We are all excited to be leaving Sunday morning early to stay at the AKV for 8 nights. Then I saw the weather this morning which is saying there is a chance for a hurricane overnight Tuesday along Florida's west coast! I guess they think it will only be a category 1 storm, so probably not a huge deal. I assume Disney is well prepared for such situations and as the center of the storm will probably be on the coast, I am hoping for nothing more than a glancing blow.

Any reason we should be overly concerned about this?

I think your main worry will be your flight. Storms disrupt air traffic. Keep checking your flight. Once you get there, you may encounter rain, thunderstorms, etc., for a day or so, but unless the storm strengthens considerably, I doubt Orlando will be in any danger at all.

Keep an eye on this thread - JimMIA gives good practical advice:

Tropical Storm Fay

We our leaving on sunday morning also will be be at Disney OKW and then Vero. I am so mad about this storm. We our only there for five nights and two of the days seem ruined by rain and wind. Minnie I am also from Connecticut. Have a safe flight.

Thanks. I doubt 2 days will get ruined. In fact, the current track shows it coming closest to us overnight, so perhaps it will all happen while we are sleeping. Let's hope so anyway. Safe travels.

We are also leaving Sunday morning. Looks like we're in for some rain. Any chance it would not hit WDW?

We were at OKW for Hurricane Wilma - let me ease your mind and say WDW is awesome when bad weather happens - we took a flight a day early as we were due in on the day before it was forecast, waited until SWA posted weather warnings, and they changed our flight to a day sooner no problem. We stayed at POP for a night on an AP rate, moved to OKW the day before the Hurricane was due to hit. That night, we received a memo and a phone call stating WDW transportation would be cancelled the next day, and please stay in your rooms - they played Disney movies on the resort channel all evening and day for the kids. Disney has its own hydro, so we weren't affected like the rest of Orlando. The hurricane came through early the next morning (we have photos of the trees blowing almost sideways outside our room). It was over in a few hours, and the sky was blue and sunny by noon. We received a message on our phone that the buses would be running to MK for resort guests only starting at 1pm, so off we went to an almost empty park! Crews were busy cleaning up debris as we travelled by on the bus. The news showed the damage and hydro was out in lots of places in Orlando, supplies were hard to get for a few days, but being at WDW we never even noticed there had been a hurricane except for a few branches down here and there. They're very good at hiding the 'real world' and keeping the magic in the forefront for guests! We felt very safe and well taken care of during the storm.
I don't think you will lose too many days of your vacation as long as you are already at OKW instead of being stuck in the airport.
Have a safe flight, and enjoy your time at WDW - be safe!

We were at OKW for Hurrican Jeanne and it was amazing how little noise we heard from the wind even though the trees and shrubs especially the bamboo was bent way over. There was one large palm that came down near the HH bus stop and it was cleared away by the end of the day after the storm was over.

We were at BWV for Charlie. Parks closed at 1 pm and were open at 9 am the next day, except for AK, if I am remembering correctly. It was amazing watching the CM's get ready for the storm. We felt well taken care of. We had driven down from MA, and asked to stay an extra day because of all the damage outside of the World and were accomodated once the manager was brought into the conversation. We were concerned about the gas shortages in the area.
