lense strategy

I have a vest and love it but have not used it at WDW due to heat. Those of you who use vests - have you used them on really hot days and how do they feel? Mine is pretty heavy so I'm not sure I could deal with it in the heat.

As for the original question, my camera is around my neck usually with the 24-70mm f/2.8 L on it. In my backpack (a normal one, not a photo one) are my 70-200mm f/2.8 L and my 50mm f/1.4. The first 2 have their polarizer filters on them. The ones in the backpack are typically sitting on top of our ponchos so are protected and reasonably easy to get to. Extra memory cards are in a pocket of the backpack. I make sure my battery is charged and since it lasts a super long time, I don't need to carry a second unless we're going to be at the park all day and night without going back to the room.

I'll get right on that, around the time that I start gaining a bunch of weight and getting shorter. :)

Here is the battery/memory card wallet and here is the filter wallet. The battery/memory card one is very cool - I hadn't thought seriously about one before since I was happy to just toss 'em in the front of my memory card, but I'm glad I got this. It works well, and I also moved my Spudz microfiber cloth-in-a-pouch to hang off the zipper rather than the neck strap on my camera.

I'm not sure about all of them, but probably. Mine is the Pro Loop Strap. It has quick-release buckles a few inches from the camera connections, and you can unbuckle the main part of the neck strap and buckle the short dangling pieces together. I then wrap that around my hand and hang on to the grip of the camera. Not really a 100% wrist strap, but it works pretty well. It's hard to describe, I can post pictures if you like.

I was just reminded of it as I was looking at the pictures of the wife and son and I with Captain Jack Sparrow, and I have my shirt stuck over the lens pouch and the remaining neck strap, which I'd buckled together over my belt. :lmao:

Very cool. I'm definately going to get me one of the Op/Tech straps. I'll check them out at a local shop tomorrow after work. Thanks for the link on the battery/memory wallet. I'll look for that at the camera shop too.

As for point 1. you'll definately have to gain a bunch of weight, but wont have to get much shorter.

Kyle, if you have a hard time finding them, let me know and I'll take a couple photos to demonstrate what I'm describing.

As for vests, the other problem (besides heat) at WDW is all the water hazards - you definitely wouldn't want to ride Splash Mt, Kali River Rapids, Grizzly River Run, etc wearing one with your gear in the pockets, but there's also places where you might not expect to get wet, like the spitting camels, etc.

The latter are something to be wary of with any camera, but the wet rides are usually no problem for your average camera bag, which usually can be zippered tight and have flaps over the zippers; not so with the vest.

Still, I can definitely see the appeal - anything to spread the weight around is a good thing.

I use a Canon XT with Canon's:
50mm f1.8
28-135 IS
70-300 IS
I like the overlap of the IS lenses. I do not have to change lenses as much since the long one goes a little wide and the shorter one goes a little long.

I use the lowepro rezo 160 bag. It is water resistant as is but even more with a stowed wrap that you can pull out to cover almost the entire bag. See the photos in the link above. It is also top loading and will fit my cam with the 70-300 attached and the two other lenses.

I use my vest all the time including mid JUly carshows which can be hotter than WDW, at times it seems a little hot, but I always wear as light a short as possible under it, and being 100% cotton and having the mesh lining and venting it isnt too bad..

I don't do water rides so that's not a vest issue for me, but if I wanted to, I'd throw a ponch on to cover all..

I always keep one in the vest just incase of sudden rain strorms..

if I'm going on a shoot on a day calling for serious rain I have a heavier poncho from kmart that fits oin the back pocket of the vest..

SharonLowe, do you wrap your lenses in anything to protect them from banging up against each other? :scared1:
