Any recommendations for dining at Legoland? We've never been and we're doing a one day trip in the middle of our Disney week. Or is there somewhere between Anaheim and Carlsbad that you consider a "can't miss" for dinner on the way home?

Not sure when you are going, but when we did a day-trip to LL (from our Anaheim hotel) the park was not open very late and we didn't want to spend time eating dinner there. I think the park closed at 5 or 6. There are so many restaurants around LL. We ended up at a TGIF, but I wish we had done Macaroni Grill instead. I know there is also a Ruby Tuesday and a Marie Calenders nearby. Happy planning!

We're going on a Monday in mid-May so it will probably be an early closing day. We try to make it a rule on vacation not to eat at places we could eat at home. We're sort of hoping for a local favorite or something between Anaheim and Carlsbad. Unfortunately all my knowledge in SoCal is in LA and San Fernando.

Claim Jumper! located at 5958 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad. You can Mapquest it to see how far it is from LL. This is a small So. Cal. restaurant chain that has really good food, and huge servings. So good!

Okay, I mapquested it and it's only 2.5 miles from LL, just on the other side of the 5 off Palomar Airport Rd. About 7 minutes. :)

Updated, I have pictures!

One of the best desserts ever! I Declair-Baked fresh daily. Sweet pastry filled with a buttery Bavarian custard atop vanilla bean ice cream with hot fudge & homemade whipped cream 9.99 This is just one of the CJ's awesome desserts! Huge servings, so delicious-enough for the whole table to share! When we get this, this is all we get-no entree, just dessert!

We stopped for breakfast but our " can't miss" is Mollie's Country Cafe in Laguna Niguel. The breakfasts were to die for and we can't wait to go back!

On the way home we ate at Los Olas right in Carlsbad. The food was good and the drinks even better!;). The had some great specials so it was very affordable too. After dinner, we walked a block down the street and there was a public access/staircase down to the beach. It was wonderful and the kids loved being at the beach! We watched the porpoises jumping out of the water and there quite a few surfers too! After we climbed back up to the street we stopped and got frozen yogurt. Yum!

Which beach is near las olas?

It was North Carlsbad beach. We walked down Carlsbad Villiage Drive to gain access.

From the city website:
Beaches north of Pine Avenue to the Oceanside border are jointly owned by the state and the coastal property owners along that stretch. All are open to the public, and the City of Carlsbad provides public access to the beach at Carlsbad Village Drive, Grand Avenue, Christiansen Way, Beech Avenue and Rue des Chateaux. Beaches in north Carlsbad do not have lifeguard services, restrooms, showers or other amenities.

FYI Marie Calenders across the way is boarded up. Closed. There are plenty of places around the park to eat if you choose to. Island"s has good burgers and there is a Ruby's in the outlet mall that is a throw back to the 50's malt shop. There is a Claim Jumpers across the fwy along with a Sammy's Woodfire pizza.

ON the way back to LA, you can stop in Carlsbad and eat at Fish House Vera Cruz - very family friendly, good food - HUGE aquarium to look at (not the fish you will be eating, lol) and NOT A CHAIN. 417 Carlsbad village drive - if you like fish, you will LOVE this fish. The sides are just average. The bread is good. Service very friendly.

Try it!
