We always have leftovers and I don't want to split our meals because I know we wouldn't use all of our meal points. How do you handle leftovers when you want to continue through the park and not sprint back to the hotel?:confused3

It's better to leave food behind on a plate than to let it spoil while you carry it around. If you can manage it, a soft-sided cooler (with ice packs) can be used to keep leftover food safely.

Alternatively, eat your meal planning on taking some away, and focus on consuming the truly perishable stuff at the restaurant, carrying along only those items that won't spoil. (Many, but not all, desserts fit this option.)

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping there was a trick someone stumbled across but I will definitely plan ahead when ordering and what we will take away with us.

We have 3 people, 2 adults and an 11 year old. We had a plan from the beginning. 1 CS breakfast split between hubby and son (I don't eat breakfast), 2 CS lunches split between the 3 of us (more than enough food) and then, we would eat dinner very late, in order to take our leftovers straight to the room fridge. Worked great. There were 2 nights that we also split 2 TS meals between us which left us more for the last day. On that day, we ate someplace that I knew my son would not eat off the adults menu, we used our extra 2 TS credits and paid OOP for him to order off the kids menu. Then, we headed to Main St. and used up all our snack credits at the bakery and candy shop.

I enjoy all the working and reworking of those credits, but if you don't, I suggest either ordering more non perishable foods or heading back to the room or bringing the cooler. You could rent a locker and keep it in there if you don't want to carry it around.

I like your planning! We are three as well with a 6 year old. I will most likely share meals with her. Thanks for the tip.

Sorry, no great secret here. There were many times when we carried our TS dessert with us and that worked out fine. But to be honest we did share many meals so we didn't have too many leftovers. I remember one year when we didn't share that many and I can't tell you how much food we ended up throwing away (out of our fridge). We found that if we didn't share our TS meal than we would many times carry away our dessert. Not a big deal as we sometimes ate dinner at a resort and could leave dessert in the car. One bummer about taking out a dessert is many of the desserts have ice cream with them and they don't travel well. :rotfl2: Also, as we found out, some desserts don't hold over to well.

We've had the regular DDP 5 times now and the QSDP once. We quickly found out that what worked out best for us was to eat our regular way (with the except of having dessert at each meal, this we don't regularly do). We do share meals here at home and we do at WDW. Now that my DD is 11, we can easily share 2 adult meals between my DM, DD11, and myself. When we are on the regular DDP that gives us extra credits to use at a Signature Restaurant. We also, especially early in our trip, used very few credits for breakfast. Eating something light in the room worked best for us.

Have a great trip and Happy Dining!:goodvibes

Taking leftovers sounds like a good idea because you don't want to waste it. But I will be honest, I stopped doing it when I realized they weren't being eaten. We spent out time in the parks so we weren't in the room to eat them. If you plan to take leftovers, when are you planning on eating them? And how will you reheat them?

For some desserts, I would ask that the cake/pie portion be packaged to go, and get the "ala mode" portion of ice cream served to me at the restaurant.

I will leave stuff behind and concentrate on the important part of the meal. Eat all the steak, and leave the mashed potatoes behind. Especially if it's during the Aug/Sept Free Dining time when the weather is extremely hot.

For late dinners where I can take leftovers, I can use the resort foodcourt microwave to warm it up. And if you're in a Villa or family suite you have one in your room.

In some of the other rooms, you can request a microwave from mousekeeping.
