible.

For Canon, I'd love to see something like the Nikon 200-400 f/4 VR. I played with a friends at my son's soccer game this morning and it was incredible. It's a bit on the bulky side and it's spouse terrifyingly expensive, but it's a really great lens. I'd love to have one of these for my August trip to the mountains. I don't think I'd bring it to WDW though.

I'd also like to see an equivalent of the Nikon 14-24mm. Canon's widest zoom is 16-35mm and it is no where near as nice optically. Many Canon shooters are buying adapters to use this lens on their cameras. I'm tempted, but I don't shoot wide that often.

The Nikonian pictured above lusts after the Canon 85mm f/1.2. He does occasional wedding and bridal photography and it's a great lens for that. Nikon has an 85mm f/1.4, but it's an ancient lens with a screw drive AF. He's hoping that they update it and then he'll buy it even if it is still an f/1.4. I rented the Canon version and, while I thought it was pretty cool, it's not a lens worth $1,850 to me.

I also like the new Nikon Speedlight. I don't remember the exact name, but it's a "900". I like the ability to zoom to 200mm. That can be really handy.

So what do you want that isn't available for your system?

I'd love to see a Canon 24-105 L f2.8 with IS. Finally put to death the questions of, "do I get the 24-70 2.8 no IS or the 24-105 f4 with IS?"

I would love it if Nikon would do a new version of the 18-200 and make it faster and optically better. I know there is a trade off of distance and speed.

Mark... Sounds like you need to get you a NIKON!!!:):)

I do have the SB-900 and it is a really nice tool.

It is intersting Mark you mentioned the Nikon 200-400 4.0 VR. Nikon's gap in providing a reasonably fast focus 400mm, image stablized lens in the 1k-2k price range is why I bought a Canon 40D. I know Nikon has a lens in that range but its rep was slow focus. You could buy a 40D and a Canon 100-400 IS L for less than Nikon's 4.0 monster.

If I was (and I am) a Nikon owner, I would want a better offering of telephoto lenses for different uses and price ranges. Canon has so many choices.

If I was (and I am) a Canon owner, I would want an updated, wider L zoom than the 16mm-35mm with a filter size of 77mm NOT 82mm. All I need is to buy a new set of expensive filters. I shoot wide with my Nikon D200.

i'm easy to please. i just want a good sharp 17 (ish) - 70 (ish) f2.8 IS at around $400-500. they don't have to stick an l on it, just make it spectacular iq

Wow, that lens is a beast! It looks like the case on his back could fit a set of golf clubs! Any chance of seeing some pics from that lens Mark?

I'd like a Canon 18--200 with f/2.8 and "L" series glass.

I doubt we will see one. That range tends to be more in the "consumer" quality vs. the pro quality. But, who knows, maybe they will be able to expand on what they have. The question is whether marketing will let them! :lmao:

For the most part I am pretty happy but I would like to see a few lenses upgraded-

80-400mm VR needs AF-S
300mm AF-S needs VR
180mm AF-D needs AF-S and VR

I would like to see an updated 85/1.4 also- but just so I could get a bargain on one of the old AF-D models. From what I have read there is not much focus speed difference on a pro body when they recently upgraded the 50/1.4 and for what I use shorter primes for that slight difference is no big deal to me.

I wish I could get a Sony/Minolta A-mount version of the Nikon 28mm F1.4. That's pretty much my wish list for lenses not made in Minolta mount.

I also wish Nikon would come up with a few more 18-xxx f3.5-5.6 DX Zoom Lenses. All they have now is the 18-55, 18-70, 18-105, 18-135, and 18-200. What I am hoping for soon is an 18-93, 18-121, and 18-163.5 to fill in the gaps.

I'd like a Canon 18--200 with f/2.8 and "L" series glass.
my thinking is if they just put in good glass but don't say "L" it stays in the manageable price range. someone posted a plane( sorry forget who) with the 50-250 that impressed me...course it isn't as low light but the iq appears to be there. now they just need to do that with a better aperture. i'd be more than willing to change my lens one time if i had to to get the 17(18)-50+50-250 range :rotfl:

The only thing that Canon has, that I wish Nikon would follow suit on, is the 50mm and 85mm f1.2L - specifically the 85mm.
I'd also love a newer update of the 70-20 f2.8.
Oh and I wish lensbaby would come out with a lens that has autofocus - I love my composer, but I really am terrible at locking in manual focus!

I'd like to see the Canon pop-up flash work as a Commander to wirelessly trigger Canon Speedlights with E-TTL so I don't have to buy another darn piece of $250+ gear.

I'd like a Canon 18--200 with f/2.8 and "L" series glass.

This lens will never exist for any camera maker. Because of the f/2.8 and the diamater the lens will need to be, the focal length has to be short, 3x zoom. If this lens did exist it would be about the size of the the Nikon 200-400mm f/4 that Mark posted the picture of (look at the size of just the 70-200mm f/2.8's, now you still have to add the 18-70mm size and the 24-70mm f/2.8's alone are almost as large as the 70-200's).

There isn't to much that I need that I would like to see. Though maybe for the middle of the road crowd, I'd like to see more f/4 lenses. Canon has quite a few, but Nikon has almost none. I do have an OLD 70-210mm f/4 (released in 1985 IIRC).

F/2.8 Nikon and Canon lenses are very expensive. Thus many of us will go the Sigma, Tamron, Tokina route.

I also like Canon's 100-400mm L lens. Not great speed wise, but very nice optically and not overkill on the price. Nikon's 80-400mm is old and slow focusing and even the old VR is slow. Guess thats why I went with an older Tamron 200-400mm f/5.6 (for less than $200 used).

I think a lot of us Nikon types would like to see a quality tele zoom in a constant f/4 configuration, with VR, in a price range that more of us can afford. The 70-200 f/2.8 VR is an awesome lens, but is out of the reach of most amateur shooters. If there were a 70-200 (ish) f/4 VR in the $1K-$12.K range, I think it would be quite popular.
