Has anyone ever received one of the free mini model sets?
Are they strict about the 6-14 age bracket?
We are going with a 3 (nearly 4) and a 1 (nearly 2) year old.
I know they probably won't give one to the 1 year old but do you think we might be able to get one for the 3 year old?

Thanks for your help!

I'm just going to guess yes. Because of choking hazards. Lego sets have an age range and they don't go below 5 years old on the several I have in my house.

We go every month. The kids do the build themselves at a table. I can't remember seeing little people in there. The choking hazard is a good point, they probably need to cover themselves with that.

lapdmom:

Is it always on the first Tues of the month? (I noticed Oct and Nov was the first Tues...)

Why don't you call them and ask, just so you won't waste your time in line, or be disappointed if they are strict on the age limit.

At my store (Atlanta, GA) they are pretty strict. They won't turn away a kid if they are with their bigger sibling but the youngest I have seen is a 4 year old. I know when I have gone with friends and they had younger siblings, 2 and 3 yrs old, the mom didn't even take them in because they had been before and didn't get the legos.

We are coming from Australia and are not likely to be back for a very long time so we thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.
We'll see how we go. Cross your fingers for us!

If you are going to go- plan to go at least an hour before so that you can line up. We got there half an hour early for october's and the line was already huge- inspite of the rain and a halloween party. Without rain and a big event happening, I would anticipate alot larger turnout. After hearing from the woman in front of us what the procedure was, and that she had never waited less than an hour to get in before- my 9yr old son decided he did not want to participate. So we just left the line and went in and made our large purchase and then left. They only had 20 spots for the minibuild, and could only let that many kids in at a time... something to think about if you have younger sibs that may not like the long wait for a tiny lego figurine.

Good point! Ours is now done that way where only so many kids are let in at a time, probably somewhere between 16-24 and then they build their pieces together and then the next group goes in. Before it was just a free for all. You went in, got your pieces, found a spot in the store and just built. Very cluttered but much faster.

We do usually get there a couple hours ahead of time and wait in line. We've seen the line out there still at 7:00. I think more and more people are learning about it as the months go on.
