I haven't flown since 1998, and I packed our film, etc. in my purse and just handed them to the assist. at the first security gate so they wouldn't get x-rayed.

Now with all the added security, how should I handle our film and camcorder?

I just packed my film in my carry-on both times. I asked the airport people about the x-rays and was told if the film is below 1000 ASA, then there is nothing to worry about. I already got my pictures developed and they came out great. I had 400 ASA and 800 ASA with me. If you don't want to take a chance, then just have them hand search it. Just be prepared for it to take more time.

That I would not do. If they are using the scanners they use in the post office at that airport, it kills the film.

USAir's website warns not to pack film in checked luggage because of the strong x-ray machines used. Pack them in carryon. I had no problem last month with 800 speed film in my carryon.
