So on a more depressing note, I found out that my 14 year old cousin (turning 15 on March 13) was sent home from school early last Friday and ordered to stay home under parental supervision for the next 48 hours because she was threatening suicide.

Apparently, high school is much worse now for freshman that it was 10 year ago when I was in 9th grade. Supposedly since she started school in August, her best friend stopped hanging out with her, her other best friend goes to a private school and they don't see each other anymore, and the guy she was dating (who was 18 BTW!!!!) used her for THAT reason and then broke up with her. I tried to defend the guy, saying maybe he realized what he was getting himself into and what the consequences would be if they continued to see each other...but my sister and brother believe that this guy was just a dirt bag. I'm not one to judge without getting the story from the horses' mouth, but either way, it's pretty messed up. I called my aunt and asked if my cousin could come with me and Lumar to Disney, you know to take her mind off of everything, but my aunt said that because of all of this, she hasn't been doing well in her classes and so she doesn't want to take her out of school for 7 days.

If it was MY kid, I would be putting their mental health ahead of their school grades (after all, there is always summer school if necessary, right?), but I did what I could. Lumar even offered to pay for her whole trip, but to no avail. I was hoping that she could come because I really feel that it would help her - especially since her birthday is the following week.... but aside from kidnapping her, I don't really have a choice. Hopefully she'll get better soon.
