We are leaving Sunday and need to make some last minute changes b/c now family is joining us for dinner. We will have 3 young kids and trying to decide on Kona or Ohana. I was really leaning toward Kona b/c the food sounded so good, but now noticed that both restaurants changed their menus in October. So, I am looking for opinions for those of you who have gone since then. I know the atmosphere at Ohana... we have been there for breakfast. Is Kona that restaurant that is in the lobby area? I would like to have both good food and nice atmosphere. Last time we went with this family, we went to Whispering Canyon and hated it. It was too noisy and obnoxious, and the food did not live up to the reviews. I am afraid that Ohana would be like that. Is the entertainment for the kids obnoxious or just enough to keep them entertained. I would love to hear from those of you who have done these restaurants with young kids. We are not a rowdy bunch, but do enjoy entertainment done well. Thanks for the input.

We went to Kona last week and it is one of our favorites. It is much quieter than Ohana without the interuptions of the meat being brought to the table and the coconut races (though very fun if that is what you are looking for). Many of the same foods are available at both. At our table (10 of us) we tried a ton of what was on the menu. For apps the sticky wings were awesome as usual (also at Ohana's) the crab cake with mango salsa were excellent and a couple had the mixed greens with lime-vinagrette that was very fresh. For dinner we enjoyed the Tuna (does have a very spicy cayanne crust) the shrimp and scallops with sticky rice and mango sauce, the Ono fish (which replaced the Mahi Mahi) it was a little fishy tasting which was exactly what Holly said it would be and the strip which was cooked perfect. The kids had Halibut (huge piece excellent piece of fish) and mac and cheese and the pizza. For dessert we asked for the bread pudding from Ohana's and it was not a problem (this is our favorite part of Ohana's) and another had the macadamian nut tort and the kids had sundaes with all kinds of sprinkles (they thought it was great!)

Hope that helps

Thanks for your review of Kona. You confirmed what I thought as food at Kona. I personally want to eat there b/c the food sounds so yummy. What was the atmosphere like? Did it work for the kids? My kids can't handle it if it is super noisy. What do you think is better for young kids who aren't into over stimulations...Kona or Ohana?
