Leaving the park after Wishes?

I thought they recently built that new "escape route" behind the Main Street shops just for that purpose? Or do they only use that when the crowds reach the highest level during peak season?

The last day of my last trip we were at MVMCP, and I was incredibly sick. I found out later that it was pneumonia, but all I knew was that I really needed to get back to my resort. The crowds were completely impassable. I asked a CM if there was anything she could do to help me get out and she just shrugged, shook her head, and walked away. I ended up just collapsing on the pavement where I stood, crying for a while, and then just waiting it out.
