Lens Rental Company / Which Lens to Rent

What is the cost of that service? I never want to be without my body!!! Hmmm.... halloween coming up, I am taking pictures of my friend's family on 11/11, then I guess I could go without it for a bit after that....

Both lenses were still under warranty so they didn't charge for it. I only had to pay to securely ship it all there. They paid the return shipping.

Not really got any useful advice on lenses for the OP but I've just booked my lens for next trip with Kingdom Camera Rentals. They have had really good reviews and have been extremely helpful with my barrage of questions over the past weeks. They also had the best price by a mile and I like the fact that they deliver and collect so there isn't the hassle or any added risk involved with shipping.

I'm going to try and do some research tomorrow......I was telling DH about possibly renting the lens and his response - well if you can sell the Sigma for $300-$400 and you're going to send $150 renting it....it is only another $400-ish for the 17-55/2.8....eek, he said just buy it. But then he said, what is the next step in that range of lenses (basically is there a $1000-$1200 lens that I'm going to want to "upgrade" to in 2 years?) So that is my question to you folks...if you had $1000-$1200 to spend on a new lens...what would you look at? Knowing that I use a 50mm/1.4 and mainly take pictures of a 2 1/2 year old....and in low-light inside (I think a must is a static f/stop, not a range)?

okay I lied, I did some research tonight...what do you guys think about this lens? That 1.8 is soooo tempting and it is actually the same cost. Will I miss the 35-55 zoom range? Is the trade off to get the 1.8 from the 2.8 worth that loss?

I'm thinking of renting it in November for when I am going to be taking pictures of a friend's family......

It's supposed to be a pretty awesome lens. I considered renting that for our trip as well. But 2 things held me back: 1) that additional reach and 2) it's fairly heavy for a walk-around lens at 1.78 pounds.

If you do decide to give it a try, I'd love to see some photos when you get back. I was back and forth and back and forth on that one. I kept imagining shooting the Christmas parade with that lens.

for me (i stress that). the 18-35 1.8 would be a specialty lens and not an everyday walk around. I would find the focal length way to limiting for normal shooting. I absolutely love my 17-50 but find that I often want more then the 50.

Also dont get hung up on the 2.8. Get want works best for you. There are very few times I shoot at 2.8. Indoors I usually shoot with a flash (when not at Disney).

You have said before you want to move to Full Frame at some point so maybe consider the 24-105L f4. Yes you will lose the 17-23 on the low end but you wont have to see a lens when moving to FF. You can get the 24-105 new for around 700 if you look around. Many places are removing these from 5diii kits and selling them as separates.

Something to think about.

Lastly, getting 300-400 for your 17-70 may be asking alot. I would be lucky to get 400 for my 17-50 which is a far superior lens and it does not have a focusing issue. If you knowingly sell a lens that may have an issue I would be pretty upset if i was the buyer.

That amount was based on what I used lenses selling on eBay.
I'm testing the lens and will send it in for repair before selling. I would never knowingly sell a lens that is not in tip top shape. That is my fear of purchasing used so I would never do it myself.

There is a new version of this lens. Make sure that price is for the version you have and not the new Contemporary version.
