My daughter left our gas oven on for probably six or so hours - was there any danger if it wasn't caught until morning?

I don't think so. I am very absentminded and I have left the oven on many times....drives my DH nuts. But summer is not when you want the extra heat in the kitchen, or the gas bill!

As long as there are no flammable or meltable substances in or near the stove and the pilot light stays on it may not be a hazard. However, it's best to teach her to shut the stove off when not in use. It's a disaster waiting to happen IMO.

I left an electric oven on for 3 WEEKS when I went on a driving trip from Cleveland to California and back. Yep, 3 weeks. It was on pretty low. Actually, my BF at the time turned it on to warm up bagels the morning we left so I think HE did it. Other than a high electric bill it wasn't a problem.

Oh yeah, I am more careful now.

Glad nothing happened, Jodi.

Changing subjects, how was the trip to Washington??

Dan -

You are too sharp! I just added a separate post about my wonderful trip.
