We are staying at BWI and using Garden Grocers for food and drinks. I'm certain we are getting too much bottled water, soft drinks, etc but I've lost that battle. We are flying so are not taking any left overs with us. Is there a way to pass on unopened items? I'd hate to waste alot of bottled water and the like. Friends of ours are checking in the day after we leave so it'd be cool to be able to leave stuff for them or anyone else in need.

I'm not sure what people do at BWI but at Coronado springs, people bring usable things to the laundry room and posts a note. We, like you, typically end up with water, soft drinks, etc. It's nice to leave for others. Enjoy your trip.

That’s a great idea

From my hotelier’s perspective, anything left in your room must be taken out by the housekeeping staff and disposed of. Health regulations in most jurisdictions absolutely require this and even bottled and canned items cannot be considered safe. There are too many cases of malevolent people tainting products that look unopened that you cannot assume the product hasn’t been tampered with. Actually, when laundry rooms are cleaned the hotel would have to remove any products like that as well.

I give unopened drinks to the Bell Services person helping with our bags. They always seem grateful and it goes to their break room. Everything else I throw out. As
@Polydweller stated, it has to be thrown out and you are just making more work for someone by leaving it anywhere

Go to the front desk and tell them you are leaving some things for your friends. Give them their name and arrival date and t will be held for them.

Disney resorts do not have break rooms - I was a CM at 2 deluxe resorts - there is a cafeteria. There are no fridges or anything like that for CMs , anything left there would be thrown out. There are personal lockers but that is all.

If your friends are coming that day, you can leave the items in Bell Services for them. I'm sure they'd be delighted to receive them!
On our checkout day, I go to the pool (unless I see someone immediately on our hall) & offer our "goods." The recipients always seem very thankful. I even had a neighbor that we had gotten to know at Ft.Wilderness insist on taking our opened orange juice, milk, & loaf of bread.
