Leaving Saturday... have a few ?s - Pics added

Glad you had a good time. It is lucky you did bring proof of the dog's service training. 99% of the world could know a fact but for some reason I seem to find that one person who does not know the fact. Your report shows that people have to be prepare for those people who do things contrary to what they are supposed to do, lol.

I cannot wait to hear how your letter to Disney turns out and what Disney will use as their reasoning for their request of proof.

I love your response to what is that and hope to see some pictures later.

I also wanted to add... the resort *DID* ask me for PAPERS TO *PROVE* her dog is in fact a service dog. I informed them it was illegal (again as I had done on the phone), but they didn't care and made me show them proof.
I'm curious if you printed out the ADA fact sheet from the Department of Justice. That should be enough proof, and also includes a phone number for someone to call. If you did have it, what did they say to that?

If you have to pay the lawyer to write a letter, I first would write a letter of complaint and include a print out of that fact sheet. If they still don't 'get it', you can always escalate things by sending a letter from a lawyer.

There are people who don't have 'proof' that their dog is a service dog. Some are trained by the owner and some are trained by someone other than a service dog organization. We now have a puppy that will be trained to be our DD's service dog. The breeder we bought him from also does dog training and has trained dogs to be therapy dogs, but has not trained any to be service dogs yet. So, we will not have any proof that the dog is a service dog. We will be printing out copies of the Fact sheet and carry them with us to hand out if needed.

Glad to hear that things mostly went well and your DD did well.

By law it doesn't matter who trained the dog. If it is well behaved and has good doggie manners and does any "service" then its a service dog. Ok so even I think that is a bit flexible, but I didn't write the law.

Our daughters dog was trained by a professional trainer and happens to be certified. Julia and the dog have an ID with their picture on the front. On the back is the ADA. I showed them the ADA that told them we didn't need additional papers (to be a pain) which I had printed out. They said that wasn't good enough they needed specific papers on the dog. I was very nice and again informed them that is illegal and they didn't care. He had to see them for us to be checked in. Ok, so I showed him and nicely told them Disney would be hearing from our attorney as nicely as possible. I told him to put that little bit of information in his little computer.

My good friend is an attorney. I won't be paying her. She will have a field day with it. I have actually already spoken to her about the matter. I mentioned it before we ever left home and she said "Don't show them just give them the ADA. Oh let me handle it." I told her not to worry about it. However, when I spoke to her yesterday she specifically asked about it. She is an avid Disney visitor and actually a member of the DVC. She will love being a bit of a thorn.

I will let you know what we end up hearing, if anything.

That's why the law doesn't require it (although, if they ask, you do have to be able to tell them what specific 'service' the dog was trained to provide - not the disability, but just what the dog does to assist with needs related to the disability.

Thanks for the information.
I am really surprised that they would not take the ADA FAQs for businesses as 'proof' that you did not need proof. Situations like that were why the fact sheet was written up!
You would think that if the individual CM didn't know, they would get their supervisor, who should know.

I'll be interested in what they have to say to the lawyer.

Yes this sutuation makes me plan to order a new ID. They have the photo with certification number, etc and ADA on the back its a cheap-o laminated card, given to us at the end of training. I am sure you can imagine what it looks like after lurking in my purse or diaper bag for 2 yrs (I also ALWAYS carry rabies info, some hospitals require it). There is a website that has a hard plastic tag with the information and photo inside the plastic. I plan to order that eventually. This encourages it.

Very sad. The *ONLY* other place we have ever had any trouble was a lical chinese dive. Of course I think it is a communication breakdown. They now are ok, but the first few trips there with him was interesting....

Oh my Gosh, just saw the pics and can I say- too cute! Especially liked the ones w/ Minnie&Goofy, and of course your little princess and her attendant at the bibbidi bobbidi boutique - How do you get your SD to keep the hat on her head? LOLprincess: Nicole
