Length of stay tickets with split stay

Before I call WDW and deal with the horrendous phone wait times I've been hearing about, I thought I would ask the knowledgeable people of the DIS. We love split stays. In the past, I've always booked the first part of our stay as a package with a ticket covering the length of our trip (e.g. 5 night hotel stay with 9 day tickets), followed by a room only reservation for the remaining nights. Now when I attempt to book a package, it will not let me buy a ticket for longer than the length of the stay of the first reservation. I was planning to call Disney to see if the might be able to change the ticket to one with more days with my package purchase, but wanted to check to see if anyone has any experience with this/knows if it's possible. Thanks in advance!

A Disney TA can also do that for you for no charge and it would be a lot faster and easier than doing it yourself. Mine had my split stay (5 and 2 nights with 7 day tickets attached to first reservation) booked within 30 minutes.

It can definitely be done, but you have to call and have a CM do it.

Good to know it's possible! Thanks so much for the info.

I was told that you can add days to a ticket through the My Disney Experience app. Is this not the case? I’m about to book my split stay as well and am trying to figure out the best way to do it.

Unless there's a package discount, just book two Room Only reservations and buy your tickets separately.

Only if you buy tickets separate. If you book a package (room + tickets) you are limited to length of reservation and any change to the tickets must be done by phone.

Thanks so much for the quick response! I was leaning towards booking tickets separately but wasn’t sure if that would affect getting a dining plan later if Disney brings that option back. Will I still be able to buy that if it returns before our trip in October?

OP here. It was super easy to call and have them change the length of the tickets by phone. I've actually done it twice, as I ended up needing to make a change to the package, which messed up the original ticket change I had done. Most recently I did it about a month ago and my wait on the phone was less than 10 minutes.

You used to be able to book a "ticket less package" that was room+dining. If they bring back the dining plan with similar booking terms, you can book a "basic package" now which is a room-only with package terms for final payment and cancellation, then add dining if it becomes available. That won't work for "free dining" which historically required a minimum ticket purchase as well. Or if they set any different rules about dining packages.

Yes dumb huh? I had same thing. But as you said, if you call it’s done no problem. I couldn’t even do a resort change without the computer trying to change my 10 days length of stays to the 6 for the first leg. But when you call they are like “ yeah sure no problem “. The thing I like about the length of stay is if for some reason we have to cancel or change things that charge is removed along with everything else ( within the cancellation guidelines of course but feel I need to say that or else someone else will feel they need to say….), and am not left with expensive already bought tickets.
