Leaving tomorrow - 2 questions - help!

We are leaving for our Disney/Universal trip tomorrow.

For the Universal part of it, I have unused one day tickets from 2013. I need to upgrade them to 2 park tickets. It is my understanding that I have to enter a park, go to guest services, and make this change there. Is that correct? Of course, handling it before entry would be optimal, but I just want to know what my options are.

Second, we have booked a room at Royal Pacific for one night to take advantage of early entry and express pass. It is my understanding that I have to go physically check into the hotel before going to the park, because that's the only way to get the credential (room key?) needed for the perks. Is this correct?

You can also upgrade your tickets at the Hogwarts Express ticket windows in the park...hardly saw a line there last month. Yes, you'll all need to go to the hotel and check in. Your room keys will then be used at a kiosk at the hotel to print express passes. They are separate than your room key and will have your photo.
