Leftovers to go?

LOL I know it sounds silly. But, has anyone ever taken the rest of the entree to go? Just wondering if it is normal to ask the waiter for a small box at a signature restaurant or if I will get funny looks. Here is the reason why- Mom and I will be traveling next week (YAYS) and will be on the DxDP. So many folks say its too much food- we see the pictures from the reviews and my mom is like um ok well where is the Vegetable? "It's right there Mom!" "Oh- you mean that twig of an asparagus?' LOL Ok anyways I am sure we will be stuffed beyond means- and I have a Lap Band- which makes me chew very tiny bites and eat slowly- and when I get nervous or feel rushed, sometimes the food gets stuck and takes awhile to go down. But I am always hungry later on... and would love to have been able to eat more of my meal- so is it rude or ok to ask to take my steak to go? Or should I bring a little ziploc bag in my purse and slip it in when nobody is looking? haHAR. Just wanted your opinions..... I don't want to waste some good foods!:rotfl:

We do! the one thing we try to do though, is schedule our largest meals around lunch time, since we typically head back to the resort after for some swimming. This way we can eat a reasonable amount, and still get the rest of the meal we paid for, and eat that at our own pace - don't feel funny asking for a box! You paid for that meal :)

You can... but I will say with Dxdp you will not have time to eat it! :lmao: We did this and at the end of 3 days had so many boxes in the little fridge it was literally laughable... I'll see if I can find the picture we took of it;....

You end up eating like ever 4 hrs anyway on the plan PLUS a bunch of snack credits. You can do it... but just remember this when you too have a box full of food. (The other issue is that if you aren't going right back to the room some of the food won't keep... that made it worse for us because I'd make us go back to the room... to save food... we never ate.... DH was not pleased!)

Oh thank you for the responses! I can just imagine a fridge full of those boxes! LOL. And food spoiling! I am planning on bringing a small cooler and transfer the food to a ziploc and throw it in the cooler which will be in the car. Also- I wasn't going to take every meal to go- just that really good piece of meat- the one that tastes so darn good you can't live without it! :rotfl2: We also plan on doing just 2 meals a day- TS for lunch and Sig for dinner. I can not wait to pig out next week! :lmao:

As PP have said, yes you can take leftovers. When we are on the reg. DDP we frequently have taken at least our desserts to-go. And yes, the fridge does get pretty full. If we didn't eat them as a late night snack, we would eat them for dessert.:goodvibes

Just so you know, that whole "I'm gonna take it out and put it in the car" thing doesn't work very well at Disney.

For example, if you are at the Magic Kingdom and you want to get back to your car in the parking lot (assuming you are using it and not taking advantage of the Disney transportation that will drop you off at the front door of the MK).....

to get back to your car from MK you must:
1. Walk out the front of the park (not so easy to negotiate around all the people on Main street sometimes).
2. Wait for a Boat or Monorail.
3. Ride either the boat or monorail to the ticket and transportation center that is on the other side of the lake.
4. Wait for a tram.
5. Ride the tram to your designated general parking area.
6. Walk from the tram to your car.
Turn around and do this in reverse order to get back to your car (I'd give the round trip to your car a lil over an hour).

And unless you are there in Jan or Feb, your car is gonna be pretty darn hot inside despite the cooler.

The other parks aren't as elaborate to get to your car...but it would still be a good half hour from leaving the restaurant to the car and back ...if not longer.

LOL! I totally understand... there were 4 of us though and the boxes added quickly. I stopped after day 5.... :confused3 took me a while didn't it? ;)

Even without eating breakfast there was no way I wanted that food (meat) for breakfast in the morning. And as good as my meals were.... if I was hungry between meals... I wanted a mickey bar instead!

Oh and you will pig out! Dxdp is not for the faint of heart. We love it :lovestruc:lovestruc but we normally do 2 meals too and even with that by the end of it I'm like... NEVER AGAIN! But then I do it the next year cause it was so good....:rolleyes1 ENJOY YOUR TRIP!!!

we did the "price fixe" lunch in France. and each had half a sandwhich left. luckily, we were at beach club villas, we were kinda sleepy anyway, and walked it back to the room and took a little nap!

once we took leftover fettucini alfredo but finally got tired of carrying it around and thought "it must not be any good now anyway".

I would not feel the slightest bit "silly" or embarrassed to ask for a box. also, ask for a plastic bag to carry it in.

on the logistic side, though, with the deluxe plan (which we have never done)I don't know when you would ever be hungry enough to eat it!
kinda like the way I tape all kinds of movies (on VHS.. most people these days record them on DVRS:)) anyway, if I don't have time to watch it then, what makes me think I have time to watch it later?
maybe not a great analogy, ut it works for me.

I do agree, however, that I would rather munch on a cold piece of steak in the morning that a piece of coffee cake..

We often take our leftovers to go if our schedule and the meal in question is such that we're not begging for food poisoning by doing so.

Two of my three kids are grazers and often decide they're hungry an hour after they didn't finish a meal, so whether it is half a muffin from the Main Street Bakery at breakfast or half a grilled cheese from Brown Derby at lunch we ask for a small box to tuck the more portable leftovers in the stroller bag for the inevitable "I'm hungry" that will come as the day wears on. We've also been known to take dinner leftovers or dessert to go because they often make a better post-swim late-night-snack than anything the food courts have to offer at midnight.

I'm a waitress. I often box food for customers.. sometimes they feel silly and say "well. no, there's just a little bit left..."
I say "well, that little bit of steak, fry it and fry up that little bit of potatos, add a couple scrambled eggs and you have a great breakfast!!!"
then they say.. "well, if you don't mind..."
I include everything! that baked potato skin (at home you can just add cheddar cheese and sour cream) I put the AU jus in a plastic cup with a lid... give them a little bit more tartar in a cup if they have fish...
label and date it. if I have time.. draw a picture of a fish, or a chicken, or cow, etc. depending.

OP do NOT feel silly taking the food you paid for with you.
esp since you have a lap band.. maybe you will nibble on it in an hour or 2

Im going to be doing a food hunt to sample all the foods in DL in December. Im going to fill up fast and I know it. Is there a way to order like a half order of things so I dont waste and I can eat it all and still have room? I have a whole list of foods to try but I cant eat 20 meals. I will explode. Is it rude to ask for just half of the food? and will it cost the same, more, or less?

My family has often taken the left over portions of meals "to go," as long as we know we're heading back to the hotel or it is something that will not spoil. We usually eat the leftovers for breakfast the next morning or as a midnight snack. None of the servers have ever given us funny looks when we asked for boxes.

We've even asked for entire desserts to go, like the chocolate moose from Le Cellier:

I think we're going to be asking for a lot of desserts to go; it's like another snack later on!

Unless it is a buffet they will package food for you. No need to bring a ziplock and carry food in your purse.

Most Disney restaurants do not do half orders. I know Il Mulino does (but technically it is not a Disney restaurant).
