Leaving your Luggage outside your door

Our first cruise is coming up. I have read that on the last night of your cruise you pack up your luggage and have it outside your cabin door at 11:00pm. My question is do you keep your carry on and fill it with your pj's, hair dryer, toilitries(?).Also where does this bag go when you are eating breakfast? Also what about if you carry a diaper bag....can you use this and still have a carry on? TIA for any information!

You can have as many carry ons as you wish to haul off the ship. Some people choose to haul off their own luggage (I'd discourage this, when everyone does it it becomes a real pain). You'll set this near your table while you eat breakfast, which does make breakfast a little crowded (though a lot of people skip breakfast).

They will tell you (and they are serious!) make sure to take a change of clothes out for the next day, throw your jammies in your carryon. If you don't, you'll be getting off the ship in your jammies (we saw a person or two do just that!). Hope you don't sleep in your birthday suit!

Our 1st trip, I sent all baggage the night before except for one small bag. Although I had enough of everything (clothes etc.), There were some items I would have liked to have had that morning.

It is definitely a pain to drag a lot of luggage around if you are going to breakfast. We usually take all our carry on's with all our goodies and 1 small suitcase with us now.

On our last cruise, we walked off the Wonder with a family from RI who were all in their PJ!! They did have a carry on bag with them, but were very honest that they simply forgot to leave out a set of clothes for the next day!! They found it funny and asked me if I would take a picture for their scrapbook!!

Thanks for the tips! I guess now we won't be in our pj's I wonder if there have been instances where birthday suit wearers(is that a word ?)have not had a thing to wear at breakfast time? Kinda funny though aint it? that just brought a thought to my head I had read once that DCL had bath robes for cruisers. Is this still available or am I mistaken for reading it?

I think bathrobes may be provided in the suites...but not in regular cabins. They do have them in the spa also...but not in cabins...12-4....I also could be wrong about them being in the suites...

I'll give an opinion from the flipside. We always carry out luggage off with us now, as someone once took some of our bags accidentally when we left them out. We knew they were missing as we scoured the terminal, but DCL would not take a report until everyone else had taken their bags. I guess they thought the bags might show up, but no such luck. If we'd had an early flight, we would have had problems. We were being picked up by Happy Limo and had no cell phone...thank goodness our driver waited for us! Eventually our bags were sent to us from the state where they ended up, so all's well that ends well. But ever since then, my husband likes to just keep them with us. That way, we don't feel so rushed on the last night either.

We had the early breakfast time (6:45) so we left our "carry on" bags in the room until after breakfast. We then returned to our stateroom and gathered our belongings and vacate by the required 8:00. This way we did not have to lug everything with us to breakfast with two small children. We did check our big bags, except for change of clothes, toiletries and necessary items.

But you are most often on the three day, and I can't imagine after so many cruises you guys go with a ton of luggage. I think its really different if you are talking a seven day cruise with garment bags for formals and tuxes, a bag just for the shoes, a suitcase for everyone, a bag for toiletries, etc. We saw a family like this trying to get off the ship - they tied up everything for everyone.

We had the same thing happen, someone walked out of the DCL terminal with our bag and they really discouraged us from filing the report until at least most of the bags were claimed. Eventually we said "we need to get out of here" and they let us file. Bag showed up on a Delta flight in Indiana. Got home and fabric stamped all over the bag, you'd have to be blind to think it was yours now.

Our first cruise was a Carnival. When it was time to debark, they had us each, according to our level, sit in a different area. There was a lady that we just happened to be sitting by that was sitting kind of strangly. She told us that she had forgotten to keep out a bra! She was so embarrassed!

We always left our small bags in the room, went to grab a bite to eat then back to our rooms! never had a problem with this!

Is it safe to leave your luggage outside your room? Have there been any incidence of theft?

I'm sure there have been, DCL isn't a perfectly safe environment. I wouldn't put your jewelry in your bag or leave the video camera in the hall. But why someone would want to steal my dirty laundry? Hey, they are welcome to that!

DCL has insurance for lost luggage. If it isn't in the terminal, file it as lost and take the claim. Then go shopping.

Yes, I remeber watching the delayed pep talk by Vicki about remembering your clothes. She shared a story about some one who packed every thing away and the crew had to make shift an outfit for that person so they could disembark clothed. If I remember correctly, the ships souvenier store is closed so there's no way to run out and get an outfit. (If I am wrong- some one correct me on the ship being closed).

If some one gets bathrobes they are very lucky. We were on the 6th floor midship. Common floor and a common stateroom, no robe.

Also, make sure that the clothes you DO keep for that last morning still fit!

DH gained so much weight on our first cruise that he had to leave the ship in his bathing suit because he couldn't close the pants he had planned on wearing.. They were the ones he had worn a week before when we flew to Florida, and they didn't even come close. Now he tries his clothes on before we pack.
