Leaving WDW

How easy is it to get out of WDW if staying on site. For example getting to sea world from WDW. This is one of the only things holding me back from staying on site

Thanks again every one

Hi Dave, I've never stayed onsite, always off site, but I've driven around the Disney complex loads of times (without satnav) and its so easy to get where you want to be, if your going to Universal or Seaworld my idea would be to head towards the Downtown Disney area, carry on past Downtown Disney to a place called Crossroads, from there you will be able to get onto the I4 which will take you to either Universal or Seaworld (I4 East) or Tampa (I4 West). everywhere is well signposted.

Somebody else can probably give you better directions than me, or, you could always go on google maps and have a look around Disney and the Downtown Disney area.

Hope it helps Dave.

Pete.

Thanks

Is car hire the easiest way I am 22 so is it expensive?:confused3

How easy is public transport from Disney?

Basic plan is Disney for 2 weeks then last week have the flex ticket visit all those places in the last week so was wondering how easy it was to get to them all from Disney or if I would be best to hire a car.

:tinker: Big thanks to every one for all their help you guys are stars

price up a car for a week is for gold £151 for standard £123,would go for the gold as you get a full tank of petrol and if GF over 21 she could drive as well, site looked at was www.usrentacar.co.uk

thanks a million!!!

do you think that would be the easiest option? Do you have to pay for parking if you have a flex ticket? Where can you pick the car up from?

Thanks again :goodvibes

It's not that simple though. There is a $25 daily surcharge for drivers under 25. I will turn 25 a few months after we go, and it'll will cost me near enough £500 for two weeks with the cheapest car you can get, so it's not worth it for me.

I'll be using mears taxi's or buses to get around.

Hi Having stayed on site before, we do usually 3 days off at the other parks such as seaworld, and universal / IOA. The final day we dont go to the park just go shopping.

We use mears to go to these places and the shopping day we use them to go to Orlando Premium outlets and if you want to travel up and down I-Drive use the I-Trolly from there.

I dont mind driving but i am on vacation and i enjoy a drink of beer and wine so i use taxi for the days off.

If cost maybe a problem, you could find a nice family who are going at the same time and lower it just a suggestion.

Hope i did not waffel to much

Although there is a fee its nowhere near $25/day with USrentacar, they charge £50/week.
For you age 24 2 weeks rental would be £374 including a tank of gas

Booking Duration14 DaysDriver
Age 24 Years
Vehicle Cost274.00(GBP)
Optional Extra's:Optional Extra:Young Drivers Policy : 100.00 (GBP) (Prepayable)Total Price:374.00(GBP)

To me £374 for 2 weeks is worth every penny but not to others.

Not sure if this is the case anymore but Virgin Holidays' platinum package included the surcharge when we booked with them for our 2007 trip. For California/Las Vegas last year we had to pay it (used Dollar through usrentacar and unfortunately the young drivers package is Florida only AFAIK) and it was a pain but well worth it for that trip as IMO you miss out on a lot if you don't drive in California.
This year i'll be 25 so it's not an issue but one-way rental charges are just as bad with some companies (we're going from New York to Boston then flying to Orlando), luckily Budget are one of the more reasonable ones :)

£374 would mean no having to be a slave to a timetable, not having to stand on a bus after a long day, leaving when you want and not when the bus is going, freedom to drive where ever you want in Florida at the drop of a hat.

Why Disney for the first two weeks? There is far more to enjoy than just Disney. I love the place, but there is a lot out there to do. Disney would rather you never leave the place, hence the clever free dinning plan.

I know someone who went last summer and never left the grounds of Disney for two weeks?

Just thought it made sense going to be staying for free weeks will have Disney ticket for the 3 weeks then going to get a flex ticket for the last week, then going to try and do other little bits in-between.

What you think ……. Please let me know you guys have been

Have you considered doing a split stay - half in disney and half at a Universal or I-drive hotel?

Seems a good option for you!

I was going to until the 14 nights for the price of 10 offer came out.

I agree 200% with this - but many on here will have us burned at the stake :)

A young guy your age - I have a feeling you will enjoy the "outside" -i.e Universal/IOA rather more.

If you can afford it - get the hire car.

I agree that split stay might be a good idea if the hire car cost is prohibitive. It's much easier and cheaper to get from somewhere like International Drive to US, IOA, SW, malls etc via public transport than it is to get to these places from WDW. My 2002 and 2005 trips were without a car and we used a combination of free hotel shuttles, I-trolley, Lynx buses and taxis to get around. I wouldn't want to be without a car again as I am now spoilt *lol* but it is doable :)

i would definarely hire a car,it is so much easier.i personally couldn't think,of anything worse, than having to hang around, waiting for buses, after a day at the parks.
i also think, doing the parks everyday,is too much!
it is nice to have rest days & just chill out.you could drive down to the beach.the beaches are lovely,i personally like,st petes & clearwater, although we have drove down to miami.
shopping is so much easier, with a car as well & believe me,you probably will shop!
will you need a 3 week ticket,if you are getting a flexi ticket or are the prices similar, for 14 & 21 days?
i just love the freedom,of a car,but that's just my opinion, but as already said, theres alot more to see, than just the parks.
but that is what planning,is all about,so have fun planning & keep asking your questions,as it will really help, with your trip.
tracy

In many trips both with and without children we have never hired a car and always use the lynx buses, (we avoid the I-ride trolley as it is far too slow). You can go essentially anywhere on a lynx bus from both Disney and Universal. We usually do a slpit stay but did once stay at WDW for 2 weeks alone but still did all of our usual shopping trips etc via the buses.
I don't view waiting for a bus as a hassle (well just once and a while maybe) as I think you don't get to really know a place until you have travelled on the public transport system. But I realise that buses are not everyones cup of tea.

we usually have a hire car for the duration, but next year we are relying heavily on WDW transport (ME bus from airport, DCL bus to cruise & internal buses) and limo hire from cruise to Universal.

We will hire a car for a few days while at WDW (just to go to the Malls, offsite restaurants and possibly to Clearwater for the day) - but the majority of the holiday (22 days out of 26 days) will be car free.

Last trip our hire car spent a lot of time sat in the parking lot (annoying when you are paying car hire, ins, and in the case of Universal - parking fees (my pet hate - which I might have mentioned before!!:lmao:)) - so this year we have planned our hotel stays around the parks we want to do (eg poly for Mk, Beach club for other parks & Hard Rock for Universal/IOA) and we will see how that differs from previous trips.

We might find we love being more tied down (I am hoping that not having so much freedom, will mean we will slow down the pace a bit and be contented where we are, rather than rushing off here there and everywhere) or we might HATE the lack of freedom and will realise that having a car the whole time is the way for us. - We'll just have to wait and see!!:lmao:
