Got sent this link from a friend, and thought it was extremely weird.

http://www.legolanddiscoverycenter.com/dallasfw/en/plan-your-visit/importantinformation.htm

General:
The LEGOLAND Discovery Center is a children’s attraction and adults will not be admitted to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center unless they are visiting with a child/children.

Never been there, but just what kind of rule is that? Talk about paranoid. I have a couple friends that are childless and HUGE LEGO collectors.

Just wondering if the new LEGOLAND announced for Florida will follow this strange requirement.

Well, it's not for legoland itself, just for the discovery center, which looks to be play center type thing. Legoland is very much aimed toward younger children, with no real thrill rides, though I can certainly imagine adult collectors wanting to visit just to view the elaborate lego buildings. The only real problem I would see with this rule would be for developmentally delayed adults who might very much enjoy a child oriented play area.

After having read a few particular posts where adults whine and complain about the way children have impacted their enjoyment at Disney parks, I can certainly see good reason to leave those people out. The general attitude seems to be, "I paid my admission and any child who impacts my enjoyment should be removed." Who would want to take a child to a play center where some lego obsessed adult was being bothered and annoyed by typical child behavior?

Interesting. I don't think the Discovery Center is an attraction, I think Discovery Center covers the name of the whole park.

In looking at their map, there really isn't anything for adults except for maybe mini land, that might interest an adult Lego fan/collector. It doesn't seem worth the price of the trip and admission though.

Who knows, maybe Legoland has had issues. Last year when my brother took his kids to Sesame Place he said there was a strange guy just wandering around the park by himself. Watching kids on the rides and at the water play area. They ran into him a couple times, he wasn't doing anything, not even taking pictures, but my brother said every time they saw him they saw another guy nearby that my brother thought had to be security. He even said at the time why let in a grown man without any kids?

It is a pretty common rule for places that are made for children, I know the Boston Children's Museum has the same rule. They do make exceptions, such as my friends who were in the Children's Lit program at a Boston school were able to go in and explore for research reasons.

I look at it as there are a lot of places kids can't go to and it isn't considered discrimination. :confused3

If you click on the link by the OP, Legoland Discovery Center is located in a mall in TX. It is not referring to the Legoland parks.

It is a weird world out there.
I know of some libraries that have the same rule for their children's room.

My boyfriend likes graphic novels. The GN are often shelved in the teen area. When we visit other libraries, he will not go in that area unless I am with him. He doesn't want to look "suspect".

Having been to the Legoland Discovery Center in Illinois with my kids, I would say they're doing adults a favor. It is not worth the price of admission for adults on their own, it annoyed me that I had to pay the higher adult admission to accompany my kids. It had barely enough to entertain them, and they're Lego nuts. Unaccompanied adults are not missing anything. If they had this policy at the theme park, I would totally understand people being upset, though. We loved Legoland California!

I emailed them to check

"Our attraction is a children’s attraction dedicated to the creativity and imagination of children roughly up to the age of 12. Adult passes are not sold without being accompanied by a child; however, we will have adult only events throughout the year. These events will be posted on our website."

:thumbsup2 They just built a LEGOLAND Discovery Center near us and it does state ...

We plan to have DS5's birthday party there this year and it does give me peace of mind knowing that not just "anyone" can be in there. It has rides and Lego building areas. It is really geared towards kids. We've been to numerous birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese and that place creeps me out. My kids aren't allowed in the bathrooms there by themselves. :confused3

If this is the child's area of the park and not the park as a whole it kind of makes sense. There are a lot of pedobears out there unfortunately that necessitate this kind of thing.

That's my main issue, assuming that any adult wanting to go in MUST be up to something nefarious. What if I wanted to go in and see what it was like? I might be planning my kids birthday party? People are generally over zealous and paranoid when it comes to things like this.

Paul, I wonder if it is mostly unaccompanied men they worry about? I could go with you, like I have to go to the teen section of the library with my male partner?

If they are worried about all adults and I want to see the place, can I borrow one of your children?

I do understand your concern about the over zealous and paranoid. People are very over-protective. Crazy! How did most of us ever manage to grow up unscathed?

On the other hand, if it is a very child oriented place and adults would be in the way, maybe it makes sense.

In case anyone still hasn't figured it out, LEGOLAND Discovery Centers and LEGOLAND parks are two different things, albeit under the same company.

From the looks of it, the Discovery Centers are something akin to small children's museums - they can build things, see how they work, etc. And they really are geared towards children. Of course, there is a whole lot more (they do have the company behind it - most of the children's discovery museums I've seen survive on donations) that could have interest to adults as well, but they are more kiddie-ride type things.
