Lego City Mining Set $39.97 @ Walmart

Thanks for posting this. I went to 2 Target's today - the 2nd one has more Legos. They had 2 on the shelf so I bought one. Customer service had to do the price match and both the clerk and manager couldn't believe the price but they matched it. I think we're going to keep it until our son's birthday in March since we already got him 2 large Ninjago sets for Christmas.

So our Walmart didn't have any on the shelf so I figured I would try Toys R Us. Went in, they had 3 so I took one up and specifically asked if they were price matching before I grabbed anything else and she looked at it and the add and said that was fine. So I grabbed 3 (1 for my son, nephew and my neighbor asked me to get her one), took them up and the manager then refused to do the override. He said that corporate sent them a memo and he shoved it at me. He was very rude. And I said that if there was such a memo they may want to make sure every one of their employees is aware of it because I specifically went to the register before trying to check out and was told that it was fine. He just walked away. Grrrr.

My mom is trying her Target tonight and I'll try ours on my way to work tomorrow.

You are not alone with your TRU experience (slickdeals.net), Target is your best bet. TRU is my least favorite place to shop.

I'm not surprised. DH said I was expecting too much from them to begin with and my point was I walked up specifically and asked just to avoid this very situation and I was told it was fine. If I had asked and they said, no sorry, we were told we can't match that from our corporate office, it would have been no big deal. So instead I wasted 25 minutes that I could have used to go to Target!

...and now aren't you more likely to shop at Walmart or Target vs. TRU for toys? This is where Walmart was smart about honoring this offer. You will save a small amount of $$$ in the short run, but lose customers, and significantly more $, in the long run.

So glad I jumped on the Budget Board today! Figured I was too late, but looked at WM when I was picking up a few things for dinner. There was a big empty space on the shelf, and the sale sticker marking the spot. Asked an associate if there might still be some in back and he brought out 3! I took 1, a dad who came while I was waiting snagged the other 2. I might see if there are any at Target, it would be nice to put a set away for an Angel Tree gift. Thanks OP!

Just wanted to thank the OP of this. I went to my Walmart and was able to snag one. I took the store add and went across the street to Target and got one more for my nephew. You just made two boys very happy on Christmas morning!

Absolutely! I rarely shop Toys R Us anyway because they're prices are always higher than Target but that really did it for me.

I belong to a LEGO forum where all we discuss is LEGO, of course. And boy is this mess quite the discussion over there!! What we've learned (and what is mostly being discussed right here) is that for the most part shoppers are successful at their local Wal-Mart. Many Wal-Marts, however, are pulling the sets from their shelves and hiding them in the back while waiting for the sale to be over. They are hoping that a customer will come into the store, see the empty shelf and simply leave. Other Wal-Marts never stock the sets to begin with, since it takes up quite a bit of real estate (my local WM belongs to this category). On Monday, TRU sent out the infamous memo declining to offer their price-match policy on the set. Now Targets are catching on and also refusing to price-match, saying that the ad has either typos or the wrong set pictured (the latter is most likely the case). My local Target was out of stock yesterday. So my third option was at Meijer. One was on the shelf, so after a bit of a wait at customer service waiting on a manager, the price match was approved! My nephew will love this set for Christmas and I'll be the best uncle ever!!

My Walmart didnt have any. But my mom lives about an hour away and found me one today in her store. It was the only one and someone had hidden it behind a different Lego set. Yay mom! I'm so happy and my ds will be on Christmas.

Went to my local Walmart today at lunch time. Regular price was $111, on sale for $101. There were 2 sets, so I grabbed them both. Took them to the customer service desk with the ad, and was able to purchase them both for $44.97 (prices higher in Alaska).

Thanks to the OP for giving us all the heads up. This is an awesome set. Will stash it away for Christmas.

My local WM didn't have any, never even got any in ( I actually had a very nice associate, she checked all around the store, checked the backroom and even checked the local inventory...closest place was over an hour away). Fred Meyer price matched for me, so I was able to pick one up for DS7. I shared what a great deal this was with a few of the other bus stop Moms (who I knew would appreciate it :cloud9:).

They did even better than me! :woohoo: Apparently FM is not only price matching but 1 Mom was able to use the 10% off coupon in this week's ad and another was able to use an employee discount, so they picked the set up for even less than the $39.99. One Mom has already taken her receipt back and gotten the additional 10% off (about $4). She suggested I go and get my purchase price adjusted too,so I'm going to take my receipt up tomorrow and see if I can get the 10% off too. Wish me luck!

I went to 2 walmarts, 1 was sold out and the other didn't even carry it. I went to the Target across the street and they were sold out too :(

I have a few more stores to check when I go back to work in a few days, fingers crossed. Thanks for this post.

So I rushed to a nearby Walmart this morning which showed the Lego Set was in "Limited Stock" via online. When I got there the gruff guy working in the Lego area said "we have never had them".....then whey does your online store say "limited stock?" I say. His reply was that the online store and the actual store are entirely separate entities, Really????:scratchin

So I go to customer service and get the same song and dance. I really think they pulled them from the shelves.

I then headed to a Walmart that was actually closer to my house (even though that store said they were "out of stock" online). I asked a young girl who worked there if I could have a "rain check" and she looked at me like I asked the most stupidest ? EVER!!:headache: Apparently they never issue rain checks but how would I know....I have never before asked for one. I was then so mad, I reported her to the Customer Service person at the front...at least he seemed concerned that she was speaking to customers that way but could do nothing for me relative to the Lego sets other than to tell me that their store has 4 on order and to call each morning.....

In between I checked out two Target's nearby and neither had them instock but at least they confirmed that they would have price matched if in fact they had them in stock. And they also took the time to check their inventory for me in a very pleasant manner.

I never really understood why Walmart has such a bad reputation but now I do.

I went to Walmart today and got a raincheck for the legos. I took in the ad that reads on the back they do issue rainchecks for items that aren't "limited offer" or "bonus buy."

The first lady I asked said they don't issue them, but the manager behind her said they did. When I told them the normal price, the first lady insisted I had the wrong set and there was no way it would be that price. The toy manager agreed with me and said their lay-a-way department is full of the lego sets.

So, they do offer rainchecks, but you may have to go up the chain a little bit if the first person says they don't.

I went to WM this morning. DIdnt see a spot for it, and wasnt sure what I was really looking for, so I went and got an ad. However, I didnt see it in there. Can anyone send me a pic of what Im looking for?

Or can someone please tell me where it is at in the ad?

Assuming it is the same ad everywhere...You want the ad with the Halloween stuff on the front cover (my store had a couple different ads :confused3). Page 18 bottom right corner.

If you just want to look at it you can go online to Walmart click on the weekly ad link and go to page 18 there too.

HTH

ETA-IMO, picture doesn't do it justice. This set has over 700 pieces and the box is about the size of the bottom of a shopping cart.

I was going to post that you should try getting a raincheck at Walmart. It looks like somebody else posted that too. I did that this morning after being told that they don't do them, a manager did approve one. I was told that it might not do me any good since it is a "deleted item" and they won't be getting any more. I said I would take my chances and get a raincheck anyways. I believe that they will have them in after all this mess is cleared up. My local Meijers said that they will NOT honor it since it was an error. I will try that tomorrow though, since they should be getting them in. Good luck and be persistant.
