Okay I am interested in getting my legs waxed for my upcoming vacation. The lady told me that I would have to let the hair grow out for 3 weeks for the waxing to actually be effective. 3 WEEKS, how am I going to be able to handle 3 weeks without shaving. Does it really have to be 3 weeks and if so what do you do in 100 degree weather and not wearing shorts, skirts or dresses?

3 weeks?!? WOW! I don't know if I could go that long... No solution here, sorry. I'm just bumping! :)

The trick is to start waxing in the winter ;)

Agreed. I got my legs waxed in January for my first cruise in April. Plenty of time to hide my hairy legs under long pants. As for now, its going to be very difficult. They usually recommend growing the hair out for 3 weeks because it is at an optimum length to remove the whole folical (at least that is what I was told). I'm glad I did it because my hair grows so fast and on vacation I have to shave everyday!

Good luck! :goodvibes

I want to subscribe to this thread too. I just made an appointment to get my legs waxed. It will be 2 weeks for growing out my hair. We are leaving for the beach soon after, so I can't wait any longer. :sunny:

I don't know what I am going to do w/ wearing shorts. We have Bible school at church this week and it is way to hot to wear jeans, so I guess I will just go w/ the shorts and hope no one gets to close to my legs!!!

My IL's are giving me a gift certificate to the salon for my birthday. I don't care if it hurts, I will just be so happy to not have to shave and to have smooth legs!!!!!! :cool1:

Just curious, how long does a waxing last? How long can you go w/out shaving? Will they do your whole leg? Like calf and thigh? I shave my entire leg but I had a friend who only did her calf? :confused3

It all depends on how fast your hair grows. Mine grows very fast unfortunately. That means in about a week and a half I can have hair long enough for a wax. You can decide how much of your leg you want done. Some do the bottom half only, some do full leg (which usually includes a french bikini) When I wax I'm good for about two and a half weeks. Some can go up to four.

For the summer, I just decided to shave my legs since it's too difficult to wait for the hair to grow out.

However, I am doing the bikini wax. I just forgo the days to the pool until I'm waxed.

FYI, if you go when you're PMS'ing, take some ibuprofen about 45 minutes prior. It hurts more during PMS.

I am just doing the bottom half of mine. The hair on the top part of my legs is very light and I could shave that before we leave on vacation and not have to worry about it.

I have a friend who got hers done in May at the same place I am going to and they said it is supposed last about 6 weeks.

Wow I have never heard it lasting 6 weeks, wouldn't that be nice!!!! Well I made an appointment for July 31st to get my lower leg and a bikini wax. If I have an allergic reaction at least I will have a few days to heal before going to Vegas. If I do good, I also set up another appointment for September 1st, the day before I leave for FL for 15 days!!! We shall see!!!!

Pooh_Friend#1, I have my appointment on July 27. I will let you know how it goes. I thought about the bikini wax, but I am to chicken. I am just going for the lower legs.

Another solution: get an epilator! I worship mine :worship:
Some brands/models are much better than others, though.

Yes, please let me know!!! I would appreciate it!!

epilator - how much does it cost, do they really work? I don't know much about an epilator.

Yes, you have to let your hair grwo long enough. I once went when it wasn't long enough, and it just didn't "wax off". Money spent for nothing, and I could go again 10 days later... The trick is to have your legs waxed a couple of times during the winter, and then use an epilator during the summer. After a couple of waxes, the hair doesn't come back as much as before, so I use my epilator to "touch up" during the summer.
I have a Philips Satinelle, and I'm planning to buy a Braun X'Elle (but they didn't have it in stock anymore, in every store of the chain, must be quite popular!)

You have to be careful about going out in the sun the day after the wax, I did it once, and had some sort of allergic reaction because of it.

Question: what is a French bikini wax? And in what way does it differ from a Brazliian or Hollywood bikini wax?

For the love of granolas, I feel like a non-woman! I do not know any of the answers to your last question, nor have I ever been waxed. I know want to do it to get in touch with my feminine side. It actually sounds like you have found a good system. I am going to follow your regimen and google elipator and buy one! Unfortunately, I just shaved with my quattro this am....

I am lucky, as I am blond, so even if I let my leg hairs grow for 3 weeks, no one will see them.....but they won't want to touch them.....EEEEK!

Now, someone has to rate the pain on a scale of one to ten of the bikini waxing.... :confused3

What brand do you have/like?

The Emjoi Optima. It's "double" so you actually have two rollers of tweezing bits working at the same time. For the uninitiated, it's an electronic handheld thingymabob that you roll on your leg (or whatever other body part; heck, I use it to get my pesky belly hairs), and the 36 "tweezers" move mechanically and yank the hair out. It's private, it's not one bit messy unlike waxing, and it's yours to keep so you can use it for years. Good investment, especially for those of us that are fuzzier than others :sad2: This one is around $100, I've had cheaper ones but they hurt and didn't work nearly as well.

First time I ever got an epilator, it came in the mail. My then-boyfriend opened the package, and while I looked on amused, tested it on his own leg complete with long man-hair. The expression on his face was priceless. Men are such babies! :confused3 :rotfl:

Since we are talking about hair removal (I hope the OP doesn't mind me throwing in a question), anyone willing to share their opinion on Nair? I prefer waxing over shaving, but am curious whether this product really works.
