Hi all! I'm looking for a nice hotel within walking distance to legoland. From my research it's between the legoland hotel (a bit too expensive), the Sheraton next door, grand pacific palisades, and a Hyatt. Any advice? We want something nice but the legoland hotel seems to not get fantastic reviews for the price. Also, does anyone know what shopping is close by? This will be an all inclusive holiday and we would rather not drive (husband drives for a living and needs a break). We have done Disney three times and are looking for a quieter relaxing holiday. We will most likely do legoland one or two days, then some a few days of swimming and shopping. One more question, can we walk to a beach from there? What I can gather online it's more of a rocky beach, but even just to have coffee and watch the waves appeals to this land locked Canadian!

We've stayed at Grand Pacific Palisades. We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo unit, it was nicely remodeled and so spacious with a kitchen and dining room. They were overbooked (maybe delays with the remodeling) and our first night was in a hotel room. It was small, bathroom a little dated, and the space next to the bed looked like it hadn't been vacuumed. This was almost 2 years ago, so maybe things have changed.

It's super convenient to Legoland, just cross one street gets you to the edge of the Legoland parking lot. The Carlsbad Outlet is nearby for shopping. We didn't walk there, but looks like it wouldn't be too bad - less than 1 mile downhill past the flower fields.

For swimming, there is the water park at Legoland. GPP also has a pool with a cute water play area if your kids are still small.

The Legoland Hotel is very cute, but yes, often expensive. When it's busy it can be very crowded and chaotic.

Grand Pacific Palisades has a shuttle that will take you within 4 miles. The outlet mall is very close as is Costco. You can walk to the beach, but it isn't that great of a beach right there and the walk back is uphill and will feel very far. You can use Uber/Lyft to get around very easily.

There are lots of choices of hotels/motels in Carlsbad. If you prefer the beach, there are several right on the beach. You could Uber to Legoland from there. There are also many rentals for condos/homes on or near the beach.
