Leaving resort for several days for cruise - allowed?

My Mum and I have a 9 night stay at WDW next month staying at POFQ. Mum would like to add in a DCL cruise, even though we have already paid for the room (with Virgin).

Would we be allowed to leave the resort for 4 nights to do a Dream cruise, if we let the front desk know? We would stay the first night (at POFQ), do the cruise, then come back and stay the remaining 4 nights as planned. We don't want a refund on the nights we're not there but just need to know whether it's allowed or not before booking anything.

We don't have tickets linked with the room as we have AP and we have no Dining Plan either, if that makes a difference?

Thank you for your help :flower3:

As long as you let the front desk know, you should have no problem. :thumbsup2

Personally I'd book a stay before, the cruise then a stay after as it should be cheaper but as you are already booked with virgin I assume that's not an option?

Assuming it isn't I can't speak from personal experience but I've heard of people who have done this without any issues.

I'd phone the hotel\resort direct and talk to them about it before booking anything for it though.

The other option I can think of is can you extend your trip and ask Virgin to change your return date? then you do the cruise at the end of your vacation (though I'd stay an extra night if possible so you have wiggle room if there are any delays).

whatever you decide I'm sure you'll have a great time! :)

Yes of course you can do it, no-one says you have to use a room you have paid for.
Personally I have never done it with a Disney resort, the Yorkshireman in me wouldn't allow to leave an expensive room empty :rotfl: but I have done it with a £25/night offsite hotel, actually nice to be able to leave the luggage there and not trail everything on the cruise.
I called at the reception on our way to the cruise just to let them know they wouldn't need to clean the room for a few days, also didn't want them reporting us missing.:goodvibes

We would be staying for one night before the cruise and for 4 nights afterwards, as we have 9 nights booked and paid for. I was just worried that if we left the room for 4 nights, that Mouse Keeping might report that the room was left with no luggage in it (and no mess!) and that they'd think we had checked out early, then resell our room to someone else. :scared1:

We can't change anything with Virgin as the PIF was in September and it would cost stupid amounts of money to adjust anything now.

I personally couldn't see it being a problem as the room is paid for, whether we sleep in it or not, but I wanted to check first before making a potential mistake. :upsidedow

:rotfl: My family isn't actually from Yorkshire, we just live here ;)

That's good to know about the room, thank you Wayne :goodvibes

We'll just let the front desk know then what we're doing and hope the room key still works when we come back

I sort of expected that based on the way you worded it but I thought I'd put the options out there just in case. :)

Personally I couldn't stomach leaving a bought and paid for room for 4 days, hmm maybe I have some Yorkshire blood in me? :lmao:

I know! Rent it out to another couple while you're away! :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

I did this very thing in May as we booked a 3 night cruise after we had paid for the hotel
I just told the front desk what we were doing and although it's an expensive way of doing it, it's nice to just pack what you need for the cruise and leave the rest in your room

Although we haven't done this at Disney, we did do it at the Springfield Suites when we had a four night cruise - just told reception we wouldn't be there for the Thursday to Sunday in case of a fire alarm etc, and we took enough baggage for our cruise, leaving the rest in the room.

You could leave a note to Mousekeeping in the room too, so they know you are coming back and when.

That's OK if they can read English, the last twice we have stayed at OKW they could not speak English. I tried to conversate but did not go down well:rotfl2:
