We had been planning this trip for months now. Got my two single brothers-in-law to join us. They had been to Disneyworld before, but only once or twice, and stayed off-site and at the All-Stars. This trip we had planned to go deluxe and got two rooms at the Polynesian GVC and made great priority seatings. Talked up the trip and we all were so excited about it, especially my 8 year old - she was going with her uncles!
Friday morning we call a phone call that one of my brothers-in-law had a heart attack. He is only 48. He's out of ICU now and is doing much better but obviously can't go on the trip. My other brother-in-law wants to stay home also to be with my mother-in-law.
They've convinced us to go ahead with the vacation and am doing so because the second week we spend with my 81 year old father in Florida and I only get to see him once a year.
I'm so sad to be going for so many reasons. I know my brother-in-law is getting better and once we get there, Disney Magic will kick in, but for now I don't even feel like packing.
Sorry for going on but had to "talk" to someone!

I'm so sorry to hear. Make sure your family has your hotel and cell numbers to get hold of you, then go and have fun. And enjoy the visit with your dad too!

I'm sorry to hear about your BIL. That is an extremely stressful and upsetting thing to have happen at any time, particularly when you were all planning on spending time together. It's good to hear that he is on the mend, though.

My advice for your trip is to allow yourself to be sad if you need to be...don't just put on the happy face because it's Disney. Besides, I'm sure you're right and the 'magic' will kick in--particularly if you can keep in touch with folks at home and track his progress.

Of course you don't feel like packing, but if you forget everything else, don't leave out the sunscreen and the phone number for your BIL!

Take care.

I'm so sorry it's not turning out to be the trip you had all hoped it would be. I'm so sorry about your BIL. You're right though, once you arrive at WDW you will TOTALLY be ready to have fun! You can call your BIL and check up on him while you're gone! ;) Take lots of pictures so you can share your child can share the trip with both uncles when you guys get back!!! Have a GREAT time!!!!

Alien,

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Please take a little comfort knowing you are not alone. Situations like that have taken place to many of us on these boards. It happened to us in February. My grandfather (93!!) had been in and out of hospitals since a fall down his steps in Aug 03. He would have bouts of illness, then get better, then get sick again. In Jan. his health really started to deteriorate and on THE morning we were supposed to leave, he was hospitalized with an advanced case of pneumonia. We werent sure what to do, but the rest of the family convinced us to go ahead with our plans. While we did wrestle with a little guilt, we knew there was nothing we could do.

I am truly content with the decision we made to go ahead with the trip. He was always on our mind and we called home every day. Please trust me when I tell you, the Disney "Magic" will definately kick in!

God bless you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear your news.:( I am sending lots of pixie dusts and well wishes your way:goodvibes  :flower1: You and your family are in my prayers.

Go to WDW and enjoy your magical vacation. Keep in touch with your family while there.

I was sad to read about you BIL and I am praying for a quick recovery for him. Go ahead with your Disney plans and take lots of pictures to share with him when you return. Think of it the other way around: you would want your SIL to take the kids on their planned vacation if you were hospitalized. He wants you to go and enjoy yourself. Don't feel guilty. Call everyday and check in on him. He'll be looking foward to those calls.

I am sorry to hear that your trip is not turning out as planned. I know that it is disappointing and heart-breaking. Once you arrive at the Wolrd, you will start to have a good time.

Your family would want you to go ahead and enjoy your vacation without guilt. Besides, you have something to celebrate. Your BIl only had a heart-attack, but he is still here so that he can go on the next trip with you. :D

Blessing be yours.

Sorry to hear about your BIL, and any sending prayers for a speedy recovery, I too agree you should continue with your vacation plans and have a MAGICAL TRIP.

Take lots of photo's and start planning your next trip as soon as you return home...including your BIL's. You may want to purchase AP's because your BIL is young and Boy is he going to want to have a fun vacation once he gets free of the hospital.

I hope your BIL will be okay, and it's good that he's getting better. Take lots of pictures/video for him. Buy him a really cool present from WDW, as well as your other BIL.

Try not to worry and check in with them a lot. And HAVE FUN!:wave2:

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I second the other posts that recommend lots of pictures and video. If he is the kind to have a pretty good sense of humor, you could always pack a "flat-BIL". I have some co-workers who did this, basically you take a piece of paper (heavier kind) draw a full body picture of the person on the paper and cut him out. Then you take the cutout everywhere you go and include him in all of your pictures. I think it would help to raise everyone's spirits and make him still feel involved.

They say that laughter is the best medicine!:)

I had planned a 3 day trip back in Feb. 1996 with my 2 kids. 2 weeks before, my Mom died suddenly......I postponed the trip till April and we went and had a OK time, I was sad because I remembered the times she and I had gone to WDW.:( I still think of her with each trip I take, s to you and a speedy recovery for your BIL.....Faith.

Thank you so much for all of your kind thoughts. Your suggestions were wonderful and we'll be using them.
The limo (cheaper than parking at the airport) will be here in an hour and we'll be on our way.

Thank you again for allowing me to open my heart - I know everyone here would understand.

Cindy
