Hi! :goodvibes

I never had my legs waxed before :scared1: and I'm seriously considering doing it a few days before our trip. I already started letting it grow; it's not pretty! :rotfl: We're leaving December 10th so that should be plenty of time for ample growth.

My question is - has anyone done this before going? I tend to get really bad razor bumps on my thighs which results in me not being able to shave two days in a row. So, I was hoping this would rectify the problem so I could be more confident sitting by the pool with my legs exposed. :cloud9:

Did anyone have any problems with chafing with a leg wax? Also, any tips for a first timer? I can't find any articles for tips on a full leg wax to prepare for it. I'm getting it done at a salon that I get my eyebrows waxed at.

Thank you for reading!

Personally I wouldn't worry about it...or go with Nair. Of course I'm old enough not to care about anything other than what is really obvious to other people. A couple days of growth won't be obvious to anyone other than someone in VERY close contact with you.

Ok, I did have this done one time. I had my underarms & legs done.
The results were wonderful for my underarms but the wax was so hot that I had really bad burns on my legs:mad: . If you go and get it done make sure they have the wax at a good temperature & make sure you have some really good hair growth. I loved how smooth my legs were but I couldnt show them off because they were burned so bad, :sad2:

I was also told not to tan or be out in the sun for at least 24 hours after getting them waxed(no problem because I had to wear jeans), so you may want to do it a few days before you leave

Like the PP I like to use NAIR or NEET but I always get the sensitive skin formula & it also works good after several days of hair growth & last for awhile. Also, when I get those bumps, I use baby diaper rash creme & they are gone within hours- HTH

Hi, I get my legs waxed on a regular basis. It doesn't hurt that much and it lasts for a good 2 months. If you have a choice, ask the salon to use hard wax. It is the kind that doesn't require fabric strips to tear off. They just apply the wax, let it harden, and then rip it off. Do it a few days before you need to be exposed to the sun.
Once you start waxing, you'll never want to shave again.
Good Luck!

i've never had my legs waxed, but i would not recommend having a bikini wax before you go if you've never had that done before.

i had my first one back in june and wasn't expecting ingrown hairs like i got. it looked terrible, worse than shaving for me. funny thing is that within 4 days is when it started growing back with ingrown hairs for the most part. eww...

i'd like to get my legs waxed at some point though...

My advise to you is not do anything different than what you usually do. You don't want to have irritated skin when you're in Disney.

I'm too chicken to wax! I shave every 4 or 5 days. I have light hair, my husband doesn't care!

Good luck!

*going back to the chicken coop now*

Waxed my underarms and legs a year ago, before going to Florida! Loved it:love:       I would recommend it to anyone. I've never had issues with ingrown hairs or being burnt. I would suggest going to a reputable salon, it's worth the extra couple of bucks.

I had my legs shaves before and I have very sensitive skin. It came out perfectly, I didn't even have any redness. I went to Aveda, I don't know if you have those where you live. If you are worried or think your legs might be sensitive, I had one friend who told me she always took some tylenol right before. I was very satisfied with the result though, and I didn't have to shave for several weeks. I would consider getting my legs waxed before my upcoming trip (think of all the time it would save you when your there, not having to shave your legs) but I really don't have the $20 to spare

Thank you for all the advice!! I definitely think I'm going to do it. I have thick, coarse hair on my legs with very fair skin - so it definitely shows after a day. I'm so self-conscious about it! I'm going to do it a few days before we leave so I have a few days to "heal" at least.

Did anyone exfoliate before they did the waxing?

I agree:)

I used to do waxing, and I would definately go to a good reputable salon. If not it could be bad:scared:

If it will make you feel better, go ahead and do it. I am sure it will be fine.
I personally don't shave - anywhere! I think it is weird women are expected to shave - that if you don't others think it is gross or weird. Just my opinion, I know I am in the minority here because of the way people are brought up and are looked down upon if different, but that's me~I don't care what others think and do what I like - and you should too~I am sure you would love having your legs waxed...much better than shaving:)

I totally agree - don't try this right before your trip if you've never done it before. I got my first (and last) bikini wax before going to Hawaii, and had terrible ingrown hairs (they lasted for weeks and weeks, and looked worse than razor burn). My cousin also had this problem last year.

I'd go with the advice of some of the other posters and try a Nair-type product instead. Much easier on your skin. Just try the sensitive skin formula - you can try it before you go to make sure your skin tolerates it.

If you do decide to do waxing, bring a pair of cover-up shorts (Lands End sells them) to go over your swimsuit. These shorts are meant to go in the water, so you can wear them in the pool or water park. It would be a shame if you couldn't show "that area" at all!

Usually, I use Nair the morning I leave for WDW, and do not have any significant growth by week's end.

Everyone is different and has different issues they have to deal with - my hair grows very quickly which is great on my head, but kind of a pain when it comes to shaving legs. I have to do this daily if I'm going to wear shorts. I have tried waxing them and it did last longer than shaving, but not long enough to warrent the pain/discomfort involved.

In Disney we take naps each afternoon and I take a shower after the nap and wash my hair & shave legs so I feel fresh for the evening which is usually much slower paced. In the mornings I just take a quick shower but don't shave or wash my hair since we try to get out the door EARLY and those things take time. Just offering a different strategy in case you chicken out, I mean, change your mind. :rotfl:

If you do decide to go for the waxing...make sure you do not go in during your monthly cycle - it hurts more during that time. Also, some suggest taking a Tyelnol before waxing but I've never been able to tell a difference.

They sell a spray at CVS and other pharmacies now. You spray it on wherever your are getting waxed about a half hour before your appointment and it numbs the area so you don't feel a thing. I use it on my bikini line and it works great.

I have very dark hair and very pale clear skin. I have to shave almost everyday. I'm too chicken to wax and I honestly don't find shaving that annoying. I know exactly what you're talking about with the bumps and they are usually better if you find the right shave gel and razor, shave with the grain, and use a good moisturizer.

I'm too afraid to wax, but I also hate shaving during our Disney trips. I'm trying Nair next time. Good luck with the wax!

OT: Hi Dunbarfamily, we saw your door and signed one of your Mickey heads at ASMo in September. :wave2:

I don't know if this helps, because I've never had my legs waxed, but I have very sensitive skin and found that getting my eyebrows waxed left me with quite a rash for over a week. I then tried sugaring and it irritates my skin much less, I have a slight rash for a couple days. It is essentially the same idea as waxing, but the stuff is made of all natural ingredients like lemon and sugar, and it isn't as hot so that probably helps as well. It is slightly more expensive than waxing but to me, worth it (at least for my eyebrows). Another thing in the shaving dept. that has helped me is the Intuition razor with the "soap" built in. I no longer get bumps on my bikini line and because it is easy to use I can do it quickly every day on vacation in the shower.

I also agree othere posters re: yes to waxing, going to a reputable salon, and waiting a few days before sun exposure. In my area (CT) I just paid $55 for half leg & bikini wax. The lower half of your leg is MUCH more sensitive than upper. I've done lower once. It hurt. A LOT. I get my upper leg done about once every 6 weeks with only a rare ingrown hair. If your hair is too long or you go for this treatment at a certain time of the month, it will be more painful. 1/4 inch growth is all it takes.

Go have a "test" area done. That is something the salon should do for free, a week or so before the total leg wax... You will see how your legs react how long the redness goes away and how quickly your hair grows back. They probably would do a 2inch square.

Most salons/spas would rather to a patch test than run the risk of someone getting hurt by a waxing/ perm/ hair color ect.

Good luck!
