I just found out Nephew wants legos for Xmas. I have no idea what he has if any. Looking to spend 35.00 ish or less. I don't trust parents to not use gift card for other nonchild things so it needs to be gift.
I have most major stores within driving distance. What would you/ your kids suggest.

There are a couple good starter sets on amazon right now, one for $25 and one for $30. They would be great on there own or added to other sets. The Lego idea book is pretty cool too. It has hundreds of things to build in it, I think it was $15 on amazon.

On another post here, there is info about yoyo.com and you get 40% off one toy, including legos, using code Toy40. I'm out on their website now and there are lots and lots of legos to check out. There is an option to put in the age group and gender you're searching for so that might help. I'm looking at getting the Creator Seaside House for my almost 9 yo DGS as I've never seen that anywhere so it should be new to him. Hint, order something else for under $5(I'm getting the 64 count Crayola crayon set)and you'll get free shipping. I'm paying $33.51 for both.

I have an 8 year old. Anything in the Lego Ninjago or Monster Fighter series are a big hit with his age group.:)
If you look on this forum, someone just posted that YoYo.com (a division of Amazon) has a code for 40% off any full priced item. Check Walmart and Target too:)

**oops Snoozan beat me to it! :)

My DGS is 8 and asked for the Lego Ninjango stuff. My big splurge gift for him was a $140 set at TRU that had a $40 couponT1:cool1: i was thrilled!
Legos can be soooo expensive!

My ds9 loves anything Ninjago or Monster fighters

Although my boys loved the Ninjago legos, they play much more with the City and Creator sets (well the parts at least) - the pieces seem to be more universal once the novelty of the original creation is done.

Mine is also into Ninjago legos. I picked up a nice set from Walmart for $20, but they had a set that was a little bigger around $35. He also likes Star Wars, so I got the Advent calendar when it was on clearance last year and he can use that this year (the calendar itself isn't year-specific, only the box).

Thanks for ideas. I did see post about yoyo.com I was leaning towards Ninjago or star wars myself so sounds like I was on right track. I'll have to see what Dh wants to get him since it's from both of us:) If I had my way I'd just go to lego store and get a box of lego pieces and tell kid have fun.

toys r us has a buy one get one 1/2 price for legos - my sons loves them & though his uncle gives him a model type gift for holidays - i'm getting the parts box & the plate so that he can create on his own -

Except Toys R Us is so grossly overpriced that buy one, get one half off is prett much just paying retail price.

Agreed. I'd rather go to the Lego store vs TRU....at least that way we can earn VIP points!

My 8.5 year old boy is really into the new Hobbit and Lord of the Rings sets right now.

Soon to be 8 year old is asking for Lego Ninjago and Monster fighters. Monster fighters is relatively newer and probably your best bet for being one he doesn't have.

My 8yo is new to Lego sets, we just had a box of basic pieces where you create your own, he is getting two Lego City sets I ordered from yoyo.com. I have seen one of them on a commercial so I think it's fairly new, the Ranger Police Station or something like that. I hadn't heard of them, but I had no problems with them at all and my order came when it was supposed to.

I second the idea of the basic set that he can build anything. These are at TRU. Along with that the Lego Idea book is great-I think Walmart has good prices on it

The Lego website is Out of Stock of A LOT (saying things aren't shipping until after Xmas) so at the moment Toys R Us with the BOGO 50% off seems to be your best bet.

If he already has Lego's I think that a set of some kind is your best bet (my 4 1/2 year old likes the City, Dinosaur and Monster Fighter ones but YMMV with an older kid). If he's new to Lego's all together than I'd go with just a generic set.

Just finished my Yoyo shopping with coupon TOY40 and decided to go with the Lego Creator Log Cabin as it was 1 of the few I could find that was truly a deal and has great reviews. :thumbsup2 It seemed the City Police Station with the coupon came out to the normal Amazon price. I added a dog toy Treatstik and Training Treats with coupon WAG to to get the free shipping and my total for all 3 was less than $35! :goodvibes So far my only Cyber Monday purchases.
