my friend just called me and her kids want to have a lemonade stand and they are wondering what they should charge. have any of your kids done this? how much did they ask? I remember doing this as a kid and it was a lot of fun, but I don't really see them around any more.

Don't know what they should charge these days, but I do know that in my area at least 3 different groups (one was a bunch of 7 year olds!) have been shut down for operating them without a proper license!

I live in the same neighborhood where lots of my students live, so I am forever buying lemonade from their stands! I think I've bought probably 25 glasses of lemonade so far this year.

Most of them sell it for 25 cents, and the cups are probably 8-oz. or so.

In my apartment complex the going rate is 75 cents. lol. I usually just give them a buck. They do give the mailman free lemonade which I think is nice.

I second the $0.25 for an 8 oz cup, that's what I see around here. $0.50 for the exact same thing frozen with a popsicle stick stuck in it. ;)

And I ALWAYS stop for kids' lemonade stands!

The kids across the street had one... Charged $0.10 a cup! Back in the '80's when I had my "business" ;) I charged $0.25! Apparently lemonade has lost its value!

I'd charge $0.25 or $0.50 depending on the cup size.

Same around here! Always stop for a kids stand too. :)

One other thing I would like to add...

Lately I have been seeing a lot of moms jumping into the street and trying to flag down cars in an attempt to bring in business for their kids. PLEASE don't do this! I live in fear that the kids will see the mom doing it and do it themselves when the mom is not around. The consequences could be tragic.

Also, I always stop for the kids in the neighborhood, but when I see moms out there trying to drum up business, it really turns me off. Just my opinion. :) Supervise the kids from a distance, and let the kids do the work--that is half the fun!

Ditto! I'm always around outside or just in the kitchen when they're out with their stand, in case they need help with change or just to keep an eye on them in general, but never do I actually go sit with them or drum up business! I make them prepare everything, set it up, get their change box ready, make their own signs & clean it up on their own - I think that teaches them the value of their work & earnings.

Around here they charge 50 cents a cup. We usually go to Dollar Tree & get the Weylers raspberry & regular yellow & offer both kinds. $1 for a pack that makes 8 quarts. I do make the kids buy the lemonade - hey they have to learn how expenses work & mom isn't giving them a handout! I do give them the plastic cups because I usually get a huge pack at BJ's, and they really don't use that many. Some days they make $2, some they make $25!

I'm going to offer a different response: let the kids figure out what to charge. Look at the cost for lemonade mix, and cups, determine the cost of production, and the desired profit margin.

If my kids ever ask me for help with a lemonade stand, they'll probably hate me ;)

My 6 yo is having one this weekend...she wants to charge $10. She thought that was a good price ;)

I talked her down a bit...our selling point...we have Fresh Squeezed Lemonade with Mint Leaves. She has watched the Max & Ruby Lemonade Stand episode one too many times :rolleyes1

Ice pops (the long ones) are a big seller too. Good time to read "The Lemonade War". :thumbsup2

This might sound wrong, but when i was a kid, and saw someone open a lemonade stand,I would open one and charge less........

I was such a jerk.....
