Leftover Points

New Member question - I have 14 points left that I cannot use. They need to be used by October 1. I looked into the service that sells points but they only want them in a large group. What do you do with these leftover points? :sad2:

post them for rent or transfer on the rent/trade board here. 14pts will get you 1 night in a studio in Sept at a few different resorts. Maybe someone just needs 1 night. Or you could transfer them to someone who is just short a few points to make their reservation.

Were they already banked? If not, I'd bank them to the October 2012 Use year.

I agree, and if you are going every year then you can actually build up your left over points. For example, let's say you have 160 points and you make a reservation for 146 points leaving you with 14 points left over. Now, let's say you bank those 14 points into 2013. You then have 174 points in 2013. If you then make the same reservation for 2013 (146 points) and use the banked points first, then you will have 28 points left over that can be banked to 2014. You can continue in this fashion until your extra points are equal to the total number of points you own. Once your left over points equals your total number of points, you will be able to keep banking your current year's points, however you will not be able to increase your point balance without losing points.

The points were left over from 2010 and I received them when I purchased resale.

I must have missed that thread. I will do it now. I hate to see them just go back to Disney.

Just a word of encouragement. I have on a couple of occassions had 10-17 points leftover and have been successful at renting them for someone to add an additional night for a studio. Good luck!

I am in the same boat. I have 12 that need to be used by jan 31.

I would presume the whole banking points concept was created to prevent owners who don't completely use their points from losing leftover points. Without the banking option, panicked owners needing to rent out 1-20 points would be rampant.

I have a confirmed reservation at VGC for a September stay, using some of my borrowed September 2013 points. If I purchase "leftover" points from a member as a transfer, can I direct DVC to re-allocate how they take points for this stay (let's assume they have to be used by September 2012)? Would I do this by phone?

If you are wanting to replace "borrowed" points with transferred points, and then return the borrowed points to your September 2013 use year, the answer is no. Borrowing and banking are final transactions.

Yes, but it might not be obvious to members, especially to new members, that the points can rollover since the rules only mention banking one year ahead.

No, I'd put the borrowed 2013 points back to 2012, for use in another 2012 booking; I'd just be a bit more ahead if I get some transferred points into my account. I'm just trying to find an inexpensive way to stop the "borrowing cycle" and to get my account current.

I always have to bank points into the next year! We stay in studios...always try to ALK Jambo for less points :lmao: and we love it there.
