Legoland in Orlando - It's Official

Interesting...we complicated an online questionnaire last Summer that was all about a Legoland attraction in Florida. It asked about how much we would be prepared to pay for a ticket, how far we would travel etc. You could guess that Cypress gardens was the intended location.

I went to the park in California and wasn't all that impressed. It was mostly for little kids. WDW has nothing to worry about in terms of competition.

Disney will always be the biggest on the block, but having additional theme park options outside of Disney are very welcome.

This will be a big hit for the 5 and under set. It may not be a major competitor to WDW, but giving families with smaller children another option may be a differentiator for a subset of people between taking Magical Express and staying on-site and renting a car, staying off-site, and splitting their vacation dollar.

Much (as it always does) will depend on the Legoland pricepoint.

Since Merlin Entertainment's primary shareholder is the Blackstone Group I could see Universal Orlando, Sea World, Aquatica, Discovery Cove, and Legoland all being part of a multiday, multipark ticket. It's kind of interesting how all of this is coming together. You will have WDW as one theme park entity and then all of the other relevant theme parks (Universal, Sea World, Legoland) as part of another entity.
